The Australian & New Zealand Association for Health
Professional Educators (ANZAHPE) is the peak organisation
for practitioners involved in the education and training of
health professionals in Australia and New Zealand. ANZAHPE
is comprised of clinicians, academic educators and students,
and supports and advances education in the health care

About Ottawa Conferences
The Ottawa Conferences on the Assessment of Competence
in Medicine and the Healthcare Professions were set up by
Professor Ian Hart (Ottawa, Canada) and Professor Ronald
Harden (Dundee, UK) in 1985. Held biennially at venues
throughout the world, they provide a forum for medical
and other healthcare professions educators to network and
share ideas on all aspects of the assessment of competence
in both clinical and non-clinical domains, throughout the
continuum of education. Participants include both those
new to the area of assessment and those with many years
of experience to share. Ottawa Conferences are committed
to encouraging developments in assessment with a view to
improving health care and health care delivery around the
world. Ottawa Conferences are now jointly organised by
AMEE (www.amee.org) and a Local Organising Committee.

We are pleased to announce that The Ottawa 2016 Conference and The Australian and New Zealand
Association of Health Professional Educators (ANZAHPE) 2016 Conference will be held concurrently at Perth
Convention and Exhibition Centre, Perth Western Australia, from 19-23 March 2016.
The continuum of healthcare professions education and assessment will be addressed, with sessions covering
undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education. The fully integrated Conference provides the opportunity
for participants to focus on developments in the assessment of competence in medicine and the healthcare
professions internationally by following the Ottawa streams, or to look more generally at education
in the healthcare professions by following the ANZAHPE streams.
All participants will meet for the opening ceremony, the three plenary sessions, and for coffee
and lunch in the exhibition area, and may then attend sessions of their choice in either
stream depending on their interests and needs, through one joint registration.

the dolphins of Monkey Mia, the 350-million-year-old Bungle
Bungle range and the towering Karri forests of the South West.
The Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre (PCEC) is a
state-of-the-art, purpose-built convention, exhibition and
meeting venue. Ideally located in the heart of the city and
next to the beautiful Swan River, PCEC is within easy walking

location for the Ottawa 2016 and ANZAHPE 2016 Conference.

a day shopping, cruising on the Swan River, relaxing on a

Margaret River region. Rottnest Island also makes a wonderful
day out, with pristine blue water, and long stretches of white
sandy beaches. Spend a day exploring the island on bicycle,
catch the bus or train tour and explore spectacular marine life.
Bordered largely by desert to the east, Western Australia
is bound by 12,500 kilometres (7,813 miles) of the world’s
most pristine coastline to the west.
