PRESS RELEASE 5-11-15 Contact: Mike Singer 760-341-2883, ext. 78107 msinger@csusb.edu CSUSB Palm Desert Campus to host annual Memorial Day Observance PALM DESERT, Calif. – In observance of Memorial Day, the Veterans Success Center at Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus will pay tribute to fallen service members on Friday, May 22, on the front patio of the campus’s Palm Desert Health Sciences Building at 3 p.m. The event will begin with a welcome from the campus’s dean, Sharon Brown-Welty, followed by a presentation of colors by the Desert Hot Springs High School Marine Corps JROTC. CSUSB Palm Desert Campus alum and U.S. Navy veteran Jeanne Sinclair will emcee the event. Military leadership from the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms will provide the keynote address and Moments of Reflection. The flag folding ceremony will be conducted by the La Quinta High School Air Force JROTC and a 21-gun salute and the playing of “Taps” will be provided by the American Legion Post 519/Palm Springs. Joel Daniels, a retired United States Marine Corps gunnery sergeant, will play “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes. Refreshments will be served following the ceremony and tours of the campus’s Veteran’s Success Center will be offered.
