Position Description
Micah House Chapel Street – Program Coordinator
General Description
The primary responsibility of the Program Coordinator will be to oversee the daily operations of Micah
House by maintaining a Christ-centered community outreach for children and youth in this under-served
neighborhood. Micah House offers after-school educational enhancement in a structured, disciplined, and
loving environment. The Program Coordinator will implement the strategic ministries that enable
volunteers from Trinity Church to demonstrate the love of Christ and use their spiritual gifts with this atrisk segment of our community in a way that not only meets needs, but also builds bridges for the gospel.
The Micah House Program Coordinator will report and be accountable to the Executive Director of
Micah House Ministries, abide by Trinity Church’s mission and doctrinal statement, and be a member in
good standing with their local church.
Other Responsibilities
 Responsible for opening and closing Micah House according to the public school
schedules
 Recruit, train and mobilize volunteers from Trinity Church to utilize their gifts and abilities
in creative ways. Maintain an active list of volunteers to effectively support the program
 Maintain a safe and disciplined environment, ensuring that all students follow house rules
and behavioral expectations at all times
 Ensure that the daily program is educational and challenging for students
 Oversee the facility and report any maintenance issues to the Executive Director
 Maintain an organized workplace and ensure the location remains neat and friendly in
appearance
 Oversee the University of Redlands student staff
 Supervise and oversee special events like the annual Back2School event
 Supervise and oversee off-site occasional field trips and activities
 Maintain an active role in representing Micah House to the community: in schools, civic
clubs, volunteer organizations, and the Trinity Church family
 Work with other Micah House staff members to create and maintain an annual budget
 Seek creative funding sources for program needs: this includes developing a database of
funding sources and occasionally presenting Micah House to the community through the
newspapers, service clubs and other organizations
 Provide a written report to the Director for the following items: injuries, parental disputes,
unresolved behavior challenges, suspicion of child abuse or neglect
Skills Required
 Excellent verbal and written communication skills
 Experience working with children, youth and teens in an educational/recreational environment
 Experience training and working with volunteers
 Maturity and the ability to effectively work without direct supervision
 Proficient with Microsoft Office products
Qualifications
Spiritual – Exhibits a growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ and demonstrates a life, lived with
integrity, consistency and stability reflecting the positive image of a Christ-follower
Experience - Has successful experience working with volunteers in cross-cultural outreach ministries and
demonstrates effectiveness in relating cross-culturally to children, youth and adults
Education – Graduation from an accredited college or university with a B.A. or B.S. in a field of study
which relates to this work is desirable
Communication & Coordination
 Meet with the Executive Director weekly to provide updates of all activities
 Create Christ-centered partnerships with staff, parents, teachers and others in the community
 Maintain a cooperative relationship with schools, churches and other outside agencies
 Develop relationships with the Micah House families in order to meet their spiritual needs
 Maintain ongoing communication with Trinity Church and Micah House volunteers through
meetings, publications, website, Sunday morning displays, etc.
 Maintain communication with local media to highlight programs, developments, achievements and
special events
 Support the Literacy Program and other tutorial programs for children
 Monitor the attendance and well being of the staff, students, and volunteers
 Provide input to the Executive Director that enables the development of policies and procedures
for the program as well as help to develop methods of recruiting volunteers
 Provide training for volunteers and identify skills that meet Micah House needs
 Provide opportunities to recognize and appreciate volunteers
 Advise the Executive Director of the need for materials and equipment to accomplish objectives
 Be a learner - Visit similar ministries, attend seminars and conferences which are designed to
enrich the ministry of Micah House.
Reports to: Executive Director of Trinity Community Foundation (aka Micah House)
Part-time position - 28 hr. /wk
