Noralta Lodge has an exciting opportunity for an experienced First Cook with a strong background in the Hospitality business. The First Cook will be responsible for leading, coordinating, supervising and ensuring proper planning of all activities within the kitchen in a timely manner while ensuring quality & presentation is met at all times. Performance Responsibilities Organize and conduct weekly Health & Safety meetings with all team members of the kitchen; Meet weekly to discuss activities in the kitchen and upcoming goals; Supervise cooks and other kitchen team members in the preparation, cooking and presentation of food; Ensure quality, presentation and timing is met at all times from all areas of the kitchen; Order food and kitchen supplies based on weekly occupancies and inventories; Verify orders are received in proper quantities etc. while keeping coolers & dry storage areas organized; Maintain and create menus to ensure a healthy, appealing variety for guests on a weekly basis; Inspect the quality of raw and cooked foods products; Ensure all equipment and work surfaces are maintained by all team members with proper cleanliness and sanitization standards at all times; Assist with team member development and training of new team members; Oversee and assist when necessary with the unloading and storing of groceries; Attend to guest complaints in a quick & professional manner while keeping other guests best interests in mind; Act as an ambassador for Noralta Lodge in all dealings with the public and team members; To be familiar with and carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance with Health & Safety policies approved by Noralta Lodge along with Occupational Health & Safety regulations. Personal Attributes and Qualifications: Post-secondary certificate or diploma in a cooking program is an asset; Red Seal certification required; Minimum 5 years’ experience of cooking for high quantities of people; Strong supervisory skills including training and coaching new team members; Food Safe certification required before starting the position; Valid First Aid/CPR/WHMIS certification; Excellent Organizational and Time Management skills; Excellent Communication (written & verbal) and Interpersonal Skills; Self-motivation, confidence, discretion, and good judgment; Excellent comprehension and command of the English language (written & verbal); Ability to maintain positive atmosphere amongst the team & to work cooperatively through personal behavior, work contribution and sharing of expertise and knowledge; Keen interest in cooking, creating tasteful meals in a timely manner with astute sense of smell and taste; Ability lifting loads of up to 50 pounds; Welcoming and professional attitude when working in all areas and around guests; Ability to prioritize and multi-task; Good physical stamina; Good Listener, display patience and understanding; Reliable team player; and, Demonstrate professional skills under stressful situations.
