9-Day Pilgrimage to Ireland  August 8 – 16, 2015  Daily Itinerary
Dear Pilgrims:
Ireland’s Annual 9-day National
Novena honoring Our Lady attracts thousands
of pilgrims to this beautiful land and the
pilgrimage town of Knock every August; the
month of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
It will be an honor for me to open
Ireland’s National Public Novena on the 14th of
August with Mass in the Basilica of Our Lady, Queen of Ireland, in
Knock. I invite the faithful of the Archdiocese of New York to be
renewed in soul, mind, and body as we experience the depth of our
shared Catholic faith with our brothers and sisters in Ireland.
Will you join me!
+Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan
Archbishop of New York

August 9, Sunday: Arrive in Knock – Ireland’s National
Marian Shrine – Welcome Gala Dinner
Arrive, Knock Airport, proceed through Passport Control, claim our luggage, and a Peter’s
Way Tour Manager/guide will meet us upon exiting Customs. We will receive a warm
welcome from Knock Airport and Knock Shrine representatives, then continue on our way
to Ireland’s National Marian Shrine in Knock, County Mayo. The Story of Knock began on
the evening of August 21, 1879 when the Virgin Mary, St Joseph and St John the Evangelist
appeared at the south gable of the church at Knock. Beside them and a little to their left was
an altar with a cross and the figure of a lamb, around which angels hovered. There were
fifteen official witnesses to the apparition who watched and prayed for two hours in the
pouring rain. Since then, this Marian Shrine has attracted millions of pilgrims each year from
all over the world. The special message of Knock is the need for Penance. We begin our
pilgrimage with Mass at the Chapel of the Apparition, celebrated by His Eminence
Timothy Cardinal Dolan. After Mass, enjoy a welcome reception with coffee, tea and
scones. This afternoon we will check in to our hotel and enjoy the remainder of the afternoon
at leisure. Early evening, freshen up for a festive evening! We will gather together to enjoy a
gala welcome dinner with entertainment in Knock.
Overnight at hotel in Westport.

Day 3 August 10, Monday: Pilgrimage to Lough Derg
Irish breakfast at hotel. After breakfast, we will set out to explore a significant place of
pilgrimage. Lough Derg, the sacred Sanctuary of St Patrick, is very much a living part of Irish
Christian Heritage. This small island that attracted St Patrick himself, has called many
pilgrims for over one thousand years. We will make our pilgrimage to the island of Lough
Derg by boat. The small lake in the southeast of Donegal was the only Irish place of
pilgrimage known throughout Europe during the Middle Ages. The island, made holy by
the prayers of millions of pilgrims over the centuries, continues to provide a safe haven for
rest, reflection and renewal. Mass in Lough Derg, celebrated by His Eminence, Timothy
Cardinal Dolan.
After independent lunch, continue on our journey through County Sligo, known as Yeats
Country as the scenery inspired many of his great works. Irish poet, William Butler Yeats,
chose a peaceful churchyard at Drumcliffe in County Sligo as his final resting place, at the
foot of Benbulben Mountain. See the magnificent variety of mountain scenery, beautiful
lakes, waterfalls, woods and a breathtaking coastline with endless beaches and cliffs. There
is one of the greatest concentrations of megalithic tombs in all of Europe in Sligo.
Carrowmore is one of oldest Stone-Age burial sites in Europe with some hundred tombs,
passage graves, dolmens and stone circles. We will pass by the summit of Knocknarea
Mountain, with its huge flat-topped cairn called Maeve's Cairn. Queen Maeve was the Iron
Age Queen of Connaught.
Dinner and overnight at hotel in Westport.

–Killarney
11, Tuesday: Burren Region – Cliffs of Moher
Irish breakfast at hotel. This morning we will drive through the heart of Connemara to the
dramatic Burren Region. The area got its name from its polished limestone landscape
(‘Boirean’ is the Irish word for rocky). The region was largely sculpted over the last two mil-
lion years by glaciers, through the exposure and submergence of its
landscape to ice, ocean and the plate movements of the earth. The
whole area, with its flora and fauna, is heaven for geologists and
botanists. We will stop at the Cliffs of Moher, the most majestic cliffs
in Ireland that rise over 700 feet from the Atlantic Ocean and extend
for over four miles. From this height, admire the Aran Islands and
the Connemara Mountains, and listen to the many sea birds that
colonize this place from springtime on. Independent lunch en route.
Late afternoon, take the Shannon Car Ferry to County Kerry.
Depart from Killimer or Tarbert, the Shannon Car ferry is a convenient way to cross the Shannon estuary between Clare and Kerry.
Using two ferries there is a regular timetable and the 20 minutes
crossing saves the voyager many hours of driving. Enjoy a great
view of the surrounding landscape from the upper deck. The journey takes about 20 minutes and drinks and snacks are available for
purchase on board. Continue on to Killarney for hotel check-in.
Celebrate Mass upon arrival in Killarney.
Dinner and overnight at hotel in Killarney.

Day August 12, Wednesday: Killarney Lakes
and Ring of Kerry Highlights
Irish breakfast at hotel. This morning, enjoy a Ring of Kerry highlights tour including Molls Gap and Ladies View Molls’ Gap. The
visitor is presented with a magnificent view of Death Valley. Close
by is the famous Ladies View viewing point with gives a different
perspective of this magnificent countryside, with the 3 Lakes of
Killarney all surrounded by the Kerry Mountains. Ladies View
received its name from Queen Victoria, who was so impressed with
the view that she insisted that her ladies-in-waiting should also visit
here. Return to Killarney and enjoy a visit to Muckross House &
Gardens. Muckross is a magnificent Victorian mansion built in 1843
and is one of Ireland’s leading stately homes. Built on the shores of
Muckross Lake, it is beautifully situated amidst the spectacular
scenery of Killarney National Park. The Gardens of Muckross
House are famed for their beauty worldwide. In particular they are
noted for their collections of azaleas and rhododendrons. Late afternoon, transfer to St. Mary’s Cathedral for the evening Mass, celebrated by His Eminence, Timothy Cardinal Dolan.
Dinner and overnight at hotel in Killarney.

August 13, Thursday: Tour of Dingle
including Mass Rock
Irish breakfast at hotel. This morning depart for a daytrip to the
Dingle Peninsula with some of the finest coastal scenery to be seen
in Ireland. This peninsula is famous for its Celtic, pre-Christian
monuments and Christian churches. It is also a ‘Gaeltacht' (Irish
speaking) area, where the Irish language and traditional ways of life
are preserved. Dingle town itself is a thriving fishing town and
offers plenty of opportunity for shopping or simply savoring the
atmosphere of a typical country Irish town with its plentiful pubs,
narrow streets and busy harbor. The road around the Peninsula is
truly spectacular. It passes through a chain of Mountains, called
Slieve Mish. From Inch, a long beach bordered by dunes and made
famous by David Lean’s movie “Ryan’s daughter,” admire the
Iveragh Peninsula and Rossbeigh Beach. From Dingle, drive around
the coast to Slea Head. Here the blue of the marine landscape
surrounds the Blaskets Islands, deserted since 1953. In the distance
are the two rocky Skellig islands, where the ruins of an early
Christian Monastery can be found. Independent lunch.
This afternoon, we will visit Gallarus Oratory, the most impressive
early Christian monument on the Dingle peninsula. It has withstood the passage of time for over 1200 years. Built in the shape of
an upturned boat, the oratory formed part of a larger monastic site
and was used as a place of prayer and reflection. With its small
entrance doorway and round-headed east-facing window, it is an
excellent example of dry stone construction. Continue on to
Milltown to visit Killaclohane Forest and the Mass Rock Loop.
There are a number of archaeological features close to the route
along the way to investigate, including Ogham stones, a dolmen
and the remains of an old church. Towards the end of the loop there
is a short spur trail to the mass rock that gives the loop its name.
Information plaques here recount the history of Fr. Thaddeus
(Tadhg) Moriarty, a local Dominican priest, who was arrested by
Cromwellian soldiers while celebrating mass at dawn on 15th
August 1653. As Catholic priests were banished from the country
at that time, he was found guilty of treason and imprisoned in Ross
Castle. He was subsequently tortured and hanged at Martyr's Hill
in Killarney. Celebrate Holy Eucharist outdoors at Mass Rock site.
(weather permitting). Continue to Adare, or Ennis for hotel check-in.
Overnight at hotel in Adare or Ennis.

Day 7 August 14, Friday: Galway – Knock Shrine
Enrollment Form - Tour Code: 8982
Archdiocese of New York
I would like to take part in the 9-day pilgrimage with
Irish breakfast at hotel. This morning, we leave for Galway to visit the Magnificent
Galway Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven and St Nicholas, and the
main streets of the city. Then, we visit the local crystal factory for a demonstration
of the craft of cutting intricate designs into colored crystal.
Independent lunch in Connemara en route to Knock.
Arrive at Knock Shrine in time for the Opening Mass and ceremony to commence the Annual National Novena in honor of Our Lady of Knock. Mass will
be celebrated by His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan in the Basilica, followed by Novena Prayers, Eucharistic Blessing of the Sick, and Procession of
the Blessesd Sacrament to the Apparition Chapel.
Dinner and overnight at hotel in Westport.

Day 8 August 15, Saturday: Feast of the Assumption: Croagh
Patrick Visitor Center & Ballintubber Abbey
Irish breakfast at hotel. This morning, drive to Croagh Patrick Visitor Centre.
Croagh Patrick, overlooking Clew Bay, is considered the holiest mountain in
Ireland. The tradition of pilgrimage to this holy mountain stretches back over
5,000 years from the Stone Age to the present day. Its religious significance dates
back to the time of the pagans, when people are thought to have gathered here to
celebrate the beginning of harvest season. Croagh Patrick is renowned for its
Patrician Pilgrimage in honor of Saint Patrick. It was on the summit of the
mountain that Saint Patrick fasted for forty days in 441 AD and the custom has
been faithfully handed down from generation to generation. The Croagh Patrick
Visitor Centre, Teach na Miasa, is situated in Murrisk on the Pilgrim's path at the
foot of the holy mountian. Independent lunch.
Late afternoon, we will visit Ballintubber Abbey. Built in 1216 for the Canon
Regulars of St. Augustine, Ballintubber Abbey is the only church in Ireland that
was founded by an Irish King and which is still in use today. It is also known as
"the Abbey that refused to die" as through its many vicissitudes, including
burning by Cromwell's army in 1653, the Abbey has remained a place of worship
despite years of continuous attacks and religious repression. Ballintubber is one of
the most impressive church buildings in Ireland today. Early evening we will
mark the conclusion of our pilgrimage with a farewell dinner together. Return
to Knock Shrine for evening 8:30 pm Concelebrated Mass in the Basilica, on the
Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Following Mass,
participate in Novena Prayers and join in the Candlelight Procession to
Apparition Chapel.
Overnight at hotel in Westport.

AIR TRANSPORTATION: Round trip economy class from New

requests for this special charter flight. Participants wishing to make
their own airline arrangements must do so on their own. Please

independent airline transportation.
TRANSFERS AND PORTERAGE: Round-trip airport transfers are
included for passengers who purchase the full air and land package.
Porterage of one piece of luggage throughout your tour at hotels is
also included.
ACCOMMODATIONS/SINGLE TRAVELERS: Price per person is
based on two persons sharing twin bedded rooms with private
facilities in hotels throughout your tour. Matrimonial (full) bedded
rooms are subject to availability and must be requested. Triple rooms
are available for family or friends traveling together. We discourage
triple room accommodations because they are normally not spacious
and there is no discount for triple occupancy. Triple rooms usually are
regular twin or matrimonial (full) bedded rooms with a rollaway bed
added. Single rooms are limited but may be requested at time of
booking for an additional charge of $595.00. While single rooms
provide privacy, they are often smaller than twin bedded rooms and
may be located away from the group. We will make every effort (if you
so desire) to match you with a same gender roommate when we
receive your application, but we do not guarantee a roommate can be
matched. If a single room must be assigned due to your roommate's
cancellation, incompatibility or for any other reason (even at the last
moment or while on tour), we must charge you the tour's single
supplement or pro-rated amount.
MEALS: Irish breakfast and dinner daily, including a gala welcome
dinner and farewell dinner in Westport. Beverages (coffee, tea,
mineral water) are not included at set menu dinners.
GRATUITIES & SERVICE CHARGES: Gratuities are not included in
your tour package. For good work, recommended (but voluntary)
tipping to your tour manager is 4.00 Euro per passenger per day; to the
driver is 2.00 Euro per passenger per day; for the local guides 1.50 Euro
per passenger per day. Tips for the tour manager and bus driver are normally given as a group at the end of the tour. Other gratuities are usually handled individually. All service charges and local taxes as imposed
by hotels are included in the program rate. Although service charges are
included, it is customary to leave 1.00 Euro per person for the waiters
after each meal and 1.00 Euro per person per day for the maid/bell boys.
TRAVELER HEALTH ADVISORY: All passengers must ensure that they
are medically and physically fit for travel and that such traveling will not endanger themselves or others as our pilgrimages entail a lot of walking, which may
involve stairs, hills, cobblestone roads and uneven pavement. Additionally, most
motor coaches are not equipped with wheelchair ramps. It is each passenger’s
responsibility to be aware of his or her limits with regard to travel and group
activities. Any person with a disability requiring special attention must advise
Peter’s Way Tours of the situation at time of enrollment. A qualified companion
must accompany any passenger requiring special assistance. Peter’s Way Tours
will make reasonable attempts to accommodate disabled passengers with special
needs, but shall not be held responsible in the event we are unable to do so.
Moreover, Peter’s Way Tours is not responsible for the denial of services by any
carriers, hotels, restaurants, or other independent suppliers.
DISCLAIMER OF RESPONSIBILITY: Peter’s Way Tours is only acting
as intermediary and agent for the suppliers identified on this, or any
accompanying documents, in selling services, or in accepting reservations or bookings for services that are not directly supplied by Peter’s
Way Tours (such as air carriage, hotel accommodations, ground
transportation, meals, tours, cruises, etc.). Peter’s Way Tours shall not be

traveler voluntarily assumes all risks involved with such travel, whether
expected or unexpected. The traveler is hereby warned of such risks and
is advised to obtain appropriate insurance coverage against them. A
signed enrollment form shall constitute consent to the above terms and
conditions and an agreement on the traveler’s part to convey the contents
of this disclaimer to your travel companions and group members.
TRAVEL INSURANCE: It is strongly recommended that all participants
purchase insurance when they travel since the tour operator is not
responsible for non-refundable payments, damaged luggage or trip interruption. Peter’s Way Tours offers an optional Passenger Travel Protection
Plan. These benefits and services help insure the well being of the passenger while traveling worldwide. The plan payments are based on total
package price, including taxes, fuel surcharges, single supplements,
deviation fees, late charges, etc. The plan payment for total package

made at the time of deposit, the passenger will be covered for preexisting conditions. However, the insurance plan can be purchased at any
time thereafter, excluding coverage for pre-existing conditions, until final
payment has been made. Plan payments will not be accepted after final
payment has been made. All plan payments are non-refundable. If you
choose to extend your stay or embark on a pre-tour program, travel
insurance can be purchased for an additional $4.00 per day. Additional
coverage needs to be requested. The insurance plan will not automatically be extended. The extended insurance plan will only cover pre-paid
arrangements made through Peter’s Way Tours. Land Only passengers
can have their air arrangements covered for an additional $20.00 per
person. The Passenger Travel Protection Plan includes coverage for the
following: trip cancellation/interruption/delay, accident/sickness
medical expense, emergency medical evacuation/repatriation, lost
baggage/personal effects, accidental death & dismemberment and 24hour Emergency Travel Assistance Services. These benefits and services
are provided by Seven Corners, Inc. Upon claim approval, reimbursement is up to 100% of the non-refundable payments for your trip.

otherwise covered by the regular policy. You can cancel up to 2 days
