About the Australian High Commission in Port Moresby
The Australian High Commission represents the Australian Government by
advancing the interests of Australia and Australians in Papua New Guinea
(PNG). Our primary national interest is in a strong bilateral relationship
underpinned by a peaceful, secure and prosperous PNG and Pacific Region. The
High Commission is also responsible for apprising Canberra about developments
in areas such as domestic politics, immigration, economics, trade and
investment, culture, defence and development cooperation, with a view to
informing Australia’s foreign policy. The Australian High Commission promotes a
positive image of Australia, enhancing people-to-people links, and delivering
consular assistance to Australians in need.
About the Department of Immigration and Border Protection at the
Australian High Commission in Port Moresby
The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) works to keep Australia
secure through border management and facilitates travellers to enter Australia on a
temporary or permanent basis. DIBP makes fair and reasonable decisions on visa
applications for people wishing to enter Australia, ensuring compliance with Australia’s
immigration laws and integrity in decision-making. The Immigration Section in Port
Moresby is responsible for processing all temporary and permanent visa applications
lodged in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
About the role
Under close direction, the Administration Officer will provide administrative assistance
to the Immigration Section at Port Moresby Post.
The key responsibilities for this position are:
 Provide general administrative office support
 Manage registration of inbound and outbound messages, mail and faxes to
ensure the timely delivery and dispatch
 Respond to basic email enquiries and delegate more complex enquiries to
appropriate team members
 Manage the records management function including file creation, filing of
documents, and database entry




Provide timely and accurate information to other officers including uploading
visa application information and cross checking data lists with documents
received from visa applicants
Provide basic IT technical and hardware support
Prepare basic reports
Perform other duties as directed
Eligibility/Other Requirements
The successful candidate is required to obtain a satisfactory police check, medical check
and maybe required to travel on occasions. A current driver’s license is required to drive
a work vehicle.
Selection Criteria
The following criteria will be used to assess an applicant’s suitability for a position.

criteria to be considered for this position.
1. Highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively
with clients and staff at all levels.
2. Demonstrated experience in administrative field, including finance and
management of accurate records
3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with minimal supervision as a member
of a small team.
4. An appreciation of the importance of workplace diversity
5. Demonstrated computer skills in a range of Microsoft software, including MS
Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook
