Letter from the President
In the 1960’s, a small group of tennis lovers optioned a plot of land in the Hollywood
Hills with one of the best views in the world, and turned it into their very own memberowned sanctuary: The Mulholland Tennis Club.
This small but insightful group of women and men saw that there was a void in Los Angeles that desperately needed to be filled, and worked together to create a place where
they could not only play tennis and make memories, but - most importantly - where
everyone who joined could feel welcome. 50 years later and 400 members and families
strong, we along with our dedicated staff strive to maintain that same spirit of inclusiveness, friendship, and hospitality.
We hold true to our founding ideals while understanding that staying ahead of changing
times and economics is vital. Maintaining a friendly home away from home but operating it in a businesslike way is more vital than ever. We face challenges, but have already begun to make inroads as we begin to turn deficits to positive revenue, cut
waste, and rebuild our cash reserves from multi-year lows. As we work with our outstanding General Manager, Chris Rhodes, to restore the economic health of The Mulholland Tennis Club, you will also see changes in the form of more services offered to
our members, and improvements to those we already offer: improved dining, additional
family activities, added tennis activities, a better and more useful website, and the continued goal of beautifying the clubhouse and grounds.
My fellow board members and I are proud to serve the membership of The Mulholland
Tennis Club with honesty, dedication, and the interests of our members put above all
else. We strive to embody the values, ideas and direction MTC must take to build a 21 st
century version of the ideals of our founding members. We all thank you for your trust
and support.
Sincerely,
Paul Urbanek
President of the Board

YOGA & MASSAGE
Suzanne Christine
(818)281-5376
After a professional dance career, touring the United States, Europe and Japan,
Susan searched for a physical activity that promoted healing. After taking her first
yoga class in 1990, Susan was hooked. Not only did she experience the physical
healing she was looking for, but also a blissful renewal of mind, body and spirit.
Susan has trained (and continue to train) with some of Los Angeles’ top yoga teachers, and has been a yoga instructor since 2000, offering both private and group sessions, as well as teaching Tai-Chi. Her classes are mixed levels and she spends as
much time as possible with individual pupils, offering advice on how to make the
poses safer, in order to help heal the body of nagging injuries, or to keep healthy bodies finely tuned.
Susan’s career as a massage therapist flowed naturally alongside her yoga career because both disciplines deal
with, and enhance, the synergy between mind, body and spirit. Since 1992, she has developed a unique blend of
body work, intuitively customizing your massage session to release stress and tension, not just physically, but
emotionally, as well, which will leave you feeling rejuvenated. As a former dancer, massage was an integral part of
her craft. This is also true for athletes, who are looking for ways to keep a competitive edge over their opponents,
and to safeguard their bodies from injuries. Massage is a great way for anyone, no matter their vocation, to release
tension that accrues from the existential demands of daily life.
Yoga and massage have provided Susan with tools that have allowed her to be an energetic player in the dance of
life, which we all are part of. She is happy to pass on her knowledge and experience of these beneficial practices
to all of you!
*Personalized gift certificates are also available for both, and are a great way to pamper those you love!

Calcutta Results
This weekend saw 18 teams sign up for the 2015
Calcutta Tournament. This is a unique event where
teams are handicapped and then Auctioned off to
the highest bidder. Teams sold for as much as
$1050 and the total prize pool was $7695.
The first day of play saw many upsets, with last
years winners bowing out in the first round. At the
end of Saturday’s play, four strong teams emerged
to set up two interesting Semi-Finals. The formidable team of Pearson and Urbanek were set to play
the under rated pairing of Annakin and Mahoney.
While in the other half of the draw saw the experienced doubles pairing of Hirsen and Konvitz were
pitted against the mother-son Deck combination.
In the first Semi final, Pearson and Urbanek denied
Annakin an early Birthday present, winning a
closely contested 52-26. The Deck's had refined
their team strategy after Saturday’s play and implemented it perfectly against Hirsen and Konvitz
proving to be to strong 38-26.
In the Final, the dream run of the Deck's could not
be stopped, though Urbanek and Pearson battled
hard. They were out played in the final 38-46.
Congratulation's Kim and Julian!
Thank you to everyone who participated!
