Heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil in a large (12 inch) saute pan over medium heat. Add the bread cubes and stir to coat with the oil. Cook over medium to medium-high heat for 5 minutes, stirring often, until the cubes are evenly browned. Meanwhile, combine the tomatoes, garlic, sugar, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. When the bread cubes are done, add the tomato mixture and continue to cook, stirring often, for 5 minutes. Off the heat, stir in the basil. Pour the tomato mixture into a shallow (6 to 8 cup) baking dish. Sprinkle evenly with the Parmesan cheese and drizzle with 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until the top is browned and the tomatoes are bubbly. Project Update • Beacon Square Villas – At the May 26 planning commission meeting, conditional approval was granted for a 12 unit condominium project located on 8 Mile Road, between Meijer’s and Meadowbrook Country Club. The project is part of the Beacon Square PUD. In addition to the two freestanding office buildings and a memory care facility, the project includes six attached and six detached villa units. Independence Day Parade will be held on Saturday, July 4th with step-off at 10:00am sharp. The parade will start at Northville Downs to North on Griswold to West on Main to South on Rogers to East on Cady to South on Wing to East on Fairbrook and finish at Northville Downs. City Hall will be closed in observance of Independence Day on Friday, July 3rd. • Former Scott Prison site - The Township has selected a joint venture between REDICO and Pinnacle Homes for the redevelopment of the former Scott Correctional facility on the northwest corner of 5 Mile & Beck Roads. The approximately 53 acre site will be transformed into an exciting new mixed use project that will include retail, a hotel, loft residential, townhomes and detached condominiums. The retail component is described as an “open-aired market district” that offers lifestyle experiences in fashion, dining, boutique goods and entertainment. Various types of residential units will appeal to mixed audiences. From a design perspective, the project will serve as a gateway to the township, an anchor to the Michigan Industrial Technology Corridor and will be integrated with the adjacent park to create synergy with the surrounding community. Household Hazardous Waste Wayne County Department of Environment will host a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event on June 20th from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Henry Ford Community College. (248) 349-0203 In the past three years, the Northville Preview Event, which is an exhibit of 30 pre-war rare and vintage cars, brought close to 3,000 people into the Downtown, just for our event. This year, the DDA will be hosting the Preview Event on Saturday, July 25th from noon-4:00pm. We are expecting an even larger crowd this year, based on the events the Concours d’Elegance of America has scheduled. The Preview Event features: • Concours d’Elegance of America caliber car exhibit • Live music in Town Square from noon-4pm • A Special Exhibition celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Ford Thunderbird We are seeking exhibitor sponsors for 60 beautiful cars which will be on display (click here for a form). The cost to be an exhibitor sponsor is $50. In exchange, your business logo will be included on the individual automobile bio board as the exclusive sponsor for that automobile. The car owners take the bio boards to every event where they exhibit their cars. Not only would your sponsorship receive exposure at the Northville event, but at all of the exhibits which the car owner attends! Examples of the cars which will be exhibiting include: a 1926 Willys-Knight, a 1941 Cadillac, a 1932 Ford V-8 Roadster, a 1937 Cord and a 1931 Pierce-Arrow.
