A Brief Feng Shui Glossary 1. Feng Shui – pronounced fung schway. The ancient Chinese art of placement whose goal is to create a stress-free environment that helps you become happier and more successful. 2. Chi Energy – the energy that flows through everything in the universe. 3. Bagua – means eight (ba) areas (gua). The Bagua Map represents the eight most important areas of your life plus the Tai Chi center symbolizing your overall health. 4. Yin & Yang – Dynamically balanced, ever-changing feminine and masculine energies that are present in everything. 5. The Five Elements – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. The interrelated Five Elements bring natural balance and energy to any space. 6. The Command Position – furniture placement that provides you with the greatest visual control over your space. 7. Intention – Focused attention on a part of your life you would like to improve; the sense of purpose that leads to action. 8. Primary Purpose – the single most important use of a room. In your office, the Primary Purpose is to get your particular type of work done. In your bedroom, it’s sleep, relaxation and intimacy. The Primary Purpose of each room drives every decision about arranging and setting up your space. 9. Tai Chi – the ancient graphic symbol representing wholeness and the Yin/Yang relationship.
