Springtime Brings Spring Flowers but also
Noxious Weeds!
For any noxious weed or grass cutting concerns on public
property, please call Community Services at 780-624-1000. If
you spot any weeds on or around your property, please assist
us by disposing of them in a manor that keeps the seeds from
spreading. Thank you.
Booking Sports Fields/Parks for
Activities or Events
Are you thinking of utilizing one of our local sports fields or
parks for your next team activity or special event? If so, please
let us know by phoning 780-624-1000. By booking these
facilities with our department, you get first priority for use on
that facility.
For additional information about Event Permits, please go to
www.peaceriver.ca, Forms/Publications, and scroll down to
Event and Festival Information, or drop by the Town Office to
pick up your Event Permits and Information Brochure.
Community Services and Museum Boards
The Advisory Board of Council; Community Services Board and
our Museum Board are currently seeking new members from
the community. The Community Services Board meets the 4th
Wednesday of each month and the Museum Board meets once
every two months.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our
Parade of Programs Event on April 1st, the Easter
Egg-Stravaganza Event on April 4th and the Cup O’
Joe Event on April 11th! We had a great turnout for
all 3 events (approx. 1160 participants) and a
great group of volunteers (41) came out to
give us a hand as well.

Summer Programs for Youth!
The Summer Fun Program is a recreational
program for children 6-10 years of age. That runs
from Jul. 6th to Aug. 20th, 2015 and features
daily, afternoon activities. Choose only the weeks that work
best with your summer schedule. Cost is $35 - $40 per week.
The Extreme Adventures Program is for youth
10-16 years of age and runs from Jul. 6th to Aug.
20th, 2015 and will feature several exciting
adventures and youth can choose to sign up for
their favourite ones. Adventures may include: paintball,
canoeing, hiking, golf, t-shirt painting, glass melting classes,
dance, theatre, yoga classes, etc. Cost varies depending on the
adventures you choose.

Memorial Bench
Program
If you would like to purchase a
bench in memory of a loved one,
to have placed in one of our
Town of Peace River Greenspace
areas, please contact Brian at
780-624-1000 for more information.
The cost of the bench is $2,000 plus G.S.T.
Through partnership funding from Northern Sunrise County, MD of Peace 135 and the County of Northern Lights, programming that is
offered by Peace River FCSS is also accessible to all residents of these areas. We thank these Municipalities for their support.

Meals on Wheels
Our Meals on Wheels Program is back! Clients of this program
will have hot and/or frozen meal options
delivered to their door every Thursday. For

Roots of Empathy Program
Come join us!
The Town of Peace River FCSS is currently
looking for additional Roots of Empathy
families (expecting a baby in July or August
of 2015) for next year’s Roots Program. This
exciting program starts in September and
goes to May and requires less than 10 hours
of your personal time through the entire program. For more

about the Roots of Empathy Program on an International scale,

Over the past five years, the
artefact collection at the
Museum has been managed
and exhibited under the care
and expertise of Megan Purcell.
A sincere thank you goes out to Megan as she
is moving to Vancouver Island to further her
experience as a Collections Manager at the
Campbell River Museum. So long, Megan and
thank you!
May 9th - Small Objects, Big Stories
Join the Museum at Java Domain to explore the stories behind
the extensive collection of jewelry of Vahe Shimoon. This
collection is a life time's passion and represents adornment
from around the world. Times for this event will be announced
shortly.
May 19th - Special Guest
Author, playwright and story teller Marty Chan will be a guest
speaker at the Museum at 7pm. Mr. Chan's Chinese Albertan
roots will be the topic for the evening and he will also speak to
and have for sale his recent books for youth, The Mystery
Series, including "The Mystery of the Frozen Brains".
May 23rd - Take a Hike
...along the historic Pat's Creek Trail with the Museum,
Northern Sunrise and Environment and Sustainable Resource
Development between 11am and 3pm. This natural and social
history hike will start and conclude at the Agricultural
Society Grounds in Northern Sunrise County with a BBQ.
Senior’s Week Event - June 5th
Plans are currently underway for this year’s Senior’s Week
Event. Please phone Amina at 780-624-1000 or watch our
website event calendar and/or facebook page for upcoming
announcements regarding the venue and time of this event.

Town of Peace River FCSS would like to thank the management
and staff of MNP LLP for donating their valuable time in filing
Income Tax for low income seniors and persons with disabilities,
once again this year. MNP LLP donated over 100 hours of their
time and filed 104 client income tax returns. Their generous
contribution is greatly appreciated by Town of Peace River and
the Seniors in the community.

FREE SWIMS
Run, walk or support those who do, at the annual Heritage Run.
Starting at the Museum at 8:30am, this fundraiser organized by
the Peace River Running Club, for the Museum, is a fine
opportunity to join health with heritage!
Registration forms @ the Museum, Fitness on the Go and Al
Adair Rec. Centre. If necessary, registration may be made
available the morning of the race. More Heritage Run
