Easter Holidays
It’s been another busy and successful term. Enjoy
the break with your children and ensure they get a
good rest, as the summer promises to be packed
with fantastic and exciting projects. We look
forward to seeing you back at school at 9.00am on
Monday 13th April.
Good News 1 – Ofsted Review
We recently had an Ofsted Review and the inspectors
judged our school to be outstanding in all categories
except for Early Years which is good. They described
pupil behaviour and school leadership as
exceptional. You can read the report in full on our
website
http://northwoldschool.com/wpcontent/uploads/2015/03/Northwold-Report.pdf
Good News 2 – Academy
We are pleased to say that our legal team and the
local authority legal team have finally reached
agreement on the leases for the school and the
school keeper’s house and we will transfer to
academy status from 1st April 2015. The school will
still be Northwold Primary School but we will be
part of Amaya Trust rather than Hackney Learning
Trust. It is a wonderful opportunity for our school
to develop as a lead school and work with a wider
range of partners.

Missing Laptop - FOUND
The laptop belonging to Ms Sams, which was stolen
on Friday 13th March, has been handed in at
Clapton Police Station. It was handed in by a
person in a hooded jacket. Unfortunately police
were unable to identify the individual from CCTV
images. Nonetheless Ms Sams is incredibly relieved

to have the laptop back safely in her hands. Ms
Kriel and the Police would like to thank the children
of Northwold for their help in trying to catch the
culprit, using their forensic science skills.
Easter Bonnets
What a spectacular display of bonnets there were
on Friday 27th March! The teachers and judges
alike were seriously impressed with the creativity
on show, especially as nearly all hats were made
from recycled materials. Below are a few examples.
The winners are pictured at the top of the
newsletter.
Year 2 trip
On 23rd March, Year 2 went to visit The Tower of
London as the exit point of our IPC topic Buildings.
The children had an opportunity to take part in the
workshop called ‘Home for a King’ in which they
explored the Medieval palace and imagined how
life in the Middle Ages could be surprisingly
luxurious. They had a chance to visit The White
Tower, The ravens, The Tower Green, Coins and
Kings, Royal Beasts, The Fusilier Museum and The
Chapel of St John’s. Everyone was stunned by
seeing the spectacular display of the Crown Jewels.
We all had a fantastic time and learned a lot about
history! “Our favourite part was the Martin Tower,
where they kept the wild beasts. We learnt that they
had a polar bear that went for a swim in the River
Thames for exercise! It was an awesome trip!” Amanda
and Parthiv.

that is not important. It's only for one hour! If you
missed it, you can do this any time you like.
Thanks to Syeed and Hevin for highlighting this
important message. Help support them with their
goal of getting at least 100 people to switch
off. Remember that one twig will fall on its own.
But twigs entwined, will make the strongest of
nests.

Year 5 trip
Turkey and Russia classes visited the National Gallery
this week as part of their IPC topic on 'Artists
Impressions of the World'. They were tasked with
seeking out some of the impressionist painters'
paintings that they have been studying in class, then
sketch them and record information about the
paintings. The gallery assistants noted that there were
one or two talented artists among the pupils!
Music Concert
On Wednesday 25th March, our music students
performed to parents and carers in a very special
concert after school. Pupils are showing great
progress in their chosen instruments. Many thanks
to all of you who came and supported the event.
The films of the performances will be on the
school’s YouTube account shortly.

Earth Hour
Our world is beautiful. Let’s help it by supporting
Earth Hour. The lights from cities around the world
were switched off for Earth Hour. This
reduces energy use and signals a commitment to
fighting climate change.
It was on Saturday 28th March 2015, 8:30 pm 9:30pm (local time). During that hour, people
switched off the lights and any kind of electricity
On Wednesday 25th March, after lunch, Year 3 and
the After School Club performed some brilliant
dances and songs to fellow pupils and parents.
Again you can find the films of the performances
on our YouTube account.

the week
· Details of the what the children will need to
bring (you don’t need to buy anything)
 Details on health and safety
· Answer any questions you may have
Your child needs to come to the meeting too. It’s
an important meeting so we do hope you can make
it.
Year 6 – Easter School
Easter school is running from 30th March - 2nd April.
Children are expected to arrive at 9:25 and leave at
12:50 each day.
e-Safety – App age ratings
An interesting question was raised during the eSafety Coffee Morning. ‘How do you know if the
app your child has just downloaded is age
appropriate?’ Apple have their own age rating
system and that information is visible next to the
name of the app. Google Play is about to introduce
(in May) a system based on computer games’ PEGI
rating scheme and Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo
are planning to use PEGI ratings in the near future.
To stop your child downloading an app in the first
place without your permission, search for articles
telling you how to put restrictions on downloading/
installing and/or purchasing of apps from the
specific operating system or network provider.
Year 5 – Kench Hill Meeting
All year 5 parents are invited to a meeting about
the Kench Hill residential on Tuesday 14 th April
2015 at 9.00am. Even if you have not booked your
child to go, please do come and you may change
your mind. This is a great residential and a good
team building experience that your child will take
with them once they leave for secondary school.
At the meeting we plan to:
· Share details about the centre
· Give you a chance to see which members of
staff are going on the trip
