Mon Valley ICD Special Training Programs
PRE-LEARNER MAINTENANCE TRAINING PROGRAM
Retirees and Maintenance Technician’s are not eligible for this program
Per our 2008 Labor agreement and in an effort to facilitate testing to enter the Mechanical or
Electrical maintenance training program, U.S. Steel and the United Steelworkers have chosen an
online standardized Pre-Learner Maintenance Training Program to provide employees with the
opportunity to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to test at a higher level when entering
into the Maintenance Training Program.
Any student who does not have access to a computer should contact the Career Development Center to make
arrangements to use the Center computers. If a student needs training in computer basics, it can be provided through
Career Development.
The Program will be administered through the local ICD Program located at the Mon Valley Training Hub. Contact the
coordinator for additional details.
STUDENTS ARE ADVISED THAT COURSE COMPLETION DOES NOT GUARANTEE THEM A MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN POSITION. ALL ADDITIONAL
REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME A LEARNER OR MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN MUST STILL BE MET.

This course is a combination of self-study and hands-on training offered through All State
Careers. Those interested in taking this course will meet individually with a representative from
our educational provider. Information on obtaining a Class 'A" CDL permit, locations to get the
required D.O.T. Driver Physical and Drug Screen, and the self-study material will be available at
that time.

SMALL ENGINE REPAIR –BACK TO BASICS
Wednesday * March 4, 2015 – May 13, 2015 * 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM * 10

Starting at the basics you will be guided through the
how's and why's of small gas engines such as chain saw chains and tune-ups of both two
and four cycle engines, with the emphasis on air-cooled overhead valve small engines.
During the hands-on portion, you will be able to bring in your own equipment,
troubleshoot and repair it to your satisfaction. The instructor will oversee and guide you
in your work. Repairs can consist of anything from minor tune-ups to complete
overhauls.

Every day on the news we hear about another company’s data base being hacked
and subjecting their customers to ID theft. This workshop will help you do a Cyber
assessment on your family and look for ways to improve your safety. ID theft is
time consuming and expensive to deal with if you identity has been stolen. Make
your family safe today and find out how to continue this protection in the future.

STICK/MIG/TIG WELDING

Tuesdays & Thursdays April 7, 2015 – May 28, 2015

Students will learn the difference between MIG and TIG welding. Students will get
the opportunity to practice the different concepts. TIG welding also specializes in
fusing pieces of aluminum together. MIG short for metal inert gas , is a welding
process that specializes in covering aluminum and other metals not made of iron. Class size limited to 8.
SIGN LANGUAGE—ADVANCED LEVEL

The course will teach how to repair minor dents and structural damage. Also, it will teach the different types
of paints, primers, and how to use technology for gluing plastics by using the new epoxy glues. Painting and

This class is for the student who wants to learn basic automobile maintenance. It will include demonstrations

familiar with the basics of preventive maintenance, emergency repairs and the operational

•Turn right on Rt. 837 North and continue driving north.
•As you approach the Duquesne-McKeesport bridge, stay to
the right and continue driving under the bridge on Rt. 837
North.
•At the third traffic signal, make a right onto East Grant
Avenue crossing the railroad tracks into the RIDC City Center
of Duquesne (marked by a large blue sign).
•The first intersection is Linden Street. Make a right on
Linden and the first left turn into the HUB parking lot.

•Make left turn on Rt. 837 North and continue driving north.
