Dear Parents and Carers
We are having a madly busy time in school at the
moment – thank you for your speedy responses
to the forms and requests coming your way. This
week we have Henley Youth Festival, Governors’
Day tomorrow, a visit for KS1 from storyteller and
author Adam Guillain, Year Two’s Sharing
Assembly and the ‘Tales from the Chilterns’
concert on Friday – there is no such thing as a
quiet week at the moment!
Healthy Living Challenge
You raised well over £300 towards our
defibrillator box, and we also received a generous
donation from Barbara at After School Club.
Therefore the Millie’s Dream charity are supplying
us with a defibrillator and box as soon as possible
– a great result for school and the wider
community.
16th March 2015
Sports Competitions
The County final of the Year Five/Six Sports Hall
Athletics will be held in Abingdon on April 16th.
Well done to the Year Six boys (Jack Morgan,
Connor Mackenzie and Rhys Primrose) who won
the team event at the County Cross Country at
Chiltern Edge, and to Sophie Stone who won the
Year One individual event.
We have shared lots of success out of school in
Monday assemblies this term – from judo to
gymnastics, dance to drama, we love hearing
about your children’s achievements. It seems the
weekends are as busy as the weeks!
Comic Relief
I was very sorry to miss the pyjama day on
Friday. Thank you for your donations and
purchases of red noses – we raised £418.
Our boat!
The buddies have worked with Mrs Maan to
devise rules for playing on the boat. Thank you to
those who entered the competition over half term.
The winning 100 word story was written by Zack
Hawkes who has named her the ‘Friend-ship’ in
the lovely story below.
Thank you also to the KESA team for running
another successful evening of discos. They also
made a contribution to Comic Relief of 10% of the
profits. Thank you also goes to the organisers of
the Mothers’ Day gifts – I hope all the mummies
of Kidmore End had a relaxing and lovely
Mothering Sunday.
The boat appeared one Monday morning. Nobody knew where it had come from, until a tiny
water sprite popped up and said “This boat has
travelled the seven seas in search of treasure.
One stormy night when the winds were howling
wildly, she overturned and almost gave up. Just
then, some fishes swam speedily up to her and
pushed her upright. They showed her the way to
Treasure Island, but she realised the true
treasure was the fishes’ friendship. She is in your
playground to wish friendship to all who sail in
her. She is the ‘Friend-ship’!”
Times Tables Awards
Lots of times tables success to report this week:
Emelia Allen and Amy Havers have gained their
Silver Awards and Joe Havers, Amy Havers,
Jemima Smith, Charlie James, Corey Davis and
Matthew Dippenaar have achieved their Gold
Awards. Platinum Awards for excellent
knowledge of all tables go to Finlay Harris, James
Watts, Edward Day, Miles Pitts-Williams, Jessica
Dippenaar, Warren Gardner, Tom Spencer and
Joe Havers. Joe and Amy are really on a roll!
The winning flag was designed by Beatrice
Primrose as a variation on the theme of the Lamb
and Flag – the lamb has become a pirate and the
flag is the flag of Reading Sailing Club who kindly
donated the boat to school.
Other outdoor play
Key Stage One will be testing out our collection of
loose parts in their afternoon playtimes over the
next few weeks. We hope they will be inspired to
play creatively with the assorted materials. If you
have any natural loose parts to donate e.g. pine
cones, discs of wood, shells or pebbles, they
would be very gratefully received.
And finally…
Please note the ‘Supporting Spelling at Home’
session at 3.30pm on Wednesday 25th March.
Amanda King, a specialist in Literacy and
Learning, will be delivering the session – she has
worked with us over the past year in our ongoing
focus on spelling, and particularly how we support
children in applying their learning beyond the
spelling test. It will be an interesting and
informative session.
With very best wishes
Linda Hull
