Bowman and 13 of his teammates spent the evening at The Fairmont San Jose trading uniforms for aprons to help serve 150 guests a three-course meal. The athletes were there to support NaVorro Bowmans’ 4th & Goal Foundation and its mission to build a safe place for children in the Bay Area to grow and play. Guests were served appetizers and wine by 49ers Kenneth Acker, Antoine Bethea, Quinton Dial, Bruce Ellington, Kendall Gaskins, Tony Jerod-Eddie, Marcus Martin, Kyle Nelson, Quinton Patton, Mike Purcell, Torrey Smith, Michael Wilhoite and Ian Williams. Even 49ers coaches Jim Tomsula and Eric Mangenee and Bill the mascot came out to support the cause. Celebrity servers were happy to sign footballs, pose for pictures and test their serving skills. “We are brothers, “ said Bowman. “I knew they would want to come out to support this cause because they know its important to me.” It was a lively evening emceed by Kiss FM’s Christie James and Pacific Coast Auctioneer’s Brian Bauhmor. After Bowman announced he would match donations up to $50,000, the entire room was lit in a frenzy of bidder cards. This was the first event hosted by NaVorro Bowman’s 4th & Goal Foundation. Bowman established the foundation in 2014 with a mission to build students at Title 1 schools safe playgrounds. The event, Celebrity Steak-Out, raised $130,000 through sponsorships, ticket sales, donations and a live and silent auction. “We’re excited for the future,” said Executive Director of the 4th & Goal Foundation, Jeff Ginn. “Bo’s got a real heart for this and we’re already ahead of schedule to get in our first NaVorro’s Play Zone.” Plans to install NaVorros First Play Zone are tentatively scheduled for summer 2016.
