Benjamin N. Basson
Benjamin was introduced to finance when his father helped him open his first savings
account at the age of six. He has actively pursued his interest in finance and investment ever
since. Benjamin grew up in Israel and moved to Seattle, Washington at the age of 15. Upon his
arrival in the United States, he worked tirelessly to accustom himself to life in this country.
Benjamin started a friendly financial competition with his new high school friends using market
simulation software, an activity that helped him make the cross-cultural adjustment. The
competition also increased Benjamin’s understanding of the stock market, investing and
research.
Upon Benjamin’s arrival at Syracuse University in 2011, he joined the Syracuse
University Investment Fund, a student run organization that manages over $150,000. Benjamin
is also a member of the Delta Sigma Pi professional fraternity. He is currently responsible for
allocating the fraternity’s funds as a member of its finance and investment boards. In addition,
Benjamin has held professional internships in business development and marketing, consulting
and equity research in both the United States and Israel. These internships have contributed to
his wide array of interpersonal, communication and cross-cultural skills.
As a Senior Analyst with the Orange Value Fund, Benjamin will use the valuable
experience he has acquired through his professional internships and international life
experiences to bring innovative perspectives to the team. He looks forward to a valuable
educational experience that will enable him to achieve his lifelong goal of a career in finance.

Joe Chan
Joe originally grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and moved to Hong Kong at the age of
7. Upon graduating high school he moved to New York City where he currently resides.
Joe’s first exposure to finance was when his grandfather gave him his first allowance and
encouraged him to save a portion of it and invest his savings in the future. His intellectual
curiosity for finance grew as he grew older and led him to wonder what he could invest
his savings into. This led Joe to discover the world of financial markets and the
importance of the role that finance plays not just in businesses but also the world
economy as well.
During the spring semester and summer of his sophomore year, Joe interned at
Diversified Wealth Strategies, a wealth management firm located in Syracuse. Joe
worked with various partners and financial advisors across the firm to discuss screening
criteria for the scorecard models that he built. He applied the appropriate values for each
scoring criteria to each sector that was included in Morningstar Direct and exported
spreadsheets through the program to build the scorecard models that were eventually used
by partners and financial advisors of the firm to facilitate investment decisions made by
the firm’s Investment Committee.
This summer Joe interned at William Blair & Company’s New York office with
the Equity Research division. He worked extensively with the Global Industrial and
Infrastructure coverage group and focused primarily on analyzing Engineering,
Construction and Capital Goods public companies. Joe believes that his experience
within a fast-paced, markets-driven environment that promoted teamwork,
communication, and accountability was a vital step forward in his future career in
finance. His experience in Equity Research has helped him develop the necessary skills to
succeed in the financial services industry, especially in areas of accounting, security
analysis, valuation, and financial modeling.
As a Senior Analyst in the Orange Value Fund, Joe has prepared presentations
and pitched a fund holding to select bankers in New York City within his first semester in
the program. As Joe progresses through the program, Joe hopes to continually be a strong
contributor to the Orange Value Fund and further hone his skillsets to prepare him for a
successful career within the financial services industry.

Andres Diz
If someone ever asked Andres what his passions were in life he would quickly respond two
answers: finance and renewable energy. The desire to learn more about each area started at a young age
and has led him to the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University to study finance
and managerial accounting, while working for a minor in renewable energy at the prestigious SUNY
College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
Andres just finished up his junior year of school and gained an extensive amount of knowledge
within his desired fields. As a junior within the Orange Value Fund, LLC, Andres has worked on several
investment ideas that follow his expertise. He single-handedly wrote a report on Renewable Energy
Group Inc., a biodiesel production company and a report on SunEdison Inc., a solar system installer. He
utilized his modeling skills to find proper valuations for each company including a DCF model and a net
asset value approach, increased his knowledge of both industry areas by reading financial reports and
being current with sector news, and pitched his ideas to the director of the fund as potential investment
opportunities. He is excited to continue this work in the coming school year.
Andres has also had the privileged to work within the internal audit team at SunEdison in St.
Peters. He spent the majority of his twelve-week internship working on an operational audit for the
distributed generation segment of the business. Him, along with two others, interviewed everyone
involved in a solar project to gain a full understanding of how a system gets acquired by the sales team
and is closed by the construction team. After assessing the risks and the inefficiencies of the project, the
team provided head management with proposed changes. Along with his work on the distributed
generation side, Andres assisted in a financial audit of the Singaporean office. While there, he increased
his knowledge of solar accounting. He also got a chance to learn the more mechanical and technical side
of the solar systems when the internal audit visited one of their many sights.
Andres hopes to leverage his many qualities and experiences to continue down a path that
combines his passion for renewable energy and finance.

Elmer Luke III
Elmer, an Ohio native, studying finance and economics at Syracuse University, became interested
in finance at a young age. His interest in the financial markets was sparked by a merit badge requirement
in Boy Scouts. Curiosity led to Elmer to read and learn more on this topic. Whether it was a sleepless
night at his computer or reserving and searching through 30 to 50 books at a time from the local libraries
he was determined to understand more about the movement of stock prices.
Passionately, Elmer proceeded to read more not only on stocks but also on stock options,
currencies and commodities. A product of learning financial markets in a recession era, Elmer has
developed an interest in macroeconomics, and has analyzed investment ideas from both a top down and
bottom up approach. In markets becoming ever more globalized, macroeconomic events have become
salient in any investment analysis idea. Aside from the fundamentals of the company or industry, Elmer
has used technical analysis to confirm his idea, using this in his personal portfolio of stocks.
Upon arriving at Syracuse University Elmer used his gained knowledge and joined the Syracuse
University Investment Club, immediately becoming involved as a financial sector and currency market
analyst. As a freshman, Elmer contributed to the conversation often looking at macroeconomic headwinds
that he believed would be overlooked and recommend his ideas to the investment club. Currently, Elmer
serves as the clubs’ President, after previously holding positions the Portfolio Manager and research
analyst.
Recently, Elmer has been researching futures spreads and pairs trading. He has analyzed energy
commodities, interest rate, and agricultural commodity spreads looking primarily at seasonal data,
business cycles, and global demand and supply for goods and how it affects future prices. As well as how
interest rates effect currencies exchange rates, and economic demand in countries contributing to growth
or contraction. All the while, looking to see how these actions affect business and stock prices. After
graduation Elmer aspires to work in investment banking. His long term goal is to work in the hedge fund
industry.

Joseph “Joe” Morgan
From a modest beginning in Jamesville, a small suburb of Syracuse, New York, Joe Morgan has
never been afraid to do what is necessary to achieve his goal of gaining a career in finance. After
two years of schooling at Le Moyne College, a smaller school in Central New York, Joe learned
that if he were to chase his dream of making it to Wall Street, it would require hard work, active
engagement with the financial world, and transferring to the Martin J. Whitman School of
Management at Syracuse University in order to study finance and accounting.
Since transferring to Whitman, Joe has come to greatly appreciate the concept of risk and reward,
which strengthened his interest in the application of that concept in the financial markets. After
risking extra time to complete his bachelor’s degree, thousands of dollars in tuition to make up
for lost credits, and possibility of failure in attaining a position in financial services in New York
City, Joe has reaped the rewards of scholarly excellence as well as involvement with crucial work
and extracurricular opportunities such as the Orange Value Fund. His passion for the financial
world coupled with his strong work ethic has helped him to maintain a 3.9 GPA while working as
both an Analyst for the Orange Value Fund, LLC and a Sales Associate at Sears. These
opportunities have taught him the invaluable skill of time management; bolstered his abilities to
work both alongside others on team projects as well as individually; and given him confidence,
poise, and integrity in managing client relationships.
The comfort and enjoyment that Joe experiences while working face-to-face with clients has
given him a strong desire to pursue a position in sales once he begins his career in New York
after graduating, and in the meantime he has eagerly accepted any opportunity to hone his skills
there. For the summer of 2014 Joe will be interning at BNP Paribas, working at the equity
derivatives sales desk covering hedge funds.

Benjamin Uhing
Benjamin Uhing is a junior enrolled in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse
University. His passion for finance and investing came from discussions with his father about the market
and deciding together which securities they should invest in for his college fund. Ben ventured from the
Midwest to Syracuse University to ultimately transition to a future career in finance on the East Coast.
Ben has been on the Dean’s List every semester while maintaining a strong 3.75 GPA. While at
Syracuse University, Ben has developed multiple tools including teamwork, communication, and analytic
skills, which will be beneficial for his career in business. Ben has been awarded the Chancellor’s
Scholarship for his continued academic achievement. He was chosen to be a member of the Beta Gamma
Sigma Business Honor’s Society, which handpicks students out of the top 10% of their schools accredited
business program to become members.
Beyond the classroom, Ben is involved in many other activities at Syracuse University. He
demonstrates his leadership skills by being a peer facilitator for six first year management students by
serving as a liaison between students and faculty. He is also President, Team Captain and starting middle
blocker of the Syracuse Men’s Club Volleyball team, which finished ninth out of 48 teams at the National
Club Volleyball Tournament in 2014. He manages the team’s annual budget of over $20,000 and
allocates the funds to best serve the club. Ben’s competitive drive was exposed in high school where he
was the varsity team captain of state championship winning cross country and basketball teams. He plans
to take the love of competition he learned through sports into his professional life.
In addition to the skills attained through academics, extracurricular activities, and athletics, Ben’s
work history has provided him with valuable experience. In the summer 2014, Ben was a summer analyst
for J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. in New York City where he covered private equity services. He assisted in
developing waterfall models for various private equity funds.
Upon graduation from Syracuse University, Ben plans to pursue a career in either asset
management or investment banking where he can put his competitive drive and strong work ethic to use
in a fast paced work environment.
