Hidden Gems

Cinco de Mayo
x
I’m thrilled that my best friend recently
moved to Chester County. Not only is
she now just a short drive away, but it
gives me a reason to explore the foodie
goodness in a new area of Chester
County.
In the eight years that I’ve lived in West
Chester, I haven’t had much reason to
head into Southern Chester County,
other than occasional stops for some
“Dangerously Delicious Pies” at the Octoraro Hotel in Oxford. So, since her
move to Avondale, I have had lots of
fun exploring the nooks and crannies
in her backyard. My most recent discovery is just in time for Cinco de Mayo!
Here’s how it went down.
I was heading down Baltimore Pike
from Kennett to Avondale when I realized I was dangerously low on gas, so I
pulled into a Valero gas station to fill
up. The credit card machine at the
pump was out of order, so I ran inside
to pay. Inside was the same problem:

my pockets for cash. As I pulled the
wrinkled $10 bill from my pocket, I
saw a small sign,

things in the world -- pork with pineapple.

AIMEE
OLEXY
With Mother’s Day on the horizon, we sat down with the woman behind one of the most
successful restaurants in Chester County to talk work and motherhood. Aimee Olexy,
owner of Talula’s Table, smiles through the day-to-day challenges of balancing the quaint
Kennett Square market (and most sought-after table in Philadelphia) and her biggest job
of all, being a mother.
Though most of us have to wait a year to get a moment with Aimee in all her glory, she makes lots of special time
for her biggest fan, daughter Annalee Talula Rae. Here’s what Aimee had to say about being successful at work
and as a mother.

THE SERVICE:
•
NICKY: The manager came over and
seated us. We ordered two flights of beers:
five 5-oounce beers per person, and shared
them. They were good! Loved the ales and
the IPA. We almost ordered tiny shots of
Jameson and tiny shots of Baileys to make
tiny car bombs out of the tiny stouts, but
something told us that no one sells .5 ounce
shots! Future business ideas!
BRANDON: The service was good at Sly
Fox. I give any server credit that works at a
brewery because there is an awful lot of
information to learn and remember. We had
a few different people come up to our table

make sure everything was up to par. It’s

night. She was a very easy girl to talk to and we got
along very well, although I couldn’t tell if there were

Phoenix Pale Ale. Both were pretty hoppy

At the end Smith thanked everyone
for coming & supporting them. He
talked about Fleshlight (the #1 selling men’s sex toy) & announced that
there were several being given away
as a raffle, but since this was technically a school they couldnt give them
out on the premises, so they’d be
mailed to winners. He closed by saying “you’ve proven today that your
sense of humor is way worse than
ours” since we just spent an hour listening & laughing along with them
doing nothing but talk back & forth.
I anticipated laughing & I was not
dissapointed. Several times I teared
up I was laughing so hard. I was
chuckling to myself hours later at
things that were said. As I said about
listening to SModcasts, I will say
about seeing Mr. Smith in any capacity. He is a genuinely funny guy. He
& Mosier play off each other just like
old pals, just like they are.
