From the President…
Hello Friends,
In the last newsletter, I told you that Los Osos is back on the schedule for a new building. Bruce Gibson will be meeting with the
Friends on Thursday, July 23rd, from 2-3 pm at Sea Pines Golf Club in the small meeting room behind the clubhouse. Please
join us to hear more about the process and how we can begin to finally move forward.
Meanwhile, the big news is that our librarian, Chase McMunn, has been promoted to Assistant Director of the County Library
system! A wonderful opportunity for Chase, and we all wish him the very best luck in the new position.
As we wait for a new librarian, we will be assisted by Michele Holland three days a week, and of course our fabulous staff
continues to operate at peak performance! What a wonderful group they are; be sure and thank them at every opportunity.
School is nearly over which means the Summer Reading Program will soon kick into high gear. It is always busy days and
evenings at our community library.
As always, Ann Garfinkel
Liz is Retiring
Join Us to Celebrate!
June 13, 4-6 pm
at the Library
After 15 years with SLO County Libraries, Liz Curren is officially retiring on June 13. Many know Liz from her past work with the Literacy
Council and more recently the Morro Bay National Estuary Program. At the library, she has provided friendly assistance for all patrons and
played a central role in establishing and coordinating the Book Discussion group. Children have enjoyed Liz as many literary characters,
including Big Bird and the Cat in the Hat, and as story-teller. We will all miss Liz's many contributions as library staff, but know she will
continue to join in library and literary events as an active member of the Los Osos community.
It is with sadness that we let you know about the passing of long-time Friend Bill Frye.
Among those who knew him well was Carolyn Mueller who worked with Bill during her time as
Branch Manager of our Library. We asked her if she would share her thoughts with us.
Bill Frye was an extraordinary friend of the Los Osos Library for around 20 years or better. It is awfully hard to say
goodbye to this awesome volunteer who would do any task we threw his way with skill and commitment. We admired
his generous spirit, kind disposition and brilliant mind. He was friendly and gentle to all. Bill and his wife Joanne were
trusted with important tasks and have earned a special place in the hearts of our community. At the library, we loved
this friend, and we will not forget him. We wish him rest and peace.
