Treating Attachment Injuries and
Trauma using Internal Family
Systems (IFS)
THERTHERAPY
Internal Family Systems: The (IFS) model offers an
empowering non-pathologizing approach to treating
trauma. The basic premise of the most traumatized
individual possesses an undamaged deep Self that
we can draw from to heal any wounded parts of
ourselves. Negating the trauma response by
becoming overly self-protective. IFS employs highly
sophisticated methods to help traumatized
individuals relax and understand they are no longer
under threat, lowering the barriers to renewed
connection with their always present inner-guide by
accepting all parts of ourselves engaging them with
compassionate curiosity rather than judgment,
transforming them into valuable qualities.
Richard C. Schwartz, Ph.D. developed IFS. He is a
noted author, trainer and founder of the Center for
Self Leadership. Dr. Schwartz has published five
books and fifty articles about IFS.
