This salaried part-time contract position gives strategic oversight to the development and implementation of the first
ever Planned Giving program for Mennonite Central Committee Ontario (MCCO). Working closely in partnership with
Mennonite Foundation of Canada (MFC), the Planned Giving Officer will identify, solicit, and steward opportunities for
Planned Giving within the MCC constituency.

Qualifications:
All MCC workers are expected to exhibit a commitment to: a personal Christian faith and discipleship; active

Required

Minimum three years of professional experience in a field focused on customer relations or relationship
development, with preference in fundraising and/or Planned Giving

Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with ability to nurture long-term relationships

Strategically focused, analytical thinker who is innovative and excels at organization – able to effectively
plan, prioritize and implement all aspects of a Planned Giving program

Familiarity with fundraising principles and practices, with knowledge of Planned Giving vehicles

Proven ability and comfort with soliciting major gifts and estates from a wide range of donors

Highly motivated self-starter who can work independently and meet deadlines and targets

Team player, able to collaborate and support colleagues to maximize effectiveness of overall revenue
development goals

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting in front of large groups

Possesses a high level of professionalism, with ability to build trust with donors

Strong knowledge of MCC’s mission and work and the ability to match the cause with donor interest

Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel throughout southwestern Ontario

Willingness to work with sensitivity within a diverse cultural and theological milieu

Police check will be required once hired


Preferred

College, University or professional certificate degree is preferred (CFRE designation is an asset)

Previous experience in Planned Giving an asset

Familiarity with Mennonite and Brethren in Christ constituency in Ontario
Assignment Narrative:
This position is one of 6 staff in the newly expanded Revenue Development department, which is responsible for
raising funds for the work of MCC in Ontario and around the world. MCCO has a loyal but aging donor constituency
who are key candidates for Planned Giving. Although MCCO receives over half a million dollars annually in estate
gifts, there has never been any strategic initiative to cultivate or steward donors in this area. Working closely with the
Mennonite Foundation of Canada, this position will develop and implement a strategy that will set in place a wellrounded Planned Giving program that will become a foundation to the Revenue Development program for years to
come. The Planned Giving Officer is accountable to the Revenue Development Director
The Planned Giving Officer is accountable to the MCCO Revenue Development Director. This is a management
position and thus exempt from provincial overtime legislative requirements.
MCC is a charitable organization that partners with churches and community organizations worldwide to walk with
people who are disadvantaged. MCC supports activities that provide emergency assistance, reduce poverty, and
promote healthy communities, sustainable living and alternatives to violence. As an internationally recognized NGO,
MCC currently serves in 45 countries with 700 partners, 1000 staff and 40,000 volunteers.
Duties:
Leadership and Administration

Plan and implement a comprehensive strategy to develop and market a sustainable Planned Giving
Program at MCCO

Develop annual project plans and budgets for Planned Giving activities, with measurable targets and
metrics

Identify, cultivate and solicit Planned Giving prospects – with both individuals and groups

Facilitate opportunities for group presentations at churches, retirement homes, MCCO (with volunteers
and staff) in partnership with Mennonite Foundation, and also independently

Develop and manage a recognition and stewardship program for planned gifts and find meaningful
approaches to thank and effectively steward legacy donors, including thank you letters, phone calls,
visits, tours and special events

As part of core strategy, develop relationships with relevant professionals to market and support the
program (e.g. lawyers, accountants, money managers, funeral homes, etc.)

Serve as the point of contact for all Planned Giving gifts coming into MCC Ontario

Manage and track donor contacts through Donor Perfect Online database, keeping up to date records
at all times

Maintain accurate and updated documents regarding all Planned Gifts and work with others including
MFC to confirm that we have all required paperwork to acknowledge the gifts

Ensure that active estates are being properly administered by the executor/trustee in a timely,
appropriate, efficient and fiduciary manner

Work closely with other Revenue Development staff to maximize potential of current donors as major
gift or Planned Giving prospects

Provide appropriate training and support in Planned Giving to the Revenue Development team and
volunteers as needed

Alongside MFC, keep abreast of legislation pertaining to charitable giving and Planned Giving to ensure
compliance to relevant laws and regulations regarding estate planning, tax and charitable gifts

Participate in MCCO orientations, provincial meetings, and annual meeting

Participate in a local faith community, being willing to use his/her personal gifts within this community
and model nonviolent peacemaking through respectful interaction with others

Maintain a high level of integrity, reflecting Christian respect and Christ's unconditional love to those
with whom you work, including colleagues, partner agencies, the homeless and marginalized

Answer inquiries about MCC from constituency and general public; communicate MCC's values,
articulating the importance of MCC's criteria for workers, all of whom serve as representatives of the
Mennonite and Brethren in Christ churches which support MCC

Model nonviolent peacemaking through respectful daily interactions with staff and the public
Location Description:
Kitchener-Waterloo is for all intents and purposes one city, with a combined population of approximately 500,000.
Located in the 'golden triangle' in southwestern Ontario, its roots have been technological and agricultural, and both
continue to factor significantly in the local economy. There are a great variety of opportunities available in the areas of
recreation and cultural events. Urban renewal in both downtowns is providing new ways to experience culture and
leisure. K-W is also an educational centre, with two universities and one community college. There is a rich mixture of
cultures, and Mennonites are a strong part of that diversity.
The MCC office is located at 50 Kent Avenue, Suite 203 in Kitchener.
Challenges:
This position will require significant amount of travel time outside of the office within Ontario.
Ability to work non-standard hours occasionally required, including evenings and weekends.
