NEW ADVANCES IN PIEZOCISION: HOW TO INCORPORATE THEM IN DENTAL PRACTICE PROF. SERGE DIBART (Boston University, USA) November 7th, 2015 Vilnius, Lithuania Piezocision is a minimally invasive surgical procedure aimed at accelerating orthodontic tooth movement. It can be used for full orthodontic cases (with conventional orthodontics or clear aligners) or segmentally incorporated into multidisciplinary treatments to help achieve optimal restorative results that are pleasing esthetically and functionally. Its minimally invasive nature is not just limited to minimal post-surgical morbidity but allows, because of the strategic use of accelerated orthodontics in positioning teeth in their preferred position, minimal tooth removal during restorative rehabilitations. A well accepted procedure, it is a new tool in our surgical armamentarium that is promoting multidisciplinary collaboration for the highest benefit of the patient. Learning objective: At the end of this lecture participants will understand the biology behind piezocision and will be able to see how they can incorporate it in their daily practice. Prof. S. Dibart is the head of the Department of Periodontology at Boston University, Henri M. Goldman School of Dentistry. He is the main author of six textbooks related to periodontal plastic surgery, periodontology, osseous surgery, has published around 100 international papers and did many presentations at international meetings. Prof. S. Dibart has big experience in dental implants, periodontal plastic surgery and is inventor of the Piezocision technique.
