The Saturday, September 26 U17 demonstration game to be held in Syracuse, NY the day before the Men’s World Indoor Lacrosse Championships Gold medal game is an opportunity to showcase the skill of U17 aged players to the international lacrosse audience attending the 2015 WILC in hopes that they will incorporate box lacrosse into their programs. Other Comments: There is a $100 registration fee payable to the CLA before trying out for the 2015 Men’s Indoor U17 Team Canada. It is due by July 15, 2015. The tryouts will be held in Greater Toronto Area from August 9-10, 2015, following the last day of the Midget Box National Championships. By design the national team established the U17 age category because it’s being less disruptive than U19 to the JR Box clubs that are so important to player development in Canada. JR aged players in their last 3 years of competition are past the U17 age cut off and can’t try out. For example JR players born in 1994, 1995 and 1996 aren’t eligible to play for U17 Team Canada this year. The majority of 1997 born players also are also too old because they are born before August 31, 1997. If you qualify as a current or former Midget Box Provincial player born on or after September 1, 1997 (1998, 1999, 2000) you will be responsible for getting yourself to and from Toronto, ON and your home. Each player will also be responsible for their hotel, food and ground transportation expenses during the tryout. NOTE: The CLA National Team staff will provide supervision during the tryout times, however players will not be supervised or chaperoned outside of the actual tryout times, nor will they be supervised should they not make the cut for day two. Parents should ensure that athletes are aware of this and have the appropriate supervision and support as required for the 2 day period. JR, Intermediate and Midget Box Team commitments should take priority over attending the 2 day tryout and all other Team Canada U17 events. A letter from your current JR, Intermediate or Midget Head Coach requesting that you be approved to miss the Team Canada tryout without penalty has to be submitted at time of application with the $100 fee. Please make sure your Head Coach references scheduled or potential games/practices during August 8 – 11 period (includes before and after camp travel days). Your request will be then be evaluated by the National Team staff to determine if you are approved to be excused from attending the Tryout camp and to be evaluated before the Tryout by our coaching staff. Additional details about the tryouts will be forwarded to registered players who have forwarded their $100 fee.
