Friends,
I wanted to take a moment to share something I am passionate
about: the ALA.
The American Leadership Academy is a unique collegiate
leadership academy that focuses on mentoring young men to
help ensure a better future for the generations to follow. In
essence, it’s sharing key aspects, lessons, and strategies that we
wish we would have known when we were 19 years old.
The ALA, founded by Jerry Nelson more than a decade ago,
came about as his sons and their visiting friends approached
Jerry and asked about his success in life and business. It was
clear to him that these college men needed much more than
what the university offered; they needed the wisdom, values,
and practical guidance of people who had achieved real success
in a variety of fields. As the demand grew, Jerry started inviting
his peers and colleagues so they could share their wisdom and
experiences as well.
That was back in 1997…and, since then, the ALA has grown!
The ALA annually hosts more than 500 select college men
(and dozens of speakers) for five week-long programs; we’ve
HACIENDA LOS AMIGOS | CABO SAN LUCAS, LOS CABOS, MÉXICO | 5
had more than 7,000 student graduates! Our speaker roster
is impressive and growing. Past speakers have included a U.S.
Senator, the Chairman/CEO of Caterpillar, the inventor of
Lipitor, the Chairman of the Mayo Clinic, Olympic athletes,
a fitness celebrity, coaches of high school and college sports,
an expert on etiquette, as well as many military and business
professionals with diverse international and domestic backgrounds.
The programs are casual, conversational, passionate, and focused
on actionable details of success.
It would be my pleasure to elaborate on the great work our
team is performing and tell you more about the programs, as
well as the local philanthropic assistance we are providing within
the Los Cabos community.
Enjoy your stay in Los Cabos and thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Scott Noble

Welcome to Los Cabos
HACIENDA LOS AMIGOS | CABO SAN LUCAS, LOS CABOS, MÉXICO | 11
W
elcome to Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, México. This
one-of-a-kind travel destination—located just a two-hour flight
south of Los Angeles, where the Sea of Cortés meets the Pacific
Ocean—offers something for everyone.
The area known as Los Cabos is, in fact, made up of Cabo San
Lucas, San José del Cabo, and the 20-mile Tourist Corridor that
connects them. Many also include the East Cape region and its
destinations like Cabo Pulmo when discussing Los Cabos.
Incredible year-round weather, vibrant sea life, and a landscape
that includes lush estuaries, desert-like terrain, and iconic beaches
come together here at the southernmost tip of the Baja Peninsula
to allow for endless experiences: big game sportfishing, worldclass golfing, stand-up paddleboarding, art walks, snorkeling,
kayaking, horseback riding, and more.
Los Cabos beaches were made to be explored. Yoga enthusiasts
can salute the sun from Médano Beach. People of all ages can
make their way to Lover’s Beach and the iconic arch at Land’s
End via stand-up paddle, kayak, glass-bottom boat, or waverunner.
And, still others can explore the rich underwater sea life at spots
like Cabo Pulmo, Santa María, and Chileno Bay.
Just as the northern part of the Baja Peninsula has worked in
recent years to develop its reputation as a robust wine region,
Los Cabos has turned its attention to nurturing a growing
12 | HACIENDA LOS AMIGOS | CABO SAN LUCAS, LOS CABOS, MÉXICO
restaurant scene. This is, without a doubt, one of the nation’s
best destinations for food lovers. Fresh, organic, locally sourced
ingredients are showcased in menus that range from traditional
Mexican to Italian, Japanese, and even Argentine. And, seafood—
caught fresh daily in the Sea of Cortés and Pacific Ocean—has
never had a better presentation than what is happening at Los
Cabos restaurants. Annual events like the Sabor a Cabo and
Cheese & Wine festivals are putting even more of a focus on
the area’s culinary appeal.
Los Cabos has also begun to show off its artistic side with
art walks at the Cabo San Lucas Marina every Saturday; that’s
in addition to the Thursday-night art walks held in historic
downtown San José del Cabo every Thursday from autumn
through early summer. Nearby Todos Santos—a pueblo mágico
and celebrated artists colony—also holds an annual studio tour.
These events display not only Los Cabos’ growing art scene but
also México’s rich culture and history.
Of course, Cabo San Lucas is also known for its vibrant nightlife.
Restaurants and beach clubs dot the city’s shoreline and Cabo’s main
streets are lined with a diverse offering of hot spots, with everything
from handcrafted martinis to karaoke and risqué contests.
As you will see as you flip through the pages of this book, there
are incredible experiences to be had in Los Cabos. It’s just up to
you to choose your own adventure.

Safety Information
It’s true: Violence has erupted in some par ts of México, as the
government works to fight drug smuggling and other criminal
activity. But while media outlets may be quick to paint with broad
strokes, it’s impor tant to remember that México is a large country
and many areas, including Los Cabos, have gone largely unaffected.
In fact, there has been no mention of Los Cabos in any of the United
State’s Depar tment of State’s travel warnings. More and more people
are also coming to the region each day and enjoying it—safely.
The municipal, state, and federal governments are working closely
together to ensure the safety of locals and visitors. Effor ts include the
creation of a special Tourist Police.Visitors will often see them patrolling
downtown, the marina, and other highly trafficked areas. These bilingual
officers are available to offer assistance should anything come up.

In a letter, the state’s governor wrote, ‘It is impor tant to note that
the drug-related violence, which has been heavily repor ted by the
media, occurs primarily in isolated areas of México… Los Cabos
is physically isolated from these areas on the mainland by the
approximately 1000-mile-long Baja Peninsula as well as the Sea
of Cor tés… You can be assured that security is my top priority.’

Los Cabos Beaches
HACIENDA LOS AMIGOS | CABO SAN LUCAS, LOS CABOS, MÉXICO | 23
B
ecause of its location at the southernmost tip of the Baja
Peninsula, the Los Cabos area is nearly surrounded by water.
Its beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world. These
attract not only hundreds of thousands of people each year,
but also incredible sea life like whales, sea turtles, sea lions, and
more. There are too many beaches to list, but here we’ll highlight
some of the more popular. Keep in mind that Baja California Sur
is proud to have some of the cleanest beaches in the country;
please help us keep them that way.
Me´dano Beach: The
most swimmable shoreline in Cabo San
Lucas, Médano Beach is also its most popular. Come here to take
advantage of water sports like stand-up paddle or kayaking… or
just to enjoy a good time at spots like Mango Deck.
Lover’s Beach: While
Médano is Cabo San Lucas’s most
popular beach, Lover’s Beach is its most iconic. This is the
shoreline you see in the shadows of the arch at Land’s End.
It’s also an excellent spot to visit if you’re interested in diving
or snorkeling. Lover’s Beach is accessible only by water. Hop
aboard a water taxi or you can rent a kayak or waverunner
from Médano Beach.
Divorce Beach: You can walk from the Sea of Cortés to the
Pacific Ocean in two minutes. That’s just about how long it
takes to work your way across the sand from Lover’s Beach
to Divorce Beach, which though connected have dramatically
24 | HACIENDA LOS AMIGOS | CABO SAN LUCAS, LOS CABOS, MÉXICO
different personalities. While the waters that surround Lover’s
Beach invite you to swim and explore, the Pacific’s unpredictable
waves make swimming at Divorce Beach too dangerous.
Santa Mari´a: According
to legend, this secluded, horseshoe-
shaped beach—located around km 12 of the Tourist Corridor—
was once a favorite hideout of Spanish galleons. Now, it is home
to colorful fish, sea turtles, and all manner of sea life.
Chileno Bay:
Locals favor Chileno Bay, which is regularly
ranked as one of the cleanest in México. There are plenty
of amenities: showers, bathrooms, shade palapas, and access
for the disabled. Plus, the calm waters make for excellent
snorkeling conditions. Look for signs around km 14 in the
Tourist Corridor.
Cerritos Beach: From Cabo San Lucas, drive nor th toward
Todos Santos for about 40 minutes, and you’ll make
your way to the surf-friendly Cerritos Beach. A favorite
of surfers, Cerritos also attracts families. The beach has
kayak and snorkeling equipment to rent, waters often
calm enough for even small children to swim safely, and
ways to explore the beach on horseback or ATV.
Our Beach: The beach located on our property is beautiful but
requires some caution. The current can be quite dangerous at
certain times of the year.
