Playgrounds are open to schoolaged children ages five and older. Three city-sponsored playgrounds are staffed by supervisors who are trained to offer fun activities for children. The School District of Marinette will provide FREE breakfast and lunch at all sites throughout the summer. Playgrounds will be open for the season June 8 through August 13. Children are free to come and go as they wish, so parents should plan accordingly. This is not a substitute for daycare. It’s an opportunity for supervised play for school-aged children. Playground hours are Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. A wading pool is available for children ages 7 and under who are accompanied by an adult. The pool will be open Tuesday, June 9 through Friday, August 21. Open swim hours are 1:00-4:30 PM and 6:15-8:15 PM daily. Pool opening requirements include a minimum air temperature of 65 degrees during the day and 70 degrees for evening swimming. If there are less than ten swimmers, wading pool and big pool combined, within 60 minutes of opening time during the day and 30 minutes at night, the pool will be closed and any cash customers’ money refunded. Daily admission to the pool is $2.50 for youth and $4.00 for adults. There is no charge to use the wading pool. Season Passes allow unlimited use of the pool during open swim and adult swim times. They are not valid for swimming lessons. Passes are not transferable, and may be used only by the purchaser. The camp fee of $30.00 covers camp instruction working on basic fundamentals and all-around development, a camp t-shirt, and a lot of fun working with Coach Nick Semenas and the Marine coaches and players! Junior Lifeguarding This program is designed for those children ages 11-14 who are looking to do more in the area of aquatics. This is an introduction to lifeguarding program for children who are interested in becoming a certified lifeguard one day. The class helps students to develop a deeper appreciation of the water and build a stronger foundation of aquatic and leadership skills and knowledge for a future career in lifeguarding. Skill presentation will include first aid, CPR and AED, safety and basic rescues and swimming endurance. This course does not certify students to be lifeguards, but it acts as a stepping stone for those who are not yet old enough to take certifying lifeguarding courses. The class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 AM-noon at the Civic Center Pool from June 16 to July 30. Additional on-deck opportunities will be available to students during the month of August. The cost of participation is $40.00 for Marinette city residents and $60.00 for non-city residents. Lesson Descriptions: Big and Little classes for parents and their children ages six months to three years focus on developing swimming readiness by teaching children and their parents to have fun in the water while practicing water safety. Gearing Up Swimming Class for children ages 3 to 5 focuses on lesson preparedness independent from their parents, learning safe entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, back floating, underwater exploration and more. Tier 1 helps students feel comfortable in the water & to enjoy the water safely. Open only to children ages 5 & up unless approved by the Aquatic Director. Students must be able to submerge their face, jump into the water safely, show comfort on their back, and “reach and pull” with floatation but without direct instructor contact in order to move on to Tier 2. The American Red Cross is the nation’s leader in babysitter training and will prepare you to be the best sitter in your neighborhood. In fact, 8 in 10 surveyed parents said they would pay more for a trained babysitter who is certified by the Red Cross. Start your babysitting business on the right foot and learn how to be a safe, professional and reliable sitter. The fee of $50 includes a digital certificate, valid for 2 years, and learning materials. Classes are scheduled from 8 AM to 4:00 PM, and all participants should bring a bag lunch and dress comfortably. The course is available to boys and girls ages 11 and up. Class fee must be paid at the time of registration at the Civic Center. Class size is limited, so register soon! DUER GYM RENTALS Located at 402 Williams Street, the facility is available for rent on an hourly basis when Recreation programming does not require use of the facility. The gym may be used for athletic and other approved events, and anyone renting the gym must be at least 18 years of age. A $20 key deposit is required in addition to the $21 per hour rental fee. Indoor Walking/Running We can help you stay off of the treadmill and still avoid inclement weather….walk or run indoors! Indoor walking is available at the Civic Center from 7:30 to 9:00 AM Monday through Friday. 10 1/2 laps around the dome equal one mile. There is no charge. Tier 2 Gives students success with fundamental skills. New skills: float/recover, simultaneous & alternate arm/leg actions on front and back, basic self-help & rescue skills. Tier 3 builds on the Level 2 skills by providing additional guided practice. New skills include coordination of front and back crawl, introduction of butterfly, fundamentals of treading water, and the rules of head-first entry. Tier 4 develops confidence in the strokes learned and improves other aquatic skills. New skills include elementary backstroke, breaststroke, and element of sidestroke, building on the butterfly, and working on endurance of front and back crawl. Tier 5 provides further coordination and refinement of strokes. New skills include introduction of flip turns on front and back , increased distances, and refining performance of all strokes. Tier 6 refines the strokes so students can swim them with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. The court rate is $28.00 per hour for adults, and $16.00 per hour, per court for youth-only on the court. Members are welcome to attend board meetings held on the first Thursday of every month at 5:30 PM at the Marinette Civic Center. 9 FREE First Aid & Safety Learning Sessions First Aid Demonstration for Parents is for parents and grandparents, who would like an introduction or basic refresher on first aid knowledge related to children and infants. Each demonstration will consist of approximately a half-hour demonstration and hands-on practice in the classroom area at the Civic Center at 6:00 PM on each of the dates listed. Sessions are guided by American Red Cross trained staff. Preregistration is not required.
