Spring/Summer 2015
The Orange Youth Sports Program is coordinated by
Sandra Andrews and supervised by Anthony (AJ)
Corona. They can be reached at orangeyouthsports@orangecsd.org or at 831-8601 ext. 5106.
Orange Youth Sports’ goal is to serve youth in grades
K-6 by providing quality youth recreational sports
programs and experiences open to all interested
young girls and boys who desire to be involved in
recreational sports, learn about sports, improve their
skills, build character and leadership, and provide
competitive opportunities.
BASEBALL/SOFTBALL
Please note that the deadline to register for all spring baseball and softball
programs is April 17. Registrations
taken after that date will only be as
space allows and players may not
receive t-shirt or hat.
All baseball and softball players must provide their own glove,
and will receive a team shirt and hat to wear to games. All
teams will be coached by volunteer coaches, and may hold additional practices. For many of the programs, Captains Baseball
Academy will run the clinics and help form even teams.
Co-ed T-Ball Clinic & League Grades K-1
The mission of Orange Youth Sports is to provide quality recreational sports programming for children in the greater Orange
School district. Our goal is to provide fun, accessible and positive youth sports experiences by emphasizing fundamentals and
the spirit of the game, as well as sportsmanship, personal
development and athletic growth.
VOLUNTEER COACHES
The Orange Youth Sports program relies on assistance from
volunteer parents who serve as coaches for sports teams with
assistance from Orange Youth Sports staff. If you are interested
in being a volunteer coach, please note that on your registration
form when registering your child or contact our staff. Please
note that if there are not enough volunteer coaches, teams may
be combined or, as a last resort, the program may be canceled
and refunds issued. All volunteer coaches must successfully
complete a concussion certification on-line and also have a
background check done in order to serve as a coach. Orange
Community Education & Recreation will pay the cost of the
background checks for coaches.

Spring Flag Football
League- Grades 3-5
Boys Baseball Coach Pitch Grades 1-2
Players will learn how to hit the ball with a coach pitching the
ball to players.

Girls Minor & Major Softball Grades 3 - 6
New! This year feature a new
league, the United States Flag
& Touch Football League. The
football league will focus on the
fundamentals of football plays
and comfort on the field. The
USFTL will hold evaluations to
ensure players are evenly distributed to teams. Volunteer
parents will be coaching and may hold additional practices.
Games will begin on 4/11, playoffs on 5/9.

Orange Recreation Youth Sports makes every effort to play all
practices/games scheduled. Games are cancelled if there is
lightening, excessive rain or unseasonably cold temperatures,
or if the field conditions are poor. Orange Recreation Youth
Sports will have an account set up with
www.rainedout.com. You will receive an e-mail asking
you to sign up. By signing up, you will get either e-mails or
text messages when games are cancelled. This is the only way
we will communicate weather cancelations. Whenever possible,
make-up games will be scheduled.

FALL SPORTS
Football Clinic
Please note that most of the fall programs start before school
starts and the deadline to register for fall programs is July 31.
Pepper Pike Learning Center is closed from August 1 until August
17. Registrations taken after that date will only be as space
allows and players may not receive a uniform.
This is a fun instructional
program for young inexperienced players. Instructors will teach proper footwork, routes, coverage, and flag pulling
through fun drills and
games. Informal teams
will be formed and a
game will be played.

Soccer Leagues – Grades K-3
All Soccer Programs will be led by well-known professional soccer
coach Dennis Weyn. All players will receive a t-shirt. Shin
guards are required. Please bring a soccer ball. The first two
sessions of this program will be instructional clinics. Even teams
will be formed with parent coaches for each team. Parent coaches are encouraged to hold additional practices. Games will be
played within the league using soccer officials to teach while
explaining rules.

Touch Football League. The football league will focus on the fundamentals of football plays and comfort on the field. The USFTL

coaches leading. Depending on numbers, the age groups may be
combined. There will be a bye week on 10/10 for possible make
up games. The league will end with playoffs on 10/17.

Tackle Football League
This program will practice during the week and play games on
Saturday & Sunday afternoon as a part of the North Coast Youth
Football Conference. Practices will start off at 4 days a week in
the evening and then drop to 3 days a week once games start.
Attendance at August practices is required to participate as each
player builds up to contact drills. Equipment is provided, and will
be distributed on 8/3. A completed packet will be needed to participate, including: birth certificate, school schedule/report card
and a medical release form from a doctor. Participants must be
younger than 12 years of age on July 31st to be eligible to play.
Josh Rogers, Brady Middle School Head Football Coach, will be
returning to coach the team along with parent volunteers.
