FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
The School Council met last night with the main item of business being the
examination and ratification of the school’s 2015 one line budget. The budget was
ratified after a comprehensive explanation by Karen Batty who is the School Council
Chairperson. We have a very active School Council where P&C, parent and community
representatives are in the majority as should be the case. However, we would
welcome new parent representatives so if you are interested, please contact Karen
Batty at school.
Our school hosted a meeting of the Aussi group last week. This group has
representatives from primary and secondary schools in our region and is concerned
with sustainability. The guest speaker was Angela Rossen. Angela is an artist with
over thirty years professional practice painting and exhibiting in Australia and
overseas. Her main theme is the beauty and fragility of the Ocean which she
communicates through her works in a range of media. She also presents workshops in
schools for students, creating biodiversity paintings as a way of involving children
with the environment and conservation issues in a fun and educational way.
These Environmental Science Art workshops take students out into nature to
observe and record the living things in the environment. During the week long
workshops students make a biodiversity survey based on their field observations and
research which they express as a major artwork (information taken from Angela’s
website which is www.angelarossen.com).
The workshop would cost the school $4000 and we hope to receive support from a
number of groups in the City of Greater Geraldton to fund this project.
Progress is being made in regards to the creation of our own ―Sustainability Hub‖.
Unfortunately the pre-apprenticeship students from Durack Tafe are unable to
assist due to a cutback in the hours they can assign to projects of this type.
However, Geraldton Men’s Shed will have a look at our project this week and if
everything works out, they may be able to assist in the construction of our secure
enclosure.
Mr. Harwood and Mr. Normington, our Physical Education teachers, have agreed to
participate in the Jump Rope For Heart program. This is based on skipping and
students learn to skip (with ropes) and also learn skipping tricks which they can put
together for a performance. Students will be seeking sponsorship with the money
raised going to the Heart Foundation. The Jump Rope For Heart organisation will
support our school through the provision of skipping ropes and conducting workshops
at school for teachers and students.
Finally, I bring to your attention that we will be re-starting our parent
representatives in classrooms program for 2015 and our teachers will be seeking
representatives in the near future.

The P&C AGM will be held in week 8, Monday 23rd March at 7.00pm in the Staffroom. New members are

Open every MONDAY 8.30am - 9.00am in Room 20 (Artroom) or by appointment with Jodie at the Canteen.
All new uniforms will be by Pre-order with a limited supply available at the uniform shop. Our next Pre-order will
occur during 2nd Term.
Second hand uniforms are available from the uniform shop and are acceptable as we phase in the new uniform.
There are a number of brand new uniforms (old style) available at the uniform shop. Prices range from $3.00 to
$5.00 a piece.
Second hand pencils, textas, rulers, gluesticks, crayons, satchels and folders are available at the uniform shop
and canteen.

SCHOOL COUNCIL
Nominations are open for the School Council. The Council meets 1 to 2 times a term. We meet in the staffroom
on Monday nights from 6.30pm to 7.30pm approximately.

VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS AND P&C 2015 REMINDER
Thank you to families who have paid their 2015 Voluntary Contributions and P&C for students. Statements were
sent home via students in Week 2 of Term.
Contributions and P&C are voluntary and are used by the school to provide materials, services and facilities for
the educational program of students. If you are unable to pay the full amount, part payment is always welcome.

2015 Sub-Junior Hockey Season
Nominations are required from students in Years 2—6 who wish to PLAY HOCKEY this season. To assist in the
organisation of teams, could parents wishing their child to participate, please complete a registration form
(available from the school office) and return it to the GHA Clubrooms on Wednesday 25 th March from 3.00
to 4.00pm OR the school office by no later than Tuesday 17th March, 2015.
Children can be involved at various levels, according to their age, skill levels and experience. The season will
commence in Term 2 and Fees will be payable by Saturday 9th May (do not pay fees with the registration
form). The hockey grounds are situated at the east end of Eighth Street, Wonthella.

Hook in2 Hockey teaches children the introductory skills of the game of hockey, while encouragement and
teamwork enhances personal development. H in2 H is suitable for girls and boys aged 4 to 7 years. Two

HOSTING A FRENCH STUDENT (16 JULY - 19 AUGUST 2015)
For the last 9 years a programme has been in place offering the opportunity to young French students aged
16-17 years to discover Australia and its education system. The student will attend a High School.
The purpose of the programme is for the French student to experience living with an Australian family, to see
how an Australian school operates, to improve their English language skills through this full immersion and to
create a strong friendship with their Anglophone peers. The programme is highly successful and both Australians
and French students greatly enjoy the exchange. Many families still keep in touch with each other.
