MBS Student Association & Global Consulting Group (GCG) Strategy Presentation Challenge (SPC) -‐ Semester One, 2015 Rules & Regulations 1. 2. To uphold the integrity of the competition and the results, all competitors must abide by the strictest standards of professional ethical conduct becoming of an MBS student. Any violation of the following competition rules will result in automatic and immediate disqualification. The case used in the competition will, to the best of the organisers’ knowledge, be unpublished and untested. The case is made available at the Launch Function as one hard copy per participant. Under no circumstances is the case to be reproduced, either electronically or in hard copy, nor shall it be shared with non-‐participants. 3. 4. The sponsoring company, Inclusion Melbourne, will have the rights to any and all presentations, including any information and/or recommendations provided, so as to assist them in the nature of the problem. This competition is for current Graduate students of MBS @ Berkeley only (MBS Master of Management Suite, Master of International Business and Specialist Masters programs). Participants must be enrolled in at least one subject in the current semester to be eligible to compete. If you have registered a team with any undergraduate student or student from other faculty without proper notification and approval, your team will be disqualified with immediate effect. 5. Participants who have worked – or are currently working for – Inclusion Melbourne must declare this to the MBS Student Association at the time of registration and each request will be considered on a case-‐by-‐case basis. Teams who do not provide timely notification will be disqualified with immediate effect. 6. Members of the MBS Student Association and/or GCG who are directly involved in the planning, organisation or execution of the SPC are ineligible to compete. 7. Members of the GCG that have prior knowledge of the case, due to having attended and/or participated in the GCG Induction, are ineligible to compete. 8. At least one participant from each team must be present for the Launch on Monday 16 March 2015, 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm, or the team will be disqualified unless prior notification is provided. 9. Communications: • All important announcements and information will be distributed via the e-‐mail address provided by participants. All participants are responsible for checking their e-‐mail in a timely manner. 10. Competition Structure All teams are randomly allocated into any one of five (5) steams. Each stream will consist of five (5) competing teams. Launch Function th 16 March Preliminary Round th 24 March (One team from each stream to move on to the final round) Final Round th 27 March Stream 1: 5 Teams Compete Stream 2: 5 Teams Compete Stream 3: 5 Teams Compete Stream 4: 5 Teams Compete Stream 5: 5 Teams Compete Team 1 (Winner Stream 1) Team 2 (Winner Stream 2) Team 3 (Winner Stream 3) Team 4 (Winner Stream 4) Team 5 (Winner Stream 5) Winning Team and Two Runners-‐Up v At the end of the preliminary round, the top team from each of the sub-‐groups/streams will be selected for the final round. 11. Team registration does not guarantee admittance to the competition. The number of teams admitted to the competition is subject to change, without notice, at the discretion of the competition committee. Whilst the committee will endeavour to ensure that all streams contain the same number of competing teams, please be aware that this might not be possible if there are late withdrawals. 12. Presentations: • The competition committee can only guarantee IT support for Microsoft PowerPoint, therefore it is strongly recommended that all presentations be formatted in this medium. • The usage of smartphones and/or mobiles during the presentations is strictly prohibited. Attention and respect must be given to all teams who are speaking. • The team can nominate one or more speakers for the presentation. There is no compulsion on all team members presenting. • Participants should identify themselves by their respective team names. o Team names must be consistent with the principle of professionalism detailed in Item 1. Preliminary Round (Tuesday 24 March, 3:15 pm – 5:30 pm) Presentation time -‐ 13 minutes + 5 minutes (Q&A) + 2 minutes (Judges Deliberation) • • • • All presentation slides for the first round should be e-‐mailed to mail@mbssa.org by 5pm on Monday 23 March 2015. Alterations may not be made to the presentations after submission. Teams may not sit in on any other presentations at their assigned venue. Teams should arrive at least 15 minutes before their allocated time slot for presentation. Teams must return to their assigned venue at 5:05 pm for the announcement of results. Final Round (Friday 27 March, 3:30 pm – 7:00 pm) Presentation time -‐ 15 minutes + 5 minutes (Q&A) + 3 minutes (Judges Deliberation) • • Finalists can sit in the presentation venue after they have done their presentations. Finalists should arrive at least 15 minutes before their allocated time slot for presentation. Times will be strictly adhered to. MBS SA representatives will time presentations and teams will be notified when there are “5 minutes” and “1 minute” remaining. 13. Guidelines for participants: • • • • Teams are expected to conduct all necessary research through all publicly available resources. Plagiarism and Collusion will be penalized and the respective team can be disqualified at the discretion of the judging panel. The time and locations of the presentations will be communicated via email. The dress code for all rounds is Business Attire. 14. Panel of Judges & Evaluation: • • • The Judging Panel for the Preliminary Round will consist of academics from the Faculty of Business and Economics, The University of Melbourne and industry professionals from the GCG. The Judging Panel for the Final Round will consist of academics from the Faculty of Business and Economics, The University of Melbourne, representatives from Inclusion Melbourne and industry professionals from the GCG. Judges will evaluate each team based on: o The proposed strategy addresses the key issues of the case; o Depth of research and analysis; o Clarity and logical structure of the presentation; o Practicality and feasibility of recommendations; o Innovation and evidence of a creative and rigorous approach to problems solving; o Effective delivery of the presentation and use of visual aids; o Q&A answers directly address the question and display a sound understanding of the case.
