The National Tailoring
Academy is about both
the heritage of
tailoring in Ireland and
the future of tailoring
skills and tailoring
education in Ireland.
The National Tailoring
Academy is spread across
three floors in a newly
renovated building in the heart
of Dublin city centre close to
local amenities, shopping and
transport
Our main sewing floor is
designed around best
practice industry standards,
allowing students to learn
garment construction in a
professional environment.
Following an insatiable
demand from graduates for
work placements, a feasibility
study was comissioned and the
result is a one year post graduate Diploma in Bespoke Fashion Tailoring.
Large work spaces and low
student numbers allow
students to work
comfortably with maximum
one-on-one guidance from our
tailors
Modern tailoring is a fusion of
traditional hand skills and
modern machinery so Master
Tailors deliver the education
while there has also been
substantial investment in state
of the art modern
machinery. Our workrooms are
designed to facilitate learning in
both ready-to-wear and
bespoke tailoring skills.
We use top of the range
sewing and pressing
equipment to allow students to
learn about, and produce clothing to the higest standard finish.
Our diploma also includes a
business module preparing
students for working in the
garment industry.
A sixty thousand euro
investment in machinery and
equipment allows students to learn in
a professional environment and gain
skills to enhance their career
prospects.
Alongside technical skills, our students learn traditional handsewing
techniques, advanced pattern cutting and business skills through our
year long accredited CPD/ Postgraduate Diploma in menswear or
womenswear.
The National Tailoring Academy at Louis Copeland runs both short and
long courses accredited by the Dublin Institute of Technology
German trained
womenswear Master
Tailor Andrea Boyle
works with full time
students and teaches
our advanced cutting
courses.
She has worked
cutting in the Irish
luxury fashion industry
for over 25 years.
Annmarie Flood,
former CEO of one of
Ireland’s largest retail
chains, and Liz Quin,
designer and former
co-owner of Quin and
Donnelly, a successful
fashion brand for over
30 years, lecture on our
fashion business
fundamentals course.
Head master tailor
Sandor Enyedi was
the first tailor to pass
through the difficult Hungarian master
exams in over 15 years.
His 35 years of industry
knowledge in bespoke
and ready to wear
garment production is
being passed to a new
generation of students.
The Arthur Ryan Retail
Centre at the Dublin
Institute of Technology
partner the National
Tailoring Academy.
Tailoring skills such as
producing up to five
different styles of hand
tailored buttonholes
are passed on to
students who could
never learn these skills
anywhere else.
A day spent in this
pursuit alone is one of
of most popular short
courses.
Our students also learn
from a series of guest
tailors and lecturers. Irish
trained Master Tailor
Ronnie Johnson works
with part time students
and Kathryn Sargent of
Savile Row is joining us
as external assessor in
2014/15.
Our full and part time
Diplomas are fully
accredited along with
a number of evening
courses.

CPD Diploma International Trip
As part of our Ready to Wear/ Industry Module, students
visit top end international manufacturing facilites. This
offers students the opportunity to learn how to work
with manufacturers and the roles available within large
organisations.
In 2015 we visited Milan to see the headquarters,
factories and showrooms of Canali. The students also had
a day to conduct market research in the top luxury stores
in Italy.
Our 2014 trip took our postgraduates all around Hungary
visiting manufacturing facilities for top level womenswear
design hourses along with the factories of Berwin and
Berwin who manufacture high end menswear suiting for
multiple companies.
Hear what others have to say about us...
“On our factory visits to Hungary we got to see
how different the tailoring manufacturing industry
is to what we learned during our Bespoke Fashion
Tailoring course. From this course I also was selected
to compete in the final of the International Fashion
Student competition in Wuhan, China. And even now
Alex de Paula representing the Tailoring Academy
is competing for the title in Wuhan. Without the
knowledge the Tailoring Academy has given me I
would never have been offered an internship and
from that a job with Berwin & Berwin, one of Europe’s
largest Tailoring manufacturers.” - Alison McEvoy,
CPD Diploma Graduate
“Fantastic week learning so much from a master! Recommend to anyone who
wants to improve their tricks of the trade!” Robyn Fitzsimons, Designer (short
course participant)
“The quality of the work was a
very high standard, they cover a
great deal in tailoring from cutting
patterns to making hand made
buttonholes, I think this course is an
excellent grounding for a career in
tailoring” - Kathryn Sargent, Master
Tailor
“I got a lot out of it, as you probably can see and I know it’s going to help me bring other
ideas to life! Thanks a mill” Anne Marie Downey, Short Course Participant
“Claire and I really
enjoyed the ironworks
course in December
and are wondering if
you have another one
planned.” Linda Emery
