2015 Equine Review
Extreme Cowboy Trail
Rules
- All competitors are expected to compete within their individual capabilities.
– Riders may ride more than one horse, but one horse may not be used by more than
one rider.
– The course will be timed, and each obstacle will be judged. A combined score will
determine final standings.
– If there is a tie at the conclusion of the event that involves the top placings, the
winner is determined by the fastest time.
– It is the responsibility of the contestant to fully understand the rules, obstacles and
the order of the obstacles prior to the beginning of the event.
– Exhibitors will be allowed to walk the course prior to the event. No horses are
allowed on the course during the walk through and no practicing is allowed on the
course prior to or during the event. Obstacles and course rules will be reviewed at
that time.
– Each obstacle will have a 30 second time limit. The time begins when the rider
approaches and begins to negotiate the obstacle. If the time limit elapses, a whistle
will be blown and the rider must move on to the next obstacle. The judge may allow
the rider to continue provided the horse / rider was making substantial forward
progress toward completing the obstacle when the whistle was blown.
– If the rider does not complete an obstacle, points will be given or deducted based on
his/her attempt. The judges shall not give an obstacle score of 0 (zero) if a valid
attempt has been made.
– If a rider skips an obstacle and begins the next obstacle (example: the rider completes
obstacles 1-4 and skips 5 and begins 6) he / she may not go back to the obstacle that
was skipped. If the rider does go back to the skipped obstacle at any time, it will be
considered “off course” and result in a disqualification.
– The rider will receive an obstacle score of 0 (zero) and a 30 second time penalty for
any obstacle that is skipped.
– Should a horse leave the parameter of the course or the rider is not able to catch his /
her horse unassisted and remount within 1 minute, the rider is disqualified.
– Horses may be of any breed.
– Every horse shall be treated with dignity and respect!
– The official may prohibit the use of bits or equipment that he/she may consider
severe. The official may disqualify a contestant for what they deem to be abuse. The
Official's word is final and may not be disputed.
– Riders 18 years of age and under (as of January 1st of the current year) must wear a
C.S.A approved helmet, properly fastened, in competition and on show premises at
all times while mounted.
