Hayden House originated as a typical, single-story Sonoran row house built for the family of Charles Trumbell Hayden in 1873. Four years later, Carl Hayden, deemed the “most important person in Arizona history,” was born in the residence and it later became recognized as the oldest continuously occupied structure in Greater Phoenix. Through the years, this structure has evolved from a family residence to a boarding house, and ultimately restored to what would become an iconic restaurant for nearly 70 years. Dubbed “La Casa Vieja,” the building is a critical piece of Tempe history and is now the oldest remaining building in the Salt River Valley. 4 // Downtown Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Papago Park Midtown Camelback Mountain Tempe Center for the Arts Tempe Town Lake taurant Row Future Res project location RIO ASH AVENUE SAL ADO PAR K WAY Hayden Flower Mill Redevelopment Site D 3R // 100 S.
