Women`s Hockey Scholarships at Loughborough

Women’s Hockey Scholarships at Loughborough
Loughborough University offers a unique environment to develop in sport whilst gaining a prestigious
degree. Loughborough Students Womens Hockey Club offers many competitive opportunities, the
first team play in the Investec Women’s Hockey League Conference North as well as the British
Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Premier League and the Midlands Indoor league.
Each year Loughborough University invests a million pounds in performance sport, and a million
pounds in facilities. Thanks to this investment, Performance Coach James Ross is able to lead a
professional programme of coaching and support. First team squad members receive expert
coaching, access to our world class facilities, heavily discounted Powerbase gym membership,
strength and conditioning training, sports science and sports medicine support.
The first team play in the EHL Conference North at weekends, and play in the BUCS competitions on
Wednesdays. They have at least 2 team training and up to 2 individual training sessions a week, plus
2 structured strength and conditioning gym sessions.
In addition to the substantial support we offer to all members of the first team squad, sports
scholarships offer financial support to help the most talented squad members balance their finances.
Three levels of scholarship are available:
Tier 1 offers between £2,000 and £3,500, plus Powerbase and Club membership (worth around a
further £250). To be considered for this level of support, applicants would have experience with
either the England development or senior team, or a nation of an equivalent standard. We would look
to offer up to £5,000 for exceptional candidates.
Tier 2 offers between £1,000 and £2,000, plus Powerbase and Club membership (worth around a
further £250). To be considered for this level of support, applicants would have England U21
tournament representation or other home nation senior representation, or equivalent standard
experience.
Tier 3 offers between £500 and £1,000, plus Powerbase and Club membership (worth around a
further £250). To be considered for this level of support, applicants would have U18 tournament
representation.
The above criteria are a guide only, and experience at these levels is not a guarantee that an
application will be successful, and naturally we reserve the right to amend the criteria at any time. An
applicants’ attitude and commitment to training and Loughborough Sport is also taken into account,
and all first team squad members would be expected to go through the trials process. Only players
who commit to playing for Loughborough Students in the Investec Women’s Hockey League
Conference North will be considered for sport scholarship support.
Loughborough Students Womens Hockey Club have a further 4 teams who play in local leagues as
well as BUCS competitions. The teams are fluid, and the Coaches discuss players and the possibility
of development through the Club for those with commitment and talent.
