Unfortunately even the best plans can fall over so
we weren’t able to commence painting with the
surety of being completed in time for our wedding
bookings in April. Painting is still a high priority and
will be done asap.
Hi everyone,
What an amazing summer! Just like they used to
be when I think back to my summers in the hay
paddocks. There are still plenty of fantastic days to
be had on the water before winter so make the
most of them.
The building extension proposal is now ready for
presentation. A detailed report will be in your
inbox in the next couple of weeks for your comment and a special meeting date set. I urge you to
get involved and help us set the club up for the
next 20 years.
A lot has been going on at the club since our last
catch up, the joker draw in the bottom bar on
a Thursday night has got to $3,450 with only a
handful of cards left and the interest is really hotting up. As we near the end of the draw it would
not be fair to alter the rules on the number of
tickets per night, so it is still only 50 tickets per
night, but Ken is reviewing the way it will run for
the next card pack.

The fishing committee finally after three attempts managed to get a good day for the ‘Kids off
Couches’ competition where once again the club
was bursting at the seams with happy faces after a
day on the water. The week before, the Reel Girls
ladies competition was run and though the entry
numbers were down, a great day was had by all
and a lucky couple are on their way with Air NZ
for a mystery weekend.
REEL GIRLS FISHING CONTEST
As usual, this was a great event with all the ‘Reel”
girls having a reel blast.
The main prize was an Air NZ Mystery weekend
for two which was donated by AMEDIATE ENGINEERING LIMITED.
The annual sailing regatta pulled entries from
Kerikeri down to Taupo with over 100 boats
entering into a day packed with enthusiasm, and
while all this has been going on the social committee worked tirelessly in the background organising
another Around The World fun night in the bottom bar.
Please make the effort and come on down to the
club and join in, everyone has the same thing in
mind and that is to enjoy the water in the company of friends.
A few changes were made this year with Danny
Black to entertain us – and he proved to be a
great success with lots of people up dancing. Some
‘entertainment only’ tickets were sold as Danny

has a great reputation.
Less ticket sales and no kids meant that there was
a little bit more room to move about.
Some good fish were caught and many more were
thrown back. Most reported the fishing was hard
going with most of the bait being eaten by the
undersized ones…………..never mind, they will
be ready to catch next time.
Just a little gripe – it was a bit disappointing that
more “Reel” fishoes did not support our Contest
bait supplier PROBAIT who have very generously
donated to this contest every year thereby playing
a big part in making it happen.

where we will be in Turkey, this country was
earmarked for April, as it falls in conjunction with
the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Gallipoli.
Whilst we won’t be indulging in Turkish music,
rather a mix of everything ANZAC, Australia and
New Zealand, by DJ Bus, there will of course be
Turkish food and the infamous slushy as well.
Ongoing Around the World journey dates to note
are, Friday May 29th, and Friday June 26th.
July 18th, is the date booked in for the Annual
Commodore’s Ball, always an illustrious event, the
Social Committee are currently working on the
format for this year’s event.
SOCIALLY SPEAKING
The Joker Draw continues to jackpot, and with
meat raffles and then Loyalty Draw once the
raffle tickets are sold, makes it all worthwhile
popping down on a Thursday night. Come down,
enjoy the view, the club has something to offer
every member.
Well, summer has been and gone, and what a
summer it’s been.
The Social Committee have been pleased to bring
to the club, the annual New Year’s Eve party, and
in our Around the World Journey, we have tasted
the liquid and not so liquid delights from Jamaica
and Ireland.

There has been much discussion and a lot of asking for a replacement contest to the old MBBC
Two Day Fishing Contest. This was an annual
fundraising event that (though very successful) was
repeatedly putting the club at risk financially. I
have taken on the task, along with (especially) Saul
Harman to come up with a new concept that was
innovative, sporty, and suited to a wider spectrum
of anglers. This new concept is the "Pimp-myBoat 6kg, 2 Day Fishing Contest". This contest will
run annually from within the walls of the MBBC
Pavilion during ANZAC weekend of each year.
The concept of measure and release will be well
rewarded, and some carefully considered tactics
may come in to play. It will attract anglers from all
skill levels. Sponsors will be rewarded well beyond normal with up to twelve months of brand
exposure through our Contest Specific Web Site

Fish & Dive Report
The "Kids off Couches" fishing contest has, at long
last, just wrapped up with some great catches
and a whole bunch of very happy kids.Various
weather predictions (mostly wrong) since Waitangi Day made it very difficult to decide to run
the contest. Those that went out on Sunday got a
good down pour of rain around 10am - then were
treated with fantastic flat seas for the rest of the
day. Many thanks to all those that supported the
contest by either helping with the organisation, or
by taking a kid or six out on the water.
Results as follows: Boys Longest Snapper: 1st
Ethan 57cm, 2nd Jack 52.5cm, 3rd Devlin 51cm,
4th Ethan 50cm, 5th equal Jamie and Jack 49cm;
Girls Longest Snapper: 1st Sarah 64cm, 2nd Caley

Next on our Fishing Contest Calendar is the
prestigious and hotly contested MBBC Fishing
Champs. This event seeks out the best anglers
from the membership with the top twelve going
forward to wear the emblazoned Club Champs
2015 Shirts (and some brag factor) and to represent the MBBC at the 2016 Cobbald Inter-Club
Shield Challenge. Some great prizes will also be up
for grabs. Details will be posted soon so watch
this space - for now though just put 16 May aside
and start sorting out your crew!!

The prize list is growing nicely (now valued at over
$30,000.00) and includes well known brands like

from Navico Electronics. The first of these exciting contests is set for ANZAC weekend of 2016.
Ticket bookings, however, will be available (and
strictly limited to just 200 Anglers) from soon after
ANZAC weekend this year. Watch your newsletters closely or look for our new facebook page
for updates. Anyone wishing to discuss any aspect
of this contest, either as a sponsor, or to assist in

To finish on a brighter note: Winter fishing is coming up fast. I personally love this time of the year.
The smaller fish disperse, the waters calm off, and
the bigger specimens become my target. Now is
a good time to ensure your boat is well serviced
and your warmer gear is aired. If you have never
fished the winter then why not take the time to
visit the club and talk to someone. There is always
somebody about with lots of great advice willing
to share over a cold one.
It is with some sadness that after nearly six years
(each) both Keith Walker and Shane Swinehart
have asked to stand-down from fishing committee duties for a while. Both Shane and Keith have
been inspirational and highly motivated members
of a very active team. Without their incredible
efforts the fishing section would not be what it is
today - and we do look forward to their return
when time suits better down the track. Many
thanks to you both. To that end we will be looking
for some eager fishoes to help continue to grow
and refine our club activities and events, as well as
feeding our own passions well into the future!

Hi all sailors, another summer sailing season almost
over, and going by our weather over the Easter period we may still see some good sailing days ahead.
Saturday the 28th saw our Annual Open Class Regatta have a record number of boats on the water
covering three courses. What a stirling effort by all
in the club with everyone knowingly getting into
their allocated tasks and making the day a major
success. Special thanks must go to Sean McRae
who spent many hours coordinating and managing the event. The wind could have been stronger,
but at this time of the year our bay normally gives
lighter winds and tests our sailor’s levels.
However, the fine weather made for a successful
event all round – well done all.
For all members of MBBC including community
members, a visit to our Sailing club website is well
worth while.You will see all the results of our regattas along with the sailing and windsurfing events
that our club, groups and individuals have participated in over the past season, along with photos. A
lot of effort goes into maintaining our site and is a

to listen to our guests, by over speaking our speakers. This behaviour is downright rude and will not
be tolerated. Please show proper respect to our
club guests, and their audiences (your fellow club
members).

On Sunday 19th April we will hold our prize giving,
which for some will signal the end of the sailing
season. However, sailing is an all year sport and it is
hoped that we will see some “Sails” on the water
over the winter. I am sure the wind surfers will be
out in force!
For those who have not heard, MSC will host the
Auckland Opti Champs Feb 2016. This is a first
for our club in being successful in getting a major
event. At the same time we will be hosting the
Auckland Starling Champs, so in all it is likely we
will see over 200 yachts on our beach over three
days. Along with visiting club support boats and
families this will be an event that will need the
support of not only our sailing club members, but
MBBC and the wider community.
Sean, who gave our presentation to the NZ Opti
Association at the Opti Nationals in Worser Bay
Boat Club, Wellington Easter weekend, must be
double pleased as his son Cullum came 3rd, along
with Sofia Higgott 22nd in a Green fleet of 50.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank
Steve Tennent who recently resigned from the
committee after many years. Steve was also our
commodore for 4 years and continues to give support. Thank you from all MSC members.
The MSC raffle was drawn on Saturday 28th
