Thank you for inquiring about the Graduate Certificate of Social Science: Male Family
Violence for 2015.
This course is convened by No To Violence, NTV in conjunction with Swinburne University of
Technology.
It is a Higher Education course and as such you are required to hold a Bachelor Degree or
have at least five years’ experience in the community sector.

The course requires you to attend 100 per cent of classes, see the schedule above.
All sessions will be from 9.30 – 4.30 pm.

Graduate Certificate in Social Science: Male Family Violence 2015 Application.
There are two practicums attached to the course:
Practicum 1:
Observe four sessions at a DHHS funded, NTV approved MBCP (preferably different
agencies)
Practicum 2:
There are two options for completion of the final unit. Students must choose one option only:
Facilitate eight sessions of a DHHS funded, NTV approved MBCP
Observe a comprehensive assessment including initial partner contact.
Observe a partner contact session.
OR
Facilitate eight sessions of a DHHS funded, NTV approved MBCP
plus any two of the following:
• attend a walk in her shoes session at the Magistrates Court,
•
facilitate and participate in two Family Violence team meetings in your
agency which will include peer supervision,
•
organise and attend a Magistrates Court that has a defendant worker and
spend a half day with that worker in their role,
•
participate in a peer supervision session with facilitators/partner contact
workers in your region,
•
observe a comprehensive assessment interview that also includes the
initial partner contact, or
•
observe a partner contact session.
Practicum 1 and 2 cannot be done at the same agency.
Students will be enrolled in the course from second semester 2015 until the end of first
semester 2016. The first three units and their requirements will be undertake in semester 2
2015 (August – October) on the successful completion of these three units the students can
commence the final unit – practicum 2 in first semester 2016 (March – May).
All assessment requirements including the Practicums and final assessment interview must
be completed by the due dates. If all assessment requirements are not completed by these
dates students will have to re-enrol at further cost.

You will be advised of your acceptance into the course by July 8, 2015*.
Swinburne will then send you an enrolment form which you will also need to complete and
submit.
* If, due to demand for the course, a waiting list is created, a second round of offers will be
made for places that have not been taken up by first round offers.
Department of Health and Human Services Funding
Any staff member, employed by community agencies funded by the Department of Health
and Human Services to provide men’s family violence services may be eligible for a funded
place in the course.
Course Fee
The cost of the course has been set by Swinburne at $4,800 and is due on enrolment. Fee
help will be available for those students who require assistance and have not been offered a
funded place in the course.

3. A letter from your agency on their letterhead stating that you meet the requirements
to take up a funded position in the course if offered.
