Neal Avenue United Methodist Church Messenger During this Easter season we have studied the Resurrection Response of the disciples and the early church. This is the very birth of the church of which we continue to this day. All that we do as Christians is a response to the resurrection and the power of Jesus. Just like those first disciples we may approach our faith May 2015 Mission Statement L.O.V.E. G.O.D. Lead Others to spiritual Victory; to Encourage, to Give of Ourselves and Demonstrate the love of Jesus and our world timidly and fearfully at times. Yet just like those first disciples God doesn't abandon us. Jesus died and they went into hiding, afraid for their very lives! So what changed that allowed them to proclaim Jesus resurrected? "When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability." (Acts 2:1-4, NRSV) They were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit! The power of the Spirit within them was and is greater than the power of the world around us. They received and were open to the leading of the Spirit. I encourage you to look, listen, and feel the leading of the Holy Spirit in your own life. Pray- Study Scripture-Worship - Be His Hands and Feet - Praise Him Boldly proclaim the Good News! Share His story! Know that His power within you can overcome anything in this world. I pray that God pours out His Holy Spirit on each of you in a mighty way!
