“Divine Mercy Sunday is not a new feast established
to celebrate St. Faustina's revelations...it recovers an
ancient liturgical tradition, reflected in a teaching
attributed to St. Augustine about the Easter Octave,
which he called "the days of mercy and pardon," and the
Octave Day itself "the compendium of the days of
mercy." Liturgically the Easter Octave has always been
centered on the theme of Divine Mercy and forgiveness.
Divine Mercy Sunday, therefore, point us to the merciful
love of God that lies behind the whole Paschal Mystery
— the whole mystery of the death, burial and
resurrection of Christ — made present for us in the
Eucharist.”

New Format for Offering the Sacred Host
The love and care with which the
Most Holy Eucharist is handled
helps to bring together the faithful
so we can truly know “It is the
Lord.” (John 21:7).
In that spirit, starting April 11,
Father
Joe
and
one
other
Communion minister will be presenting the Sacred
Host at the end of the center aisle. Father will choose
his side at Communion time. If you prefer receiving
from Father, please position yourself on his side when
you leave the pew. Likewise, accommodate anyone
coming from the opposite pew.
If Communion is brought to you, we will come to
you after the congregation.

Father Joe’s Week:
Thanks to all who did so much for Holy Week. Holy
Thursday was beautiful—I washed more feet than I
ever have at that ceremony. The procession and
music was wonderful, as were our servers. We
enjoyed the presence of Newman and our Hispanic
Community for this bilingual service. We had a Night
Prayer service at 10 pm and then locked the church…
Each morning we had a service from the Breviary—
well attended all. Thanks for coming out early to
bless the Lord on Thursday, Friday and Saturday…I
did two services on Friday, one at Newman at noon
and then here at 3 pm. The service at 3 pm was very
powerful, simple, yet full of God’s presence. Thanks
to those who helped, especially Deacon Chris Fisher
and Bob Connors who took care of the procession
with the cross for their limping pastor…Saturday’s
Easter Vigil was lovely. We celebrated the Easter
Sacraments with three members of the Newman
Community, and Makayla Frederick from our own
parish. Congratulations and welcome to full
initiation…Our music was lovely throughout. We had
a varied program, and all our musical groups were so
well-prepared. Thanks for the many hours of hard
work; you are a blessing to us…Easter Sunday went
smoothly. Clearly we needed to add the extra Mass as
we had two full congregations that morning. Didn’t
the church look lovely! Cindy Graves and her crew
did a wonderful job. Having the Flowers envelope
enables Cindy to order the flowers she wants rather
than have to make do with whatever shows up, and it
worked very well…After the 1 pm Mass I went to the
Parish Center where the Hispanic Community had a
dish to pass supper. The place was jammed and the
food was wonderful. Thanks for a great Easter
Dinner. I went home and went to bed early…My knee
continued to hurt, but I went to an orthopedic
practice Monday and they diagnosed it was arthritis.
They gave me a cortisone shot, and I began to feel
the difference in a few hours. By Wednesday I was
100%, genuflecting and no pain…Monday evening I
went to Stanley Mackun’s wake, and did final
preparations for his funeral. Stanley’s funeral was
Tuesday morning, and there was a good turnout of
parishioners, especially daily Mass people.
Parishioners were readers, pall bearers, as well as
our standard funeral ministries. I was so proud that
we had folks there to say goodbye to Stanley, who
loved our parish so much. After the burial at Mt.
Olivet we had a lunch at the Parish Center…Tuesday
evening our Liturgy Committee met and reviewed
Holy Week…Wednesday I went to the Pastoral
Center in the afternoon for a leadership group, then
went to Sacred Heart Cathedral for the celebration of
the Sacrament of Confirmation. We had three adults
confirmed: Malia Frederick, Tyler Frederick, and
Erika Specksgoor. Congratulations to all. We hope to
have a picture next week…God bless and have a good
week!

God’s Call to Nativity
Our Pastoral Council has been holding a few focus
groups: among young people and young families this Sunday
after mass, and at daily mass to gauge some in-depth
responses to the questions. We are also surveying some
former parishioners in the next few weeks, in time to winnow
down a few core values by our next meeting in April. Please
continue to pray for our Council as they help us discern God’s
call to us.

The Apparitions of the Divine Mercy, Poland
By Michael K. Jones
Helena Kowalska was born in the village of
Glogowiec west of Lodz, Poland on August 25,
1905.
As early as the age of seven Helena heard a voice
in her soul calling her to a more perfect way of
life. By age 15 she had made known to her
parents her desire to enter into the convent.
On August 1, 1925, she applied for the second
time to the Congregation of The Sister’s of Our
Lady of Mercy. This time she was accepted. She was nearly 20 at
this time.
After completion of her postulancy period she received her
veil, and on April 30, 1926 she received her habit and her name
in religion. From now on Helena would bear the name of Sister
Mary Faustina.
Sister Faustina began to have a number of religious
experiences far from what one might consider the norm. These
visions lasted throughout her entire life. From trials of spiritual
darkness, to the manifestations of Christ, she was seemingly
caught in a battle of good and evil, her soul the arena.
Having mentioned these unusual occurrences to her
spiritual advisors, ( Rev. M. Sopocko and Fr. J. Andrasz, S.J.)
Sister was instructed to keep a diary of these events. Sister also
notes in the diary that it was the, "express command of the Lord
Jesus, that this diary be written."
On April 30, 1928, Sister Mary Faustina made her first
profession of temporary vows, which would be renewed each
year for 5 years when she would make her perpetual vows. Her
apparitions continued.
February 22, 1931 Sister Faustina had a vision of the Lord
which is today for the betterment of the world. Sister writes the
following words as spoken to her, by Jesus. (note: Jesus's words
are written in red.)
(Diary I (18) 47:Paint an image according to the pattern you
see, with the signature: Jesus I Trust In You. I desire that this
image be venerated, first in your chapel, and throughout the
whole world.
48:I promise that the soul that will venerate this image will
not perish. I also promise victory over enemies already here on
earth, especially at the hour of death. I Myself will defend it as
My own glory.
Getting permission to have this image painted took some
time. Meanwhile in May 1933, Sister makes her perpetual vows.
The painted image known as, The Image of Divine Mercy, was
executed by artist E. Kazimierowski under the guidance of Sister
Faustina. The painting was completed in June 1934, even
though Sister was not quite pleased with the outcome of the
artist’s work.
On September 13, 1935 sister received another revelation
that would go hand in hand with the image, known as the Divine
Mercy. The revelation came in the form of a prayer that should
by said in front of the Image.
Suffering from different illness, including asthma and
tuberculosis Sister’s health began to deteriorate. On April 21,
1938 her superiors decide to send her to the hospital in Pradnik.
On August 24, 1938 Sister Faustina writes her last letter to
Mother General begging pardon for all the faults of her whole
life. Finally she ends with the words: "Till we meet in Heaven."
With nothing else for the hospital to do in regard to
improving her condition, Sister Faustina is taken home. On
October 5, 1938 Father Andrasz, S.J. arrives and Sister Faustina
makes her last confession. At 9:00 p.m. Chaplain Rev. T.
Czaputa, together with the sisters pray by her bedside. Sister
Faustina conscious to the end, prays with them. At 10:45 Sister
Mary Faustina after a long suffering, passes away.

profundidad las respuestas que den a las preguntas. Estos
