This is an opportunity for Parents/Carers of Primary School aged students to attain an insight into our programs and to find out about all the opportunities that a Lyndhurst education provides. Please note that if you have relatives/neighbours/friends with Grade 4, 5 or 6 students that we conduct tours of our College during the school day. This is a valuable way to see life at Lyndhurst in action and highly recommend this to prospective parents. We are also looking for prospective enrolments in our new ACE program. This is an exciting initiative to enhance the learning opportunities of high achieving students. Of course, our own parents/carers are also very welcome to attend the evening. Compass During this week all families should have received a letter regarding access to ‘Compass’. Through Compass we can provide further opportunities for participation by parents/carers in their child’s education. We will be gradually implementing different stages of Compass over the coming two years. At present staff are using the attendance package and have commenced using an excursion package. Parents have just been provided with a method for their access – please see the letter; and as a starting point parent/student/teacher interviews, on the first Thursday of next term, need to be booked on line through Compass. More information will be provided as further aspects of this innovation are implemented. Principal’s letter continued from Page 1. College Council Annual Meeting The annual meeting of College Council was held last week. At this meeting the annual report to the College community was authorised and a copy will be placed on our College website at http://lyndhurst.vic.edu.au/documents/ early next term. Please consider being part of this important representative committee and if your are interested please make contact with me at the College, or alternatively I can put you in touch with our parent or community members in order to find out more about the role of being a council member. Warren Wills Principal END OF TERM 1 First Term concludes this Friday 27th March for all of our students. Dismissal will be at 2.30pm. We wish all members of our community a safe and enjoyable Easter holiday period. Term 2 will commence on Monday 13th April and we are really looking forward to the continuation of the positive learning culture that our staff and students have built throughout Term 1. WINTER UNIFORM 2015 Given the unpredictable nature of the weather in the first few weeks of Term 2, students may wear either the Summer or Winter uniform, depending on the forecast for the day. However, please be advised that it is expected that all Lyndhurst Secondary College students must wear the Winter uniform as of Monday 4th May. As the season changes and the weather becomes increasingly cooler, we would like to remind students, parents/carers that hoodies may not be worn at school under any circumstances. Any parent/carer seeking an exemption (for any length of time is not automatically granted) to the College uniform and dress code must submit it in writing to the Principal. Any exemption request is at the discretion of the Principal and will be in compliance with obligations under human rights and anti-discrimination legislation. We would also like to take the opportunity to thank our families for their ongoing support with regard to the implementation of the new Uniform and Dress Code Policy and Procedures. We have a strong commitment to promoting a positive image of the school within our local community and it is pleasing to see our students taking greater pride in their appearance, which assists us in our efforts. Uniform & Dress Code Policy and Procedures’ are available at SPORT REPORT SWIMMING CARNIVAL The school’s swimming carnival was at Noble Park this year and we were finally lucky enough to have brilliant weather! The day was a great success with students getting involved with not only the swimming events on the day, but also the waterslide, student teacher races and there were a number of novelty events, including tug of war and races. Congratulations to all Hale members who were able to take out the event on the day slightly over the other houses. All students should be proud of their efforts either inside or outside of the pool, as the day ran very smoothly and everyone was involved in cheering on their fellow team members. It’ll be great to see even more enthusiasm and house spirit for the Cross Country on Thursday 30 th of May, Term 2 and Athletics Carnival on Thursday 23 rd July, Term 3. DISTRICT SWIMMING th On the Thursday 26 March, 12 students represented Lyndhurst Secondary College at the district swimming championships. All students did really well in the tough competition and should be proud of their efforts. Big Congratulations to our winner on the day: Kira-Lee Clare (butterfly) Good luck to Kira-Lee at the SMR Swimming Championships on Thursday 26 th March. INTERSCHOOL SPORTS We have been lucky enough to have many teams compete in the interschool sports in term one this year. All year levels have had the opportunity to compete in volleyball, tennis, cricket or golf against other schools in our region. Our senior volleyball teams put up a good fight and our year eight volleyball boys came third and girls came second overall on the day. Well done year eight volleyball team! Our year seven volleyball team have been having regular training sessions with Ms Prades and Ms Curran and we wish them all the best on competition day. Our senior boys did well in tennis considering two of our players had never played tennis before! Well done boys you represented our school with pride. The intermediate sports teams had a tough day of competition but overall had a great day of participation. In golf our two senior boys Bailey Clapton and Dylan Le Rocca played a great game were able to finish equal first on 76 and second on 79 respectively. Thank you to all the teacher coaches for term one and well done to all students who have participated in interschool sports so far this year. I encourage all students to have a go and play a sport throughout the year. K. ASTHMA ACTION PLANS It is a Government requirement that any child who suffers from Asthma (no matter how mild) has an Asthma Action Plan (AAP) completed and held by the College. AAP’s were given to students earlier this term and many are yet to be returned. Please contact the College if you have queries regarding your child’s AAP or if you believe that it no longer applies to your child. MEDICAL PLANS Several plans for other medical conditions are also outstanding. Please ensure that the plan relevant to your child is returned to the College as soon as possible. ARE YOUR CONTACT &/OR EMERGENCY CONTACT DETAILS UP TO DATE? PLEASE NOTIFY THE COLLEGE OF ANY CHANGES IN WRITING. EARLY LEAVERS PROTOCOL Our office staff endeavour to provide a service that is efficient, personal and friendly. The demands on our office staff can be extraordinary at peak times. For this reason we wish the inform parents of the following protocol: STUDENTS WILL ONLY BE COLLECTED FROM CLASS EARLY IN THE CASE OF AN EMERGENCY If students need to leave school early for any reason, they must bring a note in their Student Planner with the time they are to leave and signed by a parent. They show the note to their teacher to leave class, then come to the General Office to sign out and wait quietly until they are collected by their parents. ABSENCE HOTLINE - 9517 3958 (24 hour line ) The hotline is only available for students in years 7, 8 & 9. Senior students (Years 10, 11 & 12) are to be directed to their team leaders with a note or medical certificate explaining their absence.
