FRIENDS OF MUSIC MEETING: APRIL 13TH
Please join us at our next Friends of Music meeting on Monday, April 13th, at 6:30 pm in the chorus room. All are welcome to attend!
FRIENDS OF MUSIC IN NEED OF VOLUNTEERS
Open positions exist and will exist for
Friends of Music, and we need parents to
help. We currently are still in need of a
publicity coordinator and a Memorial Day Parade/Cookout
coordinator for this year. For next year, we will be losing
our Lancaster town rep, members of the Board, and Pep
Band food coordinator. Folks interested in learning more
about these positions should contact Paula Castner at nrhsfriendsofmusic@gmail.com
BOSTON POPS “BY POPULAR DEMAND” CONCERT: JUNE 5TH
Boston Pops Conductor, Keith Lockhart, is celebrating 20
years with the Boston Pops. In an effort to bring audiences
directly into the concert experience like never before, Keith
Lockhart and the Boston Pops will present "By Popular Demand," five concerts (5/7, 16, 26, 29 & 6/5) that offer concertgoers a chance to vote, live during the concert, for their
favorite piece of music through their web-enabled devices,
giving Pops audiences an opportunity to help program the
(Continued on page 2)
entire second half of the concert they are attending.
Votes will be tabulated within seconds after the voting
procedure and the musical selection with the most votes
will be performed that same evening. Audiences will
vote for tunes in categories such as "Favorite John Williams Movie Theme" and "Favorite Iconic Rock Ballad"
and even "Favorite Bugs Bunny Moment," showcasing the
great musical variety found in the Boston Pops library of
3,500 exclusive charts. A "Kids Choice" Family Concert
on May 16 puts the programming power in the hands of
the next generation.
(joelandtracy.lindsay@comcast.net) if you are interested
in volunteering your time to support our students.
Please note that our 2015 Annual Drama Banquet will
be held on Sunday, May 3rd. Invitations are being
mailed soon and any and all thespians are invited!
Please contact Holly Ventura at theventuras@yahoo.com
if you have any questions about the banquet.
CHALLENGER BASEBALL LEAGUE
The Challenger Baseball League returns and
seeks participants and volunteers. This program is for physically and mentally challenged children ages 5 through 18. Games
will be played Saturday mornings from 10
to 11 am May 3—June 14 at Thayer Field in
Lancaster. No practices, just games! Due to the growing
number of players, we need more helpers! Any local Little Leaguer, middle school, JV, or varsity athletes, and
anyone else who would like to help are encouraged to
come and be a buddy for our Challenger players. No
special baseball experience required, just a caring, positive attitude! The Mark Fidrych Foundation has covered
all registration costs for all players, so everyone plays
for free! Players should register online
at www.lancasterlittleleague.com, before April 1. Buddies/Helpers should contact Joe Kennedy
at kennedy2004@comcast.net for more information.
Friends of Music has purchased tickets for the last concert
on Friday, June 5th, at 8 pm. Tickets will go on sale for
interested students on April 27th after the Spring break.
Tickets are $25 each. Checks, made payable to “Friends
of Music”, may be given to Ms. Mianulli or Mr. McCarthy.
Tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis.
APRIL FRIENDS OF DRAMA NEWSLETTER
On the weekend of March 13, 14, and
15, children and adults alike were
wowed by Nashoba Drama Society’s
Spring Musical, “Peter Pan,” under the
direction of Mr. Bill Grady. Sell-out
crowds filled the house as Peter Pan,
Wendy, Michael, and John Darling (and later, Wendy’s
daughter, Jane) “flew” to Never Land and back despite
Captain Hook’s efforts to stop them. Three ensemble
groups: the pirates, the lost boys, and the Indians,
danced into the hearts of those in attendance; as did
Nana the dog, a life-like crocodile, a high-tech Tinker
Bell, and Hook’s hilarious side-kick, Smee. Standing ovations at each performance congratulated the cast, crew,
orchestra, and producers/directors of the timeless classic.
Kudos also, to the combined efforts of many parents
committee members who shared their time and talent in
coordinating and executing those amazing tasks such as
front-of-house décor, hair and make-up, costumes, props,
and set, to name a few. We hope you were among
those who had the opportunity to be transported to Never Land and back.
SEPAC NEWS
The Nashoba Regional School District’s Special Education
Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) has two events planned
for parents/guardians for the month of April.
“Basic Rights Workshop” on Thursday, April 16th at
7:00 pm
Bonnie Polakoff, an educational advocate, will lead a
“Basic Rights Workshop.” This workshop introduces participants to the federal and state special education laws,
special education process, parent and student rights and
how to resolve differences with the school. It is designed
to help parents learn how to be effective partners with
their child's school to decide the child's eligibility for special education, and to plan, make decisions and monitor
their child's progress in school.
The Friends of Drama Board would like to extend their
most sincere thanks and gratitude to all the parents, administrators, custodians, technical crew, and our amazing
actors who made this production possible. We would
like to especially thank Bill Grady, our Director; Rob
Nierintz, our Artistic Director; Melissa Lynch, our Choreographer; and Mike Hoffman, our Music Director for all
their extra time and efforts.
“The Roadmap to CBHI & Applying for MassHealth
and Accessing Services” on Thursday, April 30th at
7:00 pm
Bonnie Thompson, Family Leader at Mass Family Voices,
will speak on a topic that many parents have questions
about with the newly enacted legislation (MA Autism Bill
of 2014). Topics such as accessing autism related services through ARICA will also be covered.
The next Friends of Drama Meeting will be held on
Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at 6:00 pm in the auditorium
lobby. All interested parents are welcome to attend.
Please contact Tracy Lindsay
