Please plan to attend this informative meeting with your 5th grade student. RIGHT TO READ WEEK and SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR Monday May 11 through Friday, May 15 is Right to Read Week! Right to Read week is in its 38th year! This is sponsored by the Ohio Council International Reading Association and is recognized across the state. This is an opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading!! There is a flyer coming home today outlining activities at Oakdale next week: Monday- Comfy Reading Day (wear appropriate PJs and bring a blanket) Tuesday-Beach Day Extravaganza (bring a towel, sunglasses, wear a colorful beach shirt. No bathing suits) Wednesday-Reading Buddy Day (bring a favorite stuffed animal.) Thursday-Book Share Bonanza! (bring your all-time favorite book to share with the class.) Friday-Dress-up Day (Wear an outfit to portray your favorite book character.) THE DRESS CODE MUST BE FOLLOWED. REFER TO STUDENT PLANNER OR ONLINE . SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR Buy One Get One Free books!! For every book you purchase, you can get another of equal or lesser value FREE! Students must have money to shop the book fair. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:15 until 3pm. SCOTTIE YARD UPDATE Oak Hills Alumni & Educational Foundation hosted a dinner and paddle call auction to raise money for the Scottie Yard at Oakdale. Thanks to emcee Bob Herzog and very generous donors and supporters $7,595 (yes, in ONE night!)was raised for the playground! If you have a few minutes, please watch this video we shared with our guests last night. Teachers, students and parents explain the importance of this project. We’ve recently advertised information about the Oakdale/Springmyer team from Destination Imagination which has won numerous awards so far this year. The team needs help!! The DI Diamonds will be representing the State of Ohio at the Global competition in Knoxville, TN the week of May 18th. The cost is approximately $900 per student to attend. Financial help is needed. ENRICHMENT DAY Oakdale's Enrichment Day is an annual event held in May to provide all of our students with multiple "inschool field trips." Over 20 different "field trip" presenters will travel to Oakdale to give fun, interactive lessons on various topics--from Beekeeping, to the circus, to art projects. The day won't be a success without YOU!
