Louis Clift NaSTA Technical Officer Manifesto Behind every great presenter hides a team of talented crew members working tirelessly to ensure that the show hits the air. I joined SXTV during my first year at University and have been hooked ever since. Through working in both student and professional media crews I have been able to work in all areas of the broadcast chain from the old school dirty composite right through to the bleeding edge of broadcast technology with a publication on UHD live streaming at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC 2014). I’m a full time PhD student at Essex and as hard as I try to move away from TV to focus on my research area it just seems to keep pulling me back in. I’ve been asked to stand and tried to resist, the allure of student television is just too good! So if I were you reading this I’d be wondering why vote for Louis as Technical Officer? Well that’s a good shout and it comes down to the fact that I have seen so much great content and skills that I would love the chance to help others out there to try new and exciting ways of broadcasting. I’m a Software Engineer with a passion for TV and would encourage anyone, regardless of study to give it a go! (It should come with a warning that the live events are highly addictive and a little hairy at times). NaSTA offers some fantastic opportunities to all stations large and small to get in on the live scene through projects such as Freshers’ TV. I would like to offer my experiences in broadcasting to help NaSTA to continue the high quality work of student television. I’ve seen how powerful the forums are and just how much knowledge is out there amongst the stations. I feel that NaSTA is on the right path and that as Technical Officer I can provide the support and expertise to progress further. So in short my main aims would be to: ■ Provide assistance and advice to stations wishing to try / expand live broadcasting. ■ Support the on-going technical communities including the technical forum and the wiki pages. ■ Utilise my industry contacts and suppliers to help stations with acquiring kit. ■ Work with the exec to reshape the NaSTA web presence, making access to content and information more streamlined.
