No Family Left Behind Conference Serves Mentally Wounded Warriors and Their Families
Registration is free and childcare is available for April 24-25 event
SHILOH, Ill., March 17, 2015-The St. Louis area veteran support group Operation Honor will host
the second annual “No Family Left Behind” conference and connection fair. This year’s theme is
“Supporting Military Families in Restoring the Soul.” The two-day event takes place at Faith Family
Church, in Shiloh, Illinois, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, April 24, with an additional evening
session from 5:30 to 9 p.m. The Saturday session runs from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on April 25.
“Nearly 25 percent of suicides in Missouri involve a veteran,” said Brian Russell, event director and
veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan. “The impact on those families is incalculable, making the
need to offer these sorts of events more urgent. To save just one family from this cycle makes this
event a success.”
Operation Honor has partnered with the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Allsup and Illinois
Joining Forces to enlist nationally recognized speaker and ward-winning writer, Dr. Ed Tick. The
post-traumatic stress expert and author of “War and the Soul” released his latest book, “Warrior’s
Return: Restoring the Soul After War,” in November, 2014.
Dr. Tick is the keynote speaker and will lead sessions on the topic of mental health of combat
veterans both days of the conference. Additional breakout sessions will address a wide variety of
issues, including the disability claims process for veterans, post-deployment readjustment for
children and help for families affected by post-traumatic stress disorder.
The conference connection fair will feature St. Louis area organizations and businesses that support
veterans and military families.
The goal of the conference is to connect military families, past and present, with resources available
to help improve their quality of life. Registration is free and childcare is available at no cost. To
