April 2015 Bonita Road Construction Update

PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION BEGINS ON
BONITA ROAD IN TIGARD
April 10, 2015
The Lake Oswego Tigard Water Partnership is upgrading and expanding water pipelines for the communities of Lake
Oswego and Tigard. This update describes upcoming pipeline construction activities occuring in your area over the
next few months. For the most up-to-date information, follow @LOTWater on Twitter or sign up to our email list for

BONITA ROAD PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION
Pipeline installation along Bonita Road, between Milton Court and Bangy Road, will occur using two methods: an auger
bore (trenchless method) to place the pipe under the railroad tracks, a stormwater culvert and I-5, and an open-cut trench
method along the road (see map below). Most of this work will be done at night, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through
Thursday. Pipeline construction is expected to last approximately six months, finishing up in early fall 2015.
Crews have started preliminary night work, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, along the pipeline
alignment on Bonita Road, between the railroad tracks and SW 72nd Avenue. Preliminary work includes exploratory
digging to ensure the pipeline route does not conflict with existing utilities and switching water services for a few
businesses along Bonita Road.
During this time, crews may be using a vacuum truck, excavator and other typical construction equipment. Steel plates
will be placed in the road while crews are not actively working in the area. The eastbound lane of Bonita Road will
be closed during work hours. Traffic will be routed onto 74th Avenue and Durham Road. Once preliminary work
is complete, crews will begin installing the water pipeline. Please plan for some temporary delays during this time.

Auger Bore
AUGER BORE UNDER THE RAILROAD TRACKS
Later this month, a work pit will be excavated in the center lane of Bonita Road near 74th Avenue during the day,
from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. This pit will be present 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will be
used by crews to install the pipeline underneath the railroad tracks using an auger bore. There will be no left turn
from 74th Avenue onto Bonita Road during this time (see map below). Traffic can either turn right on Bonita Road
or use Durham Road. The left turn signal will be turned off and traffic control devices will be staged around the pit.
This auger bore work is expected to last about two months.
AUGER BORE UNDER STORMWATER CULVERT & I-5
In addition to the auger bore under the railroad tracks, crews will need to bore under a 96-in. stormwater culvert on
Bonita Road, between 72nd Avenue and Sequoia Parkway, as well as I-5, beginning near Paul Schatz Furniture Store.
This work will occur during the day, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. More information about
these two bores will be announced when it becomes available.
EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS & REPAVING
Neighbors and commuters can expect to see and hear excavators, loaders, pipe, steel plates, gravel and dump trucks
during construction. There may also be an increase in noise, truck traffic and vibration depending on your location
to the construction site.
Equipment will be stored in the right-of-way and along the shoulders of Bonita Road. Crews will also have a temporary
staging area off the road near SW Sequoia Parkway. As crews progress with the pipeline, the road will be temporarily
patched. Final paving will occur after the pipe is installed and tested, likely in early fall.
