The Avalon Theater will join the Landmark Oriental Theatre, Landmark Downer Theatre, Times Cinema, and Fox-Bay Cinema Grill for the 2015 festival (September 24 - October 8), marking the first time in the Festival’s history that it has operated in five different cinemas. “At Milwaukee Film, our mission is really to celebrate not only film, but also our amazing city, and so we’re thrilled to have another historic Milwaukee theater involved,” says Artistic and Executive Director Jonathan Jackson. “The Bay View community has long been a strong supporter of the Festival and we’re excited to bring films directly into their neighborhood at the gorgeously renovated Avalon.” After being closed for nearly 15 years, the Avalon Theater re-opened in 2014 to reveal the astounding results of a two million-dollar renovation. Originally built in 1929, new owner Lee Barczak (who also owns the Times Cinema and Rosebud Theater) restored the theater to its original form, highlighting the building’s intricate interior and spacious architecture while adding comfort seating and a full-service lounge and bar. The Avalon Atmospheric Theater and Lounge is located at 2473 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. In addition, beginning today, festival passes and ticket 6-packs for the 2015 Milwaukee Film Festival are on sale.
