Color Guard Audition Information 2015 Auditions for the 2015 Marching Mizzou Color Guard will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Fieldhouse inside the Hearnes Center (A map of this location can be found at http://map.missouri.edu?bldg=37256). Check-‐in will begin at 9:30 am and auditions will begin promptly at 10 am at the conclusion of check-‐in. Please contact Brooke Danielsen at mubands@missouri.edu or 573.882.3438 to reserve your spot for auditions. If you are unable to audition on this date, you may submit a video of yourself performing 1) each of the fundamentals outlined in the training videos, and 2) a solo routine. The total video should be 5-‐7 minutes in length. Videos must be submitted by April 11 to Dr. Brad Snow at snowdo@missouri.edu. Marching Mizzou Color Guard is open to all university students by audition only. Individuals that plan on auditioning need to wear comfortable clothes that can allow ease of movement. Please do not wear jeans and also wear comfortable dance or jazz shoes. Tennis Shoes are also acceptable. Flags will be provided. It is also advised that you bring water and sunscreen, as we will be outside for portions of the day. Auditions will be given on flag only. A routine does not need to be prepared for your audition. Everyone will learn an audition routine. All new and returning members are required to audition. The audition process will consist of three parts and is outlined below: Part 1 -‐ Fundamentals It is important that ALL members have a strong base of movement and flag technique. We will test your knowledge of the following fundamentals: • Drop Spin • Carve • Windmill • Double Fast • Three-‐Count Toss • Parallel Toss • Ability to recover from mistakes • Ability to march while spinning The names we use for these moves may be different from the ones your high school guard uses. Don’t worry, we’ll be teaching all potential members how Mizzou does each of these moves before you are tested over them. Training videos of these fundamentals can be found at http://mubands.missouri.edu/bands/m2/index.shtml. Part 2 – Audition Routine – “Every True Son” Marching Mizzou Color Guard is fast-‐paced and sometimes you will be required to learn a new show in one week. At auditions, we will teach prospective members our first fight song routine. There are no tosses in the routine, it mostly consists of slams, drop spins, windmills, and carves. We don’t expect audition candidates to be absolutely perfect; this segment of auditions is designed to evaluate how quickly you can learn routines and how well you keep time with other members of the guard. Part 3 – Attitude Members of Marching Mizzou work hard, but they also have a lot of fun and are passionate about what they do. We are looking for energetic, enthusiastic guard members who are ready to carry on the spirit of Marching Mizzou. All those auditioning will also be judged on the following criteria: • Showmanship • Ability to Perform (SMILE!!) • Attitude while learning
