1.
Rules
1.1. Racing in the Albin Ballad National Championship 2015 (the Championship) will be governed
by:
1.1.1 The Rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing 2013-2016.
1.1.2 Class Rules.
1.1.3 This Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions for the event.
1.1.4 The ISAF Category 5 Special Regulations.
1.2. Owners, skippers and competitors should note that Mylor Yacht Club implement the RYA
Racing Charter and that they will be required to undertake to sail in compliance with the
Charter, which may be found at www.rya.org.uk/racing/charter.
2. Advertising Boats finishing first, second and third after a race shall display yellow, blue and
red pennants at their backstay for the rest of the championship. These pennants will be
provided by the OA.
3. Eligibility and Entry
3.1. Competitors shall be current members of the Albin Ballad Association.
3.2. Eligible boats may enter by completing the Entry Form at Appendix 1 and sending it,
together with required fee, by email to racing@myloryachtclub.org.uk or by post to:

3.3. The entry fee may be paid by BACS transfer (the preferred option) to the MYC bank
account, sort code 40-52-40, account number 00014872. Competitors using this method
of payment should use the following reference: “SURNAME / BLD”, where SURNAME is the
surname of the competitor.
3.4. Entry fees may also be paid by cheque (cheques to be made payable to Mylor YC).
4. Fees
4.1. The entry fee for the championship is £80, except that competitors entering the
championship before 15th May 2015 will pay the discounted entry fee of £70.
4.2. The entry fee does not include berthing or launching costs.
5. Championship Schedule
5.1. Registration will be at Mylor Yacht Club, from 1400 hrs to 1900 hrs, Friday 22nd May 2015.
5.2. Racing will take place as follows:
5.2.1 Saturday 23rd May. 2 races. The warning signal for Race 1 will be at 1025 hrs and
for Race 2 at 1325 hrs.
5.2.2 Sunday 24th May. 2 races. The warning signal for Race 3 will be at 1025 hrs and for
Race 4 at 1325 hrs.
5.2.3 Monday 25th May. 1 race. The first boat will start at approximately 1000 hrs.
5.3. Any change to the schedule of races will be posted on the official notice board by 2030 hrs
on the day before it will take effect.
5.4. A Skipper’s Briefing will take place on Friday 22nd May at 1930 hrs at Mylor Yacht Club.
5.5. The Championship Gala Dinner and Prizegiving will take place on Sunday 24th May at 2000
hrs, at a cost of £22.50 per person; to reserve and pay for places, see Appendix 1.
6. Sailing Instructions Sailing Instructions will be available at www.myloryachtclub.org.uk at
least two weeks before the championship.
7. Course Area
7.1. Racing on Saturday and Sunday will take place in Falmouth Bay (race area A on the image at
Appendix 2) except that, in the event of poor weather, racing may take place in the Carrick
Roads (race area B on the image at Appendix 2).
7.2. The race on Monday will be from the Carrick Roads (race area B) to an area near Dodman
Point.
8. Venue The image at Appendix 2 shows the location of Mylor Yacht Club and Mylor Yacht
Harbour. The small chartlet at Appendix 2 shows more detail concerning points of interest at
Mylor Yacht Harbour.
9. Courses
9.1. Racing on Saturday and Sunday will be on windward-leeward or windward-leeward-triangle
courses.
9.2. The race on Monday will be a pursuit race, first start at approximately 1000 hrs.
10. Scoring System
10.1. The RRS Appendix A Low Point Scoring System will be used.
10.2. Two races are required from the races on Saturday and Sunday to constitute a series.
10.3. When fewer than four races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of
her race scores.
10.4. When four races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race
scores excluding her worst race score.

11.2. Other Trophies
 Engraved glassware will be awarded to the boats placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the overall
series.
 Engraved glassware will be awarded for each individual race to the highest placed boat not
already winning an individual race prize.
 Concours d'elegance (racing and cruising). The Julian Foye Trophy.
 Yacht travelling furthest from her home port to the Championships. The Noakes &
Habermehl Voyager Trophy.
 Best Endeavour. The Variety Trophy.
 Championship mementoes will be presented to each competing yacht.
12. Mooring and facilities
12.1. Berths for competitors’ boats will be available at Mylor Yacht Harbour. Competitors should
make payment to the yacht harbour staff.
12.2. Bar facilities will be available at Mylor Yacht Club during the championship. Cornish
pasties and baked potatoes will be available at the bar before the Skipper’s Briefing on
Friday 22nd May, when pasties may also be ordered for crew lunches between races on
Saturday 23rd May, but not for Sunday 24th May; to book this food, see Appendix 1.
12.3. Other catering facilities near Mylor Yacht Harbour are available at Café Mylor (beneath the
Yacht Club) and Castaways (opposite the hoist at the end of the jetty): see the detailed plan
at Appendix 2.
12.4. Chandlery, fuel, water, repair and cranage facilities are available at Mylor Yacht Harbour.
13. Haul out restrictions Boats shall not be hauled out during the championship except with and
according to the terms of prior written permission of the race committee.
14. Diving equipment and plastic pools Underwater breathing apparatus and plastic pools or their
equivalent shall not be used around boats between the preparatory signal of the first race and
the end of the championship.
15. Radio communication Except in an emergency, a boat shall not make radio transmissions
when racing, nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also
applies to mobile telephones.
16. Data Protection Act 1998 By entering the Albin Ballad UK Open National Championship 2015,
skippers or owners consent to their name, the name of their boat and their racing results, but
no other personal information, being posted in the results section of the Mylor Yacht Club and
Albin Ballad Association websites and in any press reports submitted by Mylor Yacht Club or the
Albin Ballad Association.
17. Risk Statement
Rule 4 of the Racing Rules of Sailing states: “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to
participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone.”
Sailing is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore inherently involves an element of
risk. By taking part in the championship, each competitor agrees and acknowledges that:
a) They are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport and accept
responsibility for the exposure of themselves, their crew and their boat whilst taking
part in the event.
b) They are responsible for the safety of themselves, their crew their boat and their
other property whether afloat or ashore.
c) They accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by their
own actions or omissions.
d) Their boat is in good order, equipped to sail in the event and they are fit to
participate.

The provision by Mylor YC of a race management team, patrol boats and other
officials and volunteers does not relieve them of their own responsibilities.
The provision of patrol boat cover is limited to such assistance, particularly in extreme
weather conditions, as can be practically provided in the circumstances.
For the offshore races, they are responsible for ensuring that their boat is equipped
and seaworthy so as to be able to face extremes of weather; that there is a crew
sufficient in number, experience and fitness to withstand such weather; and that the
safety equipment is properly maintained, stowed and in date, and is familiar to the
crew.
18. Insurance Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third party liability insurance with
a minimum cover of £2,000,000 per event, or the equivalent.

Waiver. The organising authority or its members will not accept any liability for material damage, personal injury
or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during or after the event.

I declare that I hold a valid and current boat insurance which covers me for third party indemnity and racing for not
less than two million pounds (£2,000,000) and that I will continue to do so whilst engaged in the Albin Ballad UK
Open National Championship 2015.
I agree to be bound by the Racing Rules of Sailing and all other rules that govern the Albin Ballad UK Open National
Championship 2015.
I confirm that I have read the Notice of Race for the Albin Ballad UK Open National Championship 2015 and accept
