Hackel Michigan State University Extension For Immediate Release Marinda Ochs (586) 783-8163 Media Contact: ochsmari@anr.msu.edu Date: May 4, 2015 Macomb County MSUE 4-H to host Outdoorama Area 4-H members will soon have the opportunity to explore Michigan’s natural environment through the Macomb County 4-H Outdoorama. 4-H Outdoorama gives youth ages 10 to 19 the opportunity to experience the outdoors in a one-day camp that focuses on environmental and outdoor education. Participants will attend nine sessions throughout the day, ranging from orienteering to shooting sports to shelter building. “4-H is centered on a learn-by-doing approach and Outdoorama is evident of that,” said Marinda Ochs, 4-H program coordinator for Macomb County. “Youth will have hands-on experiences throughout the day, such as identifying wild plants or tying a fishing knot. Experienced 4-H volunteers and staff provide them with guidance and support. This is a volunteer-driven event with 4-H volunteers from multiple counties.” “This event is about providing youth the chance to enjoy time outdoors,” said Joe Whitenight, 4-H volunteer and chair of the Macomb County 4-H Outdoor Education and Recreation Program Committee. “The kids have a fun time while developing a deeper appreciation for the outdoors.” The registration deadline is Wednesday, May 20. The form can be found at http://bit.ly/MCOrama15. 4-H Outdoorama will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 30 at Camp Rotary in Ray Township. The fee to attend is $5, which includes lunch.
