BRASS BAND CAMP A weeklong introduction in brass instrumental performance for students aged 8-18 with at least one year of experience on their preferred instrument (trumpet/cornet, horn, baritone/euphonium, trombone, tuba/bass). August 24-28| 9 am – 4 pm Tuition: $260 + $15 registration fee Ages: 8 and up Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts, located at 6199 Chebucto Road, Halifax, Nova Scotia, is a not for profit organization which offers an accessible and comprehensive program of dance and music instruction accommodating students of all ages and levels of ability. Our students receive a quality education designed to inspire a lifelong interest in the arts, whether for their personal enjoyment or a professional career. Prior brass performing experience is welcomed but not required. The camp will provide both individual and group instruction (sectionals, master classes, and large ensemble), culminating in a public performance at the end of the week. Instruction will be provided by MCPA faculty and guests and will serve as an opportunity to join the youth brass program at the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts. Music SUMMER 2015 SUMMER VOICE INTENSIVE WORKSHOP July 27-31, 2015 9:30am-4:30pm, daily Jennifer Farrell, Nathan Wessel and Lynette Wahlstrom, instructors This workshop is intended as a professional development workshop for singers aged 17-25 years pursuing studies and/ or professional careers in music. Participants will receive one-on-one vocal coaching, and benefit from group master classes as well as information sessions on hot topics, such as anatomy for singers, overcoming performance anxiety, and how to prepare for auditions. Each student will also receive a personalized massage therapy session along with information on how to care for their bodies and maintain wellness throughout their careers in music. The week will conclude with a public recital. No audition required. Course fees: $350 per student, plus $15 registration fee. Participants are responsible for arranging their own room and board. Two summer workshops for singing actors in Grades 4-12 who are serious about developing and refining their auditioning and performance skills. Both weeklong workshops will culminate in a variety show performance which will allow students the opportunity to combine and apply all of the skills that have been nurtured during the workshops. Grades 7-12 9am-4pm July 20-24, 2015 Tuition: $280 + $15 registration Five-Day Program Includes: Learning technique for singing in a popular style, vocal masterclasses, AUGUST 10-14TH, 2015 The NS Summer Suzuki Institute is a camp that provides an intensive musical experience for families with children who currently study violin through the Suzuki Method. In Halifax, our SAA-approved Institute, offers activities for students and their parents for a one-week session. Families enjoy attending this institute together and they participate in a wide range of musical and enrichment activities. Our Institute offerings include masterclasses, group classes, and recitals as well as enrichment courses that include a gaelic song choir, theory, composition, weaving/crafts, highland dance, celtic fiddling and step dance. Parents attend classes with their children. Free lectures and discussion groups for parents, social events such as a "family fun fair picnic", noon hour activities and a big "family Cape Breton square set dance/ceilidh" on the last night. CELLO CAMP Cello camp offers a week of cello fun for beginners who have had a few lessons through the intermediate level. This half-day camp will include group lessons, cello choir, small cello ensembles, music theory and ear training. Find new cello friends as you get comfortable in the bass clef (and even the tenor)! SUMMER CONTEMPORARY VOCAL PROGRAM The MCPA’s Contemporary Vocal Program is perfect for young singers wishing to develop vocal strength, technique and style. This annual program helps singers build performance confidence while finding their own unique voice. NS SUMMER SUZUKI INSTITUTE instruction on topics including style, songwriting, vocal health, microphone technique, stage presence and performance confidence, singing in harmony with others as well as solo performance. Genres covered include but are not limited to pop, jazz, folk, indie rock and R&B. In addition to group vocal instruction from Zoe Leger, singers will also receive three 30 minute private voice lessons from some of the MCPA's accomplished voice faculty members and two Yoga for Singers workshops with a certified Hatha Vinyasa yoga instructor. Ages: 6-14 July 6-10 1 – 4 pm (option of supervision until 4:30 pm) Tuition: $150 + $15 registration fee NB: Students have the option of combining this camp with the Dance Camp running from 9:00am-noon the same week ( July7-11). This combination will make up a full day of instruction (lunchtime supervision included).
