Clark County led all but the final 200 meters. CCC Female Athlete of The Year Tannesa Edwards of Macon ran down the Lady Indian anchor runner for the 4x4 gold medal. The team winning the most gold medals does not necessarily win a track and field meet team championship. The Lady Indians came from seven points behind late in the meet, edging Macon by ½ point, winning their first ever Clarence Cannon Conference girl’s track and field championship. Highland won four gold medals and three silver medals. The Cougars finished seventh in both the boy’s and girl’s final standings. Clark County won three gold and six conference silver medals. Clark County sixth year varsity track and field coach Nicole Harper gave a proud and emotionally charged interview to the Kahoka Media after the May 4, 2015 CCC track and field championships. “I wouldn’t trade this team for anything,” Nicole Harper said. “This is the best season we have had since I have been the varsity coach.” Nicole Harper coached the Indian Middle School track teams for 18 years. “They just come to practice and to every meet just ready to do their job,” Nicole Harper said. “They play their part. They help our team get to where we are today.” “Anna Ross finished first in the long and triple jump. Renae Buschling won the two-mile. Lots of kids came in and did their jobs like I asked them to do” Nicole Harper said. Clark County finished with 113 girl’s team points. Macon was second in the final conference standings with 112.50 points. Centralia was third with 99 girl’s team points. Monroe City placed fourth with 96 points. Palmyra was fifth in the final girl’s conference standings with 79 points. Brookfield was sixth with 65 points. Highland was seventh with 62 girl’s points. The same group won the boy’s 4x200m relay in a school record 1:33.55 seconds. “My goal was to peak in early May and continue through the MSHSAA series,” Highland track and field coach Michael Allgood said. “I feel like we reached that goal tonight.” “We have been chasing school records all year. They broke the boy’s 4x200m relay school record at Warsaw on Thursday and again tonight,” Michael Allgood said. “Monroe City beat us three times this year. I told the boys that I felt like we could be a better team if we pulled it all together and beat them,” Coach Allgood said. “They came out with a businesslike attitude.
