Job Description
The Director of Acting & Theatre Programs develops implements, and manages artistic training
and performance objectives in support of Mosaic’s mission through theatrical training and
productions. This position works with the Artistic Director to ensure that varied performance and
educational opportunities for young artists are in line with Mosaic’s mission and the Mosaic
Model of Youth Development through the Arts. This position reports to the Associate Artistic
Director and provides support to the Associate Artistic Director on curriculum, evaluation,
budgetary, strategic planning and day to day operations of the Programs department.
Primary Responsibilities:








Provides appropriate artistic and educational experiences for young artists in Mosaic
Acting Company.
o Supervises Main Stage acting auditions and selects incoming and returning
members for Main Stage and Second Stage Acting Companies.
o Attends and facilitates all rehearsals for Mosaic Main Stage Acting Company.
o Oversees rehearsal planning and facilitation for all Second Stage Acting
Company rehearsals.
o Coordinates travel for the Main Stage Acting Company tours
o Travels with the Mosaic Main Stage on local performances, regional and national
tours, etc.
o Negotiate contract, manage, and train the Assistant Director of Acting
Responsible for the quality of all theatrical performances given by Mosaic Youth Theatre
of Detroit. Related duties include, but are not limited to:
o Directs and makes casting decisions for Mosaic productions at the discretion of
Artistic Director.
o Assumes the role of Acting Coach or Director for Main stage productions.
o Acts as authority on theatrical elements of production for all Mosaic programs
(e.g. lights, sound, sets and props).
o Negotiate contract, manage and orient designer and technical theatre contractors
for Main Stage productions.
o Hires and manages Production Manager.
o Supports Artistic Director in the selection of all scripts to be performed by Mosaic
Main Stage and Second Stage.
Responsible for the design and implementation of the acting curriculum and the
evaluation of the efficacy of Mosaic’s acting programs.
Participates in contract negotiations and orientation process for all theatre contractors for
Mosaic First and Next Stage programs.
Oversees planning and implementation of Next Stage Actors performances and travel.
Occasionally facilitates workshops on behalf of Mosaic in alignment with the Mosaic
Model of Youth Development through the Arts.
Serves as a visible spokesperson and advocate for Mosaic’s mission and programs in
the community.
Engages and mentors young artists in support of positive youth development


Collaborates with volunteer mentors in support of positive youth development
Other duties as determined and deemed necessary due to job requirements.
