(April 29 _30, 2015)
Jointly Organized by
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Mohali (IISER Mohali)
&
INDEST-AICTE Consortium , IIT Delhi
INDEST-AICTE Consortium: The INDEST-AICTE Consortium is one of the most ambitious
initiatives of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). The “Indian National Digital
Library in Engineering Sciences and Technology (INDEST) Consortium” was set up in 2003 by
MHRD on the recommendation of an expert committee appointed by the Ministry. IIT Delhi was
designated as the Consortium Headquarters to coordinate its activities. 65 institutions including
IISc, IITs, IIMs, IISERs, NITs NERIST, ISM, IIITs, IIITM, NITTTR and a few other centrally funded
government institutions receive fund required for subscribing to select electronic resources from
the Ministry through the consortium headquarters. Besides, 60 government or government-aided
engineering colleges and technical departments in universities have joined the Consortium with
financial support from AICTE. The Consortium was renamed INDEST-AICTE Consortium in
December 2005 with AICTE playing a pivotal role in enrolling its approved engineering colleges
and institutions as members of the Consortium. These institutes could subscribe to select e-
resources at much lower rates subjecte to subscrpitions’ favorable terms and conditions. The
consortium has served 1235 institutions under its self-supported membership
Host Institute : Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Mohali is one of the five
institutes established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The basic mandate of the
IISERs is to carry out research in frontier areas of science and to provide quality science education
at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. IISER Mohali started functioning from a transit campus
in 2007 and now functions from the campus in Sector 81, Mohali (renamed SAS Nagar). The
institute has 72 faculty members, around 600 students in the BS-MS programme and around 300
PhD and Integrated PhD students. Research and teaching in biological sciences, chemical sciences,
earth and environmental sciences, humanities and social sciences, mathematical sciences and
physical sciences are being carried out at the institute.
Library @IISERM ( Informatics Centre ) : Established in 2007, the Library of IISER Mohali
provides rich and relevant information resources to the IISER Mohali community with
a view to aid their research, teaching and learning endevours. With a user-focused service,
the Library aims to create a conducive environment for the intellectual exchange of scholarly
information and knowledge.
With the arrival of internet, the role of physical libraries has considerably altered the social,
creative, learning spaces, reflecting in the nature of research and education. Besides being the
repositories of knowledge where the importance of collaboration, group work and
communication in teaching and learning are widely recognised, IISER Mohali has set up the
Informatics Centre in 2015 which also houses the sky library with the theme, " Learning
Commons ". With its pleasant ambience, services and resources, the library creates an effective
and informal space to attract the general readers too. This is the first library in India which has
implimented "Learning Commons", thereby encouraging students to discover, create and
collaborate with peers in a space that inspires them to be more productive , creative and
successful.
IISER Mohali library uses Open Access Library Management Software "Koha" for house keeping
activities and "Dspace" for Institutional Repository. It provides access to thousands of e-journals,
databases and e-books. The setting up of the state-of-the-art technologies like RFID, Biometrics
and CCTV are in progress.

About the Place : Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula form what is locally known as the 'Tricity'.
Chandigarh, the first planned city of independent India, was neatly divided into numbered sectors.
The sector scheme of Chandigarh extends into Mohali (subsequently named Sahibzada Ajit Singh
(SAS) Nagar). Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Mohali is located in Sector 81 of
SAS Nagar. Sector 81 is being developed as the knowledge city. The institutes in Nanotechnology
and Biotechnology and other fields are coming up around IISER Mohali. Next to IISER is the Indian
School of Business, which is also a part of the knowledge city. Mohali boasts of a major cricket
ground, the PCA stadium where many international matches are held. The stadium hosts the Kings
XI Punjab team of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Travel Information : IISER Mohali is situated in Sahibzada Ajit Singh (SAS) Nagar, which is located
next to the city of Chandigarh. Chandigarh is well connected to Delhi and Mumbai by air, and to
Delhi by train. If you plan to travel to Chandigarh by train, then Shatabdi express would be a good
choice. IISER Mohali is 12kms away from Chandigarh Railway Station and 13kms from
Chandigarh Airport.
Tourism Information : Chandigarh is the gateway to a large section of the Himalayas and the
province of Punjab. The Rock garden is a famous art work made out of discarded materials. There
are a number of archaeological sites from late Harappan age to 1st and 2nd century A. D, the
most remarkable being Sanghol, which is an hour's drive from Chandigarh. There are many fossil
parks near Kala Aamb/Nahan in Himachal Pradesh. Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, is
just three hours drive from Chandigarh. Another quaint place in the hills is Kasauli which is an
hour and a half's drive from Chandigarh. The most attractive and historical places in
Punjab/India include the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the Indian - Pakistan Border in Wagah, and
the Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar which is 225km away from Chandigarh.
