When dealing with existing buildings, local code officials have to recognize and understand the local climate, such as economic development, revitalization efforts, and political influences while at the same time securing public safety related to the built environment. Purpose and Intent of the IEBC The IEBC is a collection of all codes relating to existing buildings in one volume.
