Dear Chamber Members,
The 29th Annual Joe Kiefer Golf Tournament is just around the corner – Friday, April 10th at the beautiful Lake
Jovita Golf and Country Club. Cliff Martin our Golf Chair, and his hardworking committee have been busy
planning for the event – bigger and better than ever!
The goal of our Golf Tournament is to raise funds for the ongoing business development initiatives, tourism
support and membership activities of the Chamber – and to have a lot of fun doing it!!
We need corporate sponsors, “hole” sponsors (only $100) and players to make this happen – and it’s not too
late to participate – please see the enclosed golf form for your use.
A couple of upcoming events you shouldn’t miss –
1) Chamber Business Breakfast on Tuesday April 21st at the Dade City Business Center, Hornbuckle
Room (3rd floor). Grower’s Fertilizer, Brett Sutton & Will Grief, are sponsoring and our speaker is Brett
Culp, “Legends of the Knight” filmmaker from Wesley Chapel. Documentary on the role of Batman in
inspiring people to overcome adversity, will tell his story of the film.
2) Chamber Business Breakfast on Tuesday, May 19th at Bayfront Health Dade City where we will be
recognizing our scholarship recipients. Breakfast sponsored by Heaven Sent Gourmet Coffee, Lititia and
Steven Williams, owners.
Both of these breakfasts will be well attended – please make sure to RSVP to the Chamber office at least the

Our Education Committee, Chaired by Jean Nathe, will be awarding scholarship plaques to deserving Pasco
High students at the breakfast on May 19th.
Recent grand openings, open houses and ribbon cuttings have included the District Office of State
Representative Danny Burgess, Premier Community HealthCare Dental Office, Premium Title, Kingberry
Estate Sales and Premier Health Care "Lacoochee".
Our Business Development Committee, Chaired by Dr. Randy Stovall, has been very active and taken a lead
role in assisting and disseminating information regarding transportation initiatives in our area. The 301
highway project between Zephyrhills and Dade City is well underway, and will include hiking/bicycle trails that
will interlink with existing paths.
The Publix complex on Highway 301 and Clinton is scheduled to be open late fall, and a number of local
business developments are “in the works”.
The Chamber’s 2015 Business Expo is scheduled for Thursday, November 12th from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Dan
Cannon auditorium, Pasco County Fairgrounds. This has become a very popular event and exhibitor spaces
will be available later this year.
Please remember the Chamber Membership is our life blood. Please refer a
member, retain a member and let the staff know about prospective members.

SERVICES TO
HOST RUN, WALK, ROLL 5K IN
WESLEY CHAPEL
Pasco-Hernando State College’s Office
of Disabilities Services will host a Run, Walk,
Roll 5K on Sunday, April 26 at the Porter
Campus at Wiregrass Ranch in Wesley Chapel,
2727 Mansfield Blvd. The race starts at 8 a.m.
with a fun run for children beginning at 8:45
a.m. Community members as well as faculty,
staff, and students are welcome to participate
in the family friendly 5K event. All proceeds will
benefit students seeking disabilities services at
PHSC.
Following the race and fun run, an
award presentation will be held with overall
prizes to be awarded to top three in each
category—male, female and wheelchair
finishers.
Register no later than Monday, April 13
to receive race T-shirt and goody bag.
Registration fee is $25 for the public and $15
for PHSC students; Fun Run event fee is $15.

Saint Leo University Welcomes 10 New Community Partners, Continues Current
Relationship with Local Community College
Saint Leo University has announced professional working agreements with 10 new community
partners in Florida and throughout the United States. It also updated its articulation agreement with
another partner.
“We are pleased to establish and enhance these community partnerships between Saint Leo
University and these organizations,” said Dr. Beth Carter, associate vice president, Division of
Continuing Education, Saint Leo University. “It is important to cultivate new affiliations for the
university as it helps build a stronger sense of belonging, unity, and interdependence for our
students and graduates.”
The 10 new organizations include:
City of Madison
Established in 1838, the City of Madison, FL, is the county government seat and serves more than
3,000 citizens.
It operates eight city departments and has 59 employees. (http://madisonsheriff.org)
City of Ocala
Located in Marion County, FL, the City of Ocala is more than 130 years old and serves more than
57,000 citizens.

Clay County Sheriff’s Office
The Clay County Sheriff's Office’s origins date to the 1800s and boast a rich history of service to the
community.

Columbia County School District
Founded in 1882, the Columbia County School District has an enrollment of nearly 10,000 students

Eggleston
Eggleston, a multi-faceted organization, serves the needs of persons with disabilities. Eggleston has
residential services, day-support programs, seniors programs, and a children’s learning center where
children six weeks old and older can receive care. The group operates 33 programs in 22 locations
and is dedicated to the empowerment of those living with disabilities. The organization has more

Gilcrest County Board of Education
Gilcrest County is a small, rural school district located west of Gainesville, FL. It has an enrollment of
approximately 2,700 students who attend two elementary schools and two combination middle/high

Metropolitan Ministries
Metropolitan Ministries helps prevent homelessness by serving those living on the edge of
homelessness. In the network of services provided by other social service agencies in the
community, Metropolitan Ministries is known for offering a bridge to continuing self-sufficiency,
especially to clients who have exhausted all other kinds of support. In addition to providing services
in downtown Tampa, FL, the organization offers services to Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, and Polk

Ocala Marion County Chamber of Commerce
The Ocala/Marion County Chamber and Economic Partnership (CEP) were formed to create a

An updated articulation agreement was fully executed with Hillsborough Community College (HCC).
Saint Leo University has had a continuing partnership with HCC since 2007and looks forward to a

Father Damian DuQuesnay, O.S.B., Awarded Doctor of Humane Letters
The Order of Saint Benedict of Florida’s
Oldest Living Priest Humbled by Honor
An Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree
from Saint Leo University was awarded to Father
Damian DuQuesnay, O.S.B., in a special ceremony
as part of Sunday Mass, March 8, at Saint Leo
Abbey. He was conferred the honorary degree by
the Board of Trustees of Saint Leo University in a
resolution dated February 7, 2015.
A full church stood and applauded as
Dr. DuQuesnay was hooded by Dr. Arthur F. Kirk,
Jr., president of Saint Leo University. Dr. Kirk lauded Father Damian as a “true man of faith” and
called him “our hero.”
In accepting his honoris causa (Doctor of Humane Letters), Father Damian said he was humbled by
the honor. He told the assembled group that “this is the greatest honor of my life” and that “I guess
this award affirms that I wasn’t a failure.” He thanked everyone in attendance for sharing in his
special day.
Father Damian, who will turn 97 in July, was born in Highgate, Jamaica, in 1918. He holds a BS in
zoology from Benedictine College and received his master’s degree from Catholic University of
America. He was ordained into the priesthood on the Feast of Corpus Christi, June 20, 1946, in the
unfinished Abbey Church. Father Damian was the first Jamaican ever to wear the habit of a
Benedictine.
In addition to serving a three-year missionary service trip to Argentina (1963-66) with another priest
and two brothers from Saint Leo, which he called “one of the greatest adventures of his life,” Father
Damian taught numerous subjects at Saint Leo College including biology, histology, and zoology.
He also served two separate terms as department chair of the science faculty.
He was prefect in the prep school for 10 years where he taught algebra, biology, chemistry, French,
geometry, Latin, and religion. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching students at both the prep school and
the college. When asked what type of teacher he was, he simply said “fair.”
After his retirement from the Saint Leo faculty, he was chaplain to Holy Name Monastery, a
responsibility he held for four decades but eventually relinquished at age 90 due to his limited
mobility.
He was appointed abbey prior in 1957
and also novice master and brother
master. He’s also the
abbey botanist (a work he continues to
the extent his health and strength allow
to this day).
Father Damian occupies the “Bishop’s
Suite” in Saint Leo Hall at the abbey. He
remains faithful in his daily devotionals
and prayers.
Former Major League Baseball Player
Darryl Strawberry
to Speak at Saint Leo University About
Substance Abuse
As part of the University Speaker Series, former Major League
Baseball (MLB) player Darryl Strawberry presented “Recovery
from Substance Abuse” Thursday, March 26, in the
Greenfelder-Denlinger Boardrooms of the Student Community
Center.
Strawberry is a former MLB outfielder who played 17 seasons
with the New York Mets, New York Yankees, Los Angeles
Dodgers, and the San Francisco Giants.
Today, he and his wife, Tracy, devote their lives to helping others, through their ministries and
foundations, including the Darryl Strawberry Foundation, Fight for Autism, Strawberry Ministries, and
many more.
He also serves as the spokesperson for the Darryl Strawberry Recover Center (DSRC) in St. Cloud, FL,
south of Orlando. The DSRC was founded in a partnership between Strawberry and Oglethorpe, Inc.,
a company which has over 15 years of experience in managing successful behavioral health centers
in five states. They provide effective treatment to all individuals who are suffering from
substance abuse, with a center for excellence in addiction treatment and recovery.
“I had my own personal battles with substance abuse in the past. Addiction is a severe interruption to
the natural flow of life. It leaves those who are afflicted, blind to the truth,” said Strawberry.
The event was co-sponsored by John Picciano, a 1969 graduate of Saint Leo College, and chief
executive officer of Oglethorpe, Inc.

Stabilizing School Start Date

In 2007, the Florida Legislature tied public school start dates to Labor Day to prevent school
districts from beginning too early in the calendar year. It was a reaction to some school
districts beginning their school year in July. The legislation they passed stated “beginning
with the 2007-2008 school year, the opening date for schools in the district may not be
earlier than 14 days before Labor Day each year.”
However, with the start date tied to Labor Day, the opening date for schools has shifted each year. Labor Day
is not a fixed date and fluctuates from year to year. In 2015, Labor Day falls on September 7, a week later
than in 2014. While a week may be almost negligible to most families, it has significant impact on students
and teachers. The later start date prevents our district from proctoring fall semester exams prior to winter
break, since the fall semester will end on January 14. It also impedes
regional articulation agreements between school districts and state colleges for dual enrollment purposes
because colleges complete their fall semester prior to winter break.
With these consequences in mind, members of the District School Board of Pasco County and I have
encouraged members of our legislative delegation to stabilize the school start date. Since the 2010-2011
school year, Pasco County Schools has opened classes on the third Monday in August. Rather than pushing
for an earlier start time, we have advocated for a third Monday start, breaking it from the moving target of
Labor Day, and keeping it the same as this year’s beginning of school.
Our solution will end the school start date moving target. It also will provide Pasco’s parents with a reliable
start time and will ensure that fall semester exams are completed before your students go home for the
holidays.

Juvenile Aggression is Topic of Summer Institute Course at Saint Leo, May 5-7
The Department of Public Safety Administration and Criminal Justice Department will present "Juvenile
Aggression" as the topic at its Sixth annual three-day course at University Campus. The course will be held 8
a.m. to 5 p.m., May 5-7 in the Student Community Center at Saint Leo University.

The Leadership Pasco Class of 2015 carries on the tradition of organizing its successful
fundraiser “Taste of Pasco” taking place on Saturday, April 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the
Rotary Events Pavilion at the Concourse Council in Shady Hills (15325 Alric Blvd., FL 34610)
off SR52 just west of the Suncoast Parkway.
This annual event is fun for the whole family. The “Taste of Pasco” offers samples of
the county’s best cuisine from dozens of local restaurants including Dulcet, Grille 54,
Kafe Kokopelli, City Market Bistro and so many more.
Children will enjoy unlimited play in the “Kid Zone” featuring super slides, bounce
houses, laser tag, face painting and many other free activities. Musical entertainment
is provided by The Natural Blend band. Several drawings will be offered throughout
the day including an opportunity to win a five day cruise for two. World Food
Championship finalist, Josee Lanzi, will be on hand for cooking demonstrations
featuring her award winning recipes.
All proceeds from this benefit, 100%, will go to these nonprofit organizations in Pasco

* The Salvation Army Domestic Violence Shelter to renovate the shelter’s donations
collection building and to build an additional storage building for donation storage,
which will assure survivors they have the resources to help improve their lives.

new transitional housing facility that will help homeless families become selfsufficient.
* Student Survival to create a computer lab for after school projects that will assist at
risk youth in the Hudson Area.

The Definition Of Home Inspections

This will be a multiple newsletter segment about home inspections. For the next few months I will be writing
about home inspections, home inspection services, why you should always have a home inspection, a lesson on
mold and radon, consulting, and the true definition of a home inspection. So feel free to email me any questions
about the segment and I hope you enjoy.
A home inspection is a limited, non-invasive examination of the condition of a home, often in connection with
the sale of that home. Home inspections are usually conducted by a home inspector who has the training and
certifications to perform such inspections. The inspector prepares and delivers to the client an electronic report
of findings. The client then uses the knowledge gained to make informed decisions about their pending real
estate purchase. The home inspector describes the condition of the home at the time of inspection but does not
guarantee future condition, efficiency, or life expectancy of systems or components. Certain terms in the report
maybe to monitor or budget for a water heater because it has passed its normal operation span or maybe in its
bonus time of operation.
A home inspector is sometimes confused with a real estate appraiser. A home inspector determines the
condition of a structure, whereas an appraiser determines the value of a property. In the United States, although
not all states or municipalities regulate home inspectors, there are various professional associations for home
inspectors that provide education, training, and networking opportunities. A professional home inspection is an
examination of the current condition of a house. It is not an inspection to verify compliance with appropriate
codes; building inspection is a term often used for building code compliance inspections in the United States. A
similar but more complicated inspection of commercial buildings is a property condition assessment.
In Canada and the United States, a contract to purchase a house may include a contingency that the contract is
not valid until the buyer, through a home inspector or other agents, has had an opportunity to verify the
condition of the property. In many states and provinces, home inspectors are required to be licensed, but in
some states the profession is not regulated. Florida Home Inspectors are required to be licensed with D.P.B.R.
Typical requirements for obtaining a license are the completion of an approved training course and/or a
successful examination by the state's licensing board. Several states and provinces also require inspectors to
periodically obtain continuing education credits in order to renew their licenses.
In 2010 the State of Florida, required all home inspectors to be licensed as Home Inspector's. Prior to this date,
if you were a licensed General Contractor you could perform this entity. To obtain this type of license, you have
to have 120 class room hours and perform live inspections during training. Florida will reciprocate a license
from another state, as long as they have the same requirements.
In many provinces and states, the practical standards for home inspectors are those enacted by professional
associations, such as, worldwide, the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI); in
the United States, the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI), and the National Association of Home
Inspectors (NAHI); and, in Canada, the Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors (CAHPI) and
the Professional Home & Property Inspectors of Canada.
In closing I want to share that one service that is always overlooked and that is;
“Away From Home Inspections”.
This type of inspection is when you maybe going on vacation, leaving expectantly for family or business
matters or maybe a part time resident, (Snow Bird). A home inspector can provide this service at a very

Jeanie Germain and Sharon Sumner, Owners of Premium Title, Inc., celebrated 15 years of
being in business together by moving into newly renovated offices and hosting an Open
House/Ribbon Cutting with the Greater Dade City Chamber of Commerce.

father,Stanley Burnside, former Clerk of Court for Pasco County, and Jeanie's first employer,
TedWilliams, former Pasco County Property Appraiser. Sharon and Jeanie credit Burnside,

Donor Spotlight
This month, we have a very special donor spotlight. Many of you may know
that our administration building is named the Amy Jo Sumner building, but not
everyone may know why. Recently, we had a special visit from a Mrs. Elsie
Sumner Vining, mother of Amy Jo. She stopped by the office to visit this
portrait of Amy.
During her visit, she shared hers and Amy's story. Mrs. Sumner Vining was one of the original domestic
violence advocates in this community, often allowing women fleeing domestic violence to stay in her own
home. These survivors had an impact on Amy, who felt strongly that there had to be a solution to this
problem of domestic violence. In college, Amy was studying social work so she could help others in her
community when her life was tragically cut short by a drunk driver. The Sumner family donated this building
to Sunrise in her name so Amy's legacy could be continued, and they have provided additional support over
the years, including a gift during this recent visit. We are eternally grateful for their support.

Dade City Youth Council visited Tallahassee for the 2015 Florida League of Cities
Legislative Action Days held March 17-18, 2015. City officials from across the
state gathered to discuss the latest issues and developments affecting municipalities
and how they are addressed in Tallahassee during the current legislative session.
These issues are all part of the Florida League of Cities 2015 Legislative agenda.
This year’s priorities include reforming police and firefighter pension plans,
addressing the taxation of communications services, ensuring local authorities
retain the power to regulate municipal water infrastructure systems,
reauthorization and improvements of the Enterprise Zone Program, establishing
minimum standards for sober home facilities, and preserving local control of
transportation planning. The events began on Tuesday, March 17 with an opening
luncheon and legislative briefing followed by meetings with lawmakers at the Capitol. Nearly 200 city
officials, including more than 50 Mayors, participated in Florida League of Cities Legislative Action Days.
The Dade City Youth Council had the pleasure of visiting with Representative Danny Burgess, District 38, who
took time to talk one on one with the council about important issues facing the youth in our East Pasco
Communities and the importance of getting involved in the community. Representative Burgess’ discussion with
the teens was thoughtful, engaging and most appreciated. The council members left his office energized and
ready to take on many challenges. In addition to visiting with Rep Burgess, the council visited Senator
Simpson’s office watching the Senator in action during session. Senator Simpson acknowledged the YC
council’s presence in the Chambers. Commissioner of Agriculture, Adam Putnam was also in session that day.
Timing is everything!
In addition to the spending time at the Capitol Building, the YC visited the Supreme Court, Governor’s
Mansion, toured Florida’s Old Capitol building and engaged in the Mayor’s Roundtable focusing on youth
initiatives. The Live Oak Youth Advisory Council joined Dade City on Day 2 in Tallahassee allowing the
groups to discuss issues that affect the youth in their respective communities. Taylynn Williamson, past
chairperson of the Youth Council said, “I loved everything we did. It was spectacular, especially all the tours
and meeting Senators and Representatives.”
Accolades to Sharon Berrian, Associate Director, Membership Development from the FLC for arranging our
visits with our legislators and introducing the council to Tallahassee and the excitement the city and lawmakers have to
offer! It is vital that we continue to educate and
prepare our youth for tomorrow. If you are interested in

Money Talks—Mine Says “Goodbye.”
Does it seem like you are always robbing Peter to pay Paul? Feel like you can agree with Billy Hill, there’s
too much month at the end of the money? You’re not alone and there IS something you can do to change the
situation you’re in.
First, you need to discover where all your money is going. Is it going to pay bills and buy groceries or is it
going to support local restaurants and hobbies? A quick look in your checkbook will show you where you are
spending the majority of your hard earned cash.
Second, you need to be brutally honest with yourself about what you can and can’t live without. While you do
need to have gas in your tank and bread on your table, that weekly visit to the restaurant or hobby shop of your
choice can likely become a special treat.
Third, begin making the necessary changes that will help you financially. If you find your checkbook
reflecting your love for restaurant food, determine that you will eat at home more and visit your favorite food
shop less. (It will make you feel healthier too!) If your checkbook reflects money spent for hobbies,
determine to find less expensive ways to support your hobby—repurpose things into what you need instead of
always buying new parts. If your checkbook reflects all your money going to the grocery store but your
refrigerator is still nearly empty of food, determine to change your purchasing habits. Buy in bulk, dividing
and storing the excess, comparison shop, buy when items you actually use are on sale, clip coupons on items
you will actually use. There are many creative ways to be frugal when needed.
These three steps will help you identify if there is a leak in your paycheck and how to slow the outflow. They
will not turn your finances around instantly but, gradually, after consistent spending changes, you will be able
to change the words to Billy Hill’s song and say there is just enough month at the end of the money.

MOTORCYCLE POKER RUN
On Sunday, April 12th, big hearted bikers will hit the
roads throughout the Tampa Bay area to raise money for
local children’s charities. The bikers in this venture, will
help raise money as they participate in the 11th Annual
Credit Union Cruise for Kids Motorcycle Poker Run,
presented by the Tampa Chapter of Credit Unions.
Registration begins at 10:00 am at the first stop, Brandon
Harley. Bikers will rev up their motorcycles at 10:15 am
that morning, and continue on to Uncle Mike’s Grill in
Plant City and Cahill’s Motorsports in Zephyrhills before
finishing the ride at the Quail Hollow Country Club in
Wesley Chapel. There, riders will enjoy a post-cruise
celebration featuring live music by Southern Train, 50/50
drawing, bike contest, biker club trophy, basket raffles,
and other giveaways. Attendees will also have the
opportunity to purchase a ticket for the 11th Annual

Clocks have been moved ahead, which means longer daylight hours and the weather is gearing up
to provide the higher temperatures known to draw people from all over the world to our great state.
Spring is near and it’s a clear signal that pool season has arrived.
Parents and caregivers, it is imperative you take all the safety measures possible to protect children
from the dangers that lurk in and around the pool or any body of water for that matter. It’s time to
get an early jump on reviewing – and improving, if needed – water safety habits. Florida is among
the top states in the nation in relation to drowning deaths for children under 5 years old. About
1,000 children drown each year in the United States. Between 2011 and 2013, 200 children under
the age of 5 died as a result of accidental drowning in Florida. Of those, two were from Pasco County. In all, 83 Pasco County
residents – children and adults – have died from drowning from 2004-2013.
Florida Statute Chapter 515, the Residential Pool Safety Act, requires only one of four specified safety barriers for all swimming
pools built after 2002. As a result, many backyard pools are readily – and dangerously – accessible to young children.
Florida Safe Pools is a water safety campaign established by Florida Suncoast Safe Kids Coalition led by All Children’s Hospital.
Since most young children gain access to the pool when least expected, Florida Safe Pools promotes the use of multiple “layers of
protection,” which include barriers and alarms, to help parents and guardians. For more information, please visit their website at

The 1st layer of protection starts with you:
Pool safety starts with the caregiver. Persistent supervision will help keep your little ones from accessing the pool area.
Limit distractions to yourself so you remain a constant vigil on children.
The 2nd layer starts inside the home:
Door alarms should be on all exterior doors leading to a pool area
Access to exterior doors should be limited to adults
Childproof door locks should be in place
Have a clear view of the pool from inside the house
The 3rd layer starts outside the home:
The backyard should be fenced
A safety fence should surround the pool
Self-closing gates should be included on the pool fence
Alarms should be placed on gates
Keep furniture away from the fence, since little ones love to climb!
Hot tubs should have a locking cover
The 4th layer begins in the pool area:
Keep toys & floating objects out of the pool, since these can entice children
Remove trip hazards away from the pool’s edge
Keep water levels 3-4 inches from the top
Wave alarms can be placed in the pool
Pool covers can be used when pool is not in use

Exercises For A Healthy Heart
As the saying goes, "better late than never!"
It's never too late to begin an exercise regimen. Exercising is one of the most important things you can
do to keep your mind, body, and heart healthy!
Did you know your heart is a muscle? You can make it even stronger and healthier by living an
active life. Even just taking a short walk for 30 minutes a day can make a big difference. Not sure how
to get started? We've got a few tips to help you get going:
Balance exercises build your leg muscles, which can help prevent falls. Try balancing on one foot
for 10 seconds at a time on each side. This will help improve your balance and lower body strength.
Balance exercises can also help you stay independent by helping you avoid the disabilities that could
result from falling.
Strength exercises increase your metabolism and build older adult muscles. Wrist curls are a great
place to start! Grab two weights of your choice - start with a lower weight (5 pounds). Grab both
weights and bring them up so that your forearms are resting against your thighs with the palms of
your hands facing up. Your wrists should be hanging over the edge of your thighs.
Start out by curling your wrist upwards and exhaling. You can do this exercise sitting or standing!
Aerobic exercises increase your heart rate and increase blood flow to your muscles and back to
your lungs.
This maximizes the amount of oxygen in your blood. Try doing a few jumping jacks and get your
blood flowing!
All of these exercises will help get your blood flowing, which is great for your heart! Interested in

Municipal Elections in Three Cities
Municipal elections in three of six municipalities within Pasco County will be held on April 14, 2015. The
cities of Port Richey, San Antonio, and Zephyrhills will have elections for voters residing within those city
limits only. Voters who reside in Precinct 23 are eligible to vote in the Port Richey election, voters who reside
in Precinct 10 are eligible to vote in the San Antonio election, and voters who reside in Precinct 6 are eligible
to vote in the Zephyrhills election. All three cities will be electing representatives to their city council.
Municipal elections are funded by the individual cities with my office serving as facilitator. City candidates
work through city halls to file qualifying paperwork and establish their candidacy. City Clerks serve as their
liaison to the Division of Elections, and when applicable, assist the city's council in coordinating efforts to
bring referenda and amendments to the ballot. These elections may be small, but are no less important and are
likely to impact the day-to-day living of city residents more than any other elections. I encourage anyone
residing within these municipalities to participate.

KAREN KOSER:
I have been employed by the City since December 2005. I assist the Community
Development Director as Development Review Tech, and I’m CRA (Community
Redevelopment Area) Director. The most rewarding part of my job is processing CRA
Grants for Downtown merchants and building owners. In my free time, my husband Dave
and I enjoy sailing the Gulf on our sailboat and camping in our RV. And I’m short and
sweet!!

Originally from the Jacksonville area, have lived in the Tampa Area for 25 yrs. As City Storm water
technician I work in the Public Works Department maintaining records and performing inspections
for DEP storm water compliance and reporting. Duties include coordinating concern calls (sounds
better than complaints) with the various departments including Garbage, potholes, Sewer backups,
water leaks, dead trees, dead animals, oil fracking, rouge gators and wild bees. I am contact person
for Park and Building Rentals, new water and sewer service connections. Perform Administrative
functions in the public works department as well as duties as IT technician for city staff. Outside
interests include long walks on the beach, deep conversations... naw, not really. I have been studying
Shotokan Karate for 11 years, recently testing for second degree black belt.

On Saturday, April 18, 2015, for one
day only, an Operation Green Light
initiative will be implemented statewide
to allow individuals to pay in full unpaid
traffic tickets and court fines and fees
without charging the collection surcharge.
In Pasco County the surcharge is 25% but
state statute allows up to 40%, which is in
place in some jurisdictions. The Pasco
County Clerk & Comptroller’s Office
will be open for customers to transact
traffic ticket payments in person or by
phone from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

privileges. Driving with a suspended
license is the #1 crime in Florida, and the
number of individuals driving with
suspended licenses grows annually. In
Pasco, there are more than 40,000 cases
in collection or eligible to be sent to
collections, exceeding more than $10
million in court assessments. The Pasco

Generous Jurors Support Local Nonprofits
In 2014, 290 jurors graciously donated a total of $4,890 to local nonprofits through the Voluntary Jury Service
Compensation Donation Program. The Clerk & Comptroller's Office started the program on May 5, 2014, to allow
jurors to voluntarily donate their jury service fees to one of three Pasco County designated charities: Salvation Army
Domestic Violence Program of West Pasco, Pasco County Guardian ad Litem, or Sunrise of Pasco, Inc. The Office
commends the generosity of the citizens who participated. Below is an update on how each organization enhanced
services for Pasco residents with the support of Pasco County jurors and private donations.

Increased the representation of children by 13 percent.
Trained 318 new child advocates.
Created a Normalcy Fund to provide financial support for children in the dependency system and participate in normal
childhood activities and help bond with their Guardian ad Litem volunteers.

Financially assisted participants who are ill and in need of prescriptions.
Provided relocation assistance in cases when it was determined that it was not safe for participants to stay locally.
Served food for those residing in the 40-bed emergency shelter.

Salvation Army Domestic Violence Program of West Pasco (Salvation Army)




Created safe refuge for 196 adults and 156 children who experienced the crime of domestic violence.
Provided 8,506 shelter nights.

will culminate with a brief Good Friday service.

This run/walk is around our school’s property to include the elementary school and part of Centennial Road.
All proceeds will be going towards our schools fundraising goals to support our programs and activities.
